Sioux Falls residents get to vote on five municipal ballot questions this fine Primary Day, all of them amendments to the City Charter requested by the City Council.
Among these measures is Amendment C, which would allow a board of ethics to waive a two-year sit-out period for former city council members who want to come work for the city. According to KELO-TV, “Officials say it’ll help the city hire qualified candidates sooner.”
Are you kidding me, Sioux Falls? Biggest city in the state, most vibrant and diverse local economy, and making city council members sit out for two years before getting a job from their former colleagues is hampering your ability to hire talent?
Baloney. The two-year jam in the revolving door prevents corruption. You have a couple hundred thousand other people to choose from for city jobs before you recycle a council member. Sioux Falls voters, keep your city payroll clean—vote NO on Amendment C.
