Noem to Campaign in Maryland Week Before Only Debate with Smith

Governor Kristi Noem will face Democratic gubernatorial candidate Representative Jamie Smith in her only public debate of the 2022 election on September 30 in Rapid City. She will warm up for this lone South Dakota debate by campaigning in Maryland:

The Maryland Republican Party announced this week that South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a possible presidential contender in 2024, will headline the state GOP’s annual “Red, White and Blue” dinner on Sept. 22 at the Hotel at UMD in College Park [Josh Kurtz, “Political Notes: MACo Crab Fest, A New Gig for Ben Smith, Road Tripping, and the Governor Coming to GOP’s Dinner,” Maryland Matters, 2022.08.19].

Outgoing Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who has said publicly that Team Trump’s pick to replace him, Noem-loving election denier Dan Cox, is an unstable insurrectionist, may not be joining the September 22 party:

Throughout this week’s MACo conference in Ocean City, there has been much chatter about the type of Republican who can succeed politically in Maryland, as the popular Hogan makes his valedictory appearances. Noem represents the Trumpier, more extreme element of the GOP, though her appearance and message are sure to enrapture many conservative activists [Kurtz, 2022.08.19].

Jet-setting Noem has stuck around South Dakota for the past week after jetting from the Sturgis Rally to bounce about from Massachusetts to Alabama to Nevada, with a pause to wing a passionless, inauthentic video with Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker. But how ya gonna keep ‘er down on the farm when she could be off jazzin’ around and paintin’ the towns in Maryland and elsewhere with her 2024 campaign slogans?

What better way to respond to the public announcement that her misuse of the state plane is being turned over to the AG for further investigation than to travel again to another state to campaign for another person. Are we paying for this trip too? I’m sure the minute steps off on the ground she’ll say “South Dakota!” and claim it then falls under her self appointed ambassador-ship duties.

How do they stay awake without nodding off during all those boring functions? Its hard to imagine why anyone would choose to endure such long, mundane dinners and speeches. I’d rather be in a prozac-induced coma.

Like Donald Trump, all Kristi Noem does is jet set to campaign rallies across the nation while accomplishing NOTHING in Pierre with NO actual governing. Tax Payers: you continue to pay for this circus. Not only do we pay her and her staff, we pay her to commit MOST of her time in governing this state. We are paying her to be a FULL-TIME governor and she is not even fulfilling much of a part-time schedule to her duties and responsibilities as Governor. Remember: Time and actual accomplishments ALSO EQUAL $$$.

If our state doesn’t clamp down on this flagrant abuse of power & entitlement (state airplane and the appraisal debacle), SDak will continue to regress into
a regime of (R) dominance. She & her cronies are frauds through and through.

Can’t blame the circus when SD voters elected a clown.

@ SD voters – Don’t you think it’s time to try a Democratic Governor for a term? You know. Maybe you’ve been wearing cowboy boots since high school but now that you’re a senior they’re pinching your toes and it’s harder to walk these days. Maybe a looser more comfortable Governor is at least worth a try? They’re your feet. You’re the only one who knows if you’re comfortable or just being pinched by the same old thing. One term. That’s all we ask.

Precisely, cibvet. Could not have written it better myself.

What is the amount of the Honorarium, fee, or campaign contribution, Governor Noem will receive from the Maryland Republicans for carrying the water at this event.

  9. grudznick 2022-08-23 21:17

A great rhetorical question, Mr. Blundt. grudznick’s grandaughter’s friend, a fine young gentleman but a little soft on these things because of his profession, guesses $2,500,000. I guess $0.

    What is Mr. Blundt’s guess?

I want to know the travel arrangements for yet another out-of-state campaign trip in her quixotic run for higher office. State plane, commercial air, or the corporate jet of some corporation hoping to curry favor.

Grudznick…the latest issue of Mother Jones Magazine, leftist in its’ orientation and perhaps not on your reading list, has an entire last issue on the burgeoning and profitable industry of speaking at, organizing and publicizing Republican and far right wing gatherings, campaign events, conferences and conventions. The magazine reports a “going rate” of $5,000 to $20,000, depending on the venue for speakers and personalities, plus complimentary kiosks and tables where celebrity rightists can sell books, t-shirts and paraphenalia. Mrs. Noem is briefly mentioned in the article.

  12. Arlo Blundt 2022-08-24 20:56

Nick–my bet is a combination depending on the location of the venue, whether the hosts are paying transportation expenses, and whether the hosts can provide a “sponsor” to assist with a corporate jet. I assume (but have no way of knowing)that the well moneyed Noem Campaign fund is tasked with paying Hotel Rooms and other incidental expenses. Who pays for the Governor’s entourage of security and aides is beyond all knowing. Perhaps, we should look in the mirror.

I knew Mother Jones. Mother Jones was a friend of mine. Mr. Blundt, you’re no Mother Jones.

I still guess $0. What is your guess?

When Noem used State resources to travel to gatherings as a speaker, it is worth inquiring whether a financial honorarium and allowance for expenses was providfed by the host for her participation. And if so, did Noem forward these funds to the State of South Dakota since she traveled on the State’s dime while collecting her salary and was claiming to to have attended these events on behalf of South Dakota as a State Goodwill Ambassador. If she pocketed these funds instead of turning them over to the State, perhaps that would raise a reasonable basis for the statutory referral to the AG’s office for an investigation by DCI.

They are all part of the Republican gang, that’s why an Independent special prosecutor is in order.
