South Dakota Politicians Remember, Respect John McCain

South Dakota’s Congressional delegation respectfully notes the passing of Senator John McCain of Arizona:

From Senator John Thune, a photo with McCain and his wife Cindy:

From Senator M. Michael Rounds, condolences:

From Congresswoman Kristi Noem, a note on humble public service:

Our candidates pay their respects to the Arizona Senator and Vietnam War veteran as well. Tim Bjorkman mentions Senator McCain’s efforts to reform campaign finance and stop America from committing the same torture he experienced at the hands of his captors in Hanoi fifty years ago:

State Senator Billie Sutton notes Senator McCain’s commitment to integrity over party:

Dusty Johnson has not tweeted since last night’s sad news, but on Friday, after the announcement that Senator McCain’s was booting his meds, our Republican candidate for U.S. House retweeted the famous exchange in 2008 when McCain took the microphone away from a racist Minnesota woman who claimed she couldn’t trust Barack Obama because “he’s an Arab.”:

“He’s a decent family man, citizen, that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues,” said Senator John McCain on October 10, 2008, less than a month before the general election, defending the character of the fellow Senator, fellow American, and fellow man with whom he was competing to become President of the United States. We may say the same of John McCain, as we may say of all decent, honest participants in the Great American Experiment.

McCain asked for eulogies from dumbass dubya and Obama the Great. Noticeably absent was the Russian plant in the Kremlin Annex.

    from WAPO-
    Politics
Trump rejected plans for a White House statement praising McCain

article is behind paywall. Drumpf stays classy all the way…NOT!

Yet, not one of the repubs has had the guts to stand up to the idiot in our White House.
Their comments border on those of “Thoughts and Prayers” offered to shooting victims……. that is Hollow.

I think John McCain would have made a great President, but 2008 just wasn’t his year. Condolences.

A very memorable occasion of John M,Cain’s service to the American ideals and principles to me was his final strategic vote on Republican senate vote with his thumbs down vote on repeal of Obama’s national Health Care Act! Here stood a man of ideals of Country over Party!

Pretty hollow sentiments from the SD delegation considering not one of them has the courage to emulate Sen McCain on any issue. Senator McCain was a leader and we have a trio of followers. But the words were nice…

John McCain also proposed building 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030 during his 2008 campaign, with an ultimate goal of 100 new nuclear reactors. At the time gas was over $4 per gallon and climate change was an important part of that election cycle.

There is some talk in DC about renaming the Russell office building for McCain. I guess Russell was a racist scuzzball. I believe the suggestion came from Russpublicans.

I also read that Tangerine Wankmaggot is barred from the funeral.

McCain’s mother is still alive, 107, I believe.

Debbo, my Minnesota friend, the proposal came immediately from Charles Schumer and Senator Flake said he would be prowd to be the first wingnut co-signer.

Then Kelli Ward, a superb wingnut if ever one existed started whining about McCain’s announcement of stopping his treatment was timed to hurt her campaign for Senate. This party exudes something, but it don’t smell like class.

On KELO newscast Sunday night, Thune reacted to McCain’s passing by saying that McCain once told him that “if I (McCain) looked as good as you (Thune), I would have been elected President.” That tells you all you need to know about John Thune that he would make it about himself at a time like this. I almost puked. Is it any wonder Thune loves Trump so much?

The American flag flies at full staff above the White House this morning. Our president uses the flag as a political club to attack football players for allegedly showing disrespect for veterans while at the same time using the flag as a club to show disrespect toward a veteran.

Mr. Sol, I think I could agree if not for his hard tac toward the Tea Party and the Sara Palin ascension. That race changed the man.

John McCain also sends the message that the current republican party is a clear and present danger to our democracy. No matter what trump does, the republican party is in lockstep behind him. Even in the shattered economy of South Dakota ag producers, there is little to see that shows they even give a damn about this country and instead follow the lead of a proven traitor. That says a lot. McCain will be missed that is for sure, he stood up to evil.

I wish more politicians in Washington, on BOTH sides of the aisle were more like Senator McCain. Whether you agreed with his political views, you could respect them, because he was a good man who respected others, even if they didn’t always agree with him.

Unfortunately, leaders in both major parties today are guilty of being too partisan, of demonizing the other side, and not looking to find solutions on common ground. I cling to the notion, however, that most people who are involved in the Republican and Democratic parties at the ground level, are far more similar to John McCain than to their party leaders, and that we can push for our leaders to remember that it shouldn’t be about who’s in charge, and who’s raising the most money for re-election campaigns, but it’s about doing what is right for our country.

What more does it say about John McCain’s character than the fact that he wanted the only two men who beat him in a Presidential election to give his eulogy?

Once again you can trash me as you seem fit but I never liked McCain. I’ll give him the hero label for his service but he was also behind blocking the search to find out about the other POWs we left behind. By now they are are probably dead and maybe now the whole story will come out. Very sad legacy really and all the accolades being cast now will not cover up the truth. Look how he treats this sister of a POW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=264&v=-CazKanlYDg

The fact is Vietnam demanded reparations but due to an election and a change in leadership the Congress, administration and the media stopped discussions and the reparations were never paid leaving more than 700 American service members alive and behind in Vietnam. We may never learn what happened to our brothers but McCain was instrumental in classifying the information that was available and in blocking our ability to ever find out.

McCain’s main job was promoting the Military industry – supporting war at all costs after having been in one. That is the disturbing side of him, that and the Keating scandal in the 80s. The good side was standing up to a racist supporter during the 2008 Campaign and voting against the Obamacare Repeal.

In late summer of 1969, my infantry company trailed two American turncoats the Americal Division labled, Salt and Pepper. Our orders were to kill them both and bring back whatever we could bring back. We think we may have killed them outside of a small village near Tam Ky. We saw them both clearly before calling in an airstrike, the White guy carried a radio and the Black guy was carrying an M-60. They were traveling with a platoon sized element of a much larger force that was on their flank. When we got to the target area, there were clearly blood trails, but no signs of either of them or the rest of the blood donors. We never did hear from them again though, so there is that.

I am sure there are missing American bodies there as there were some chaotic close battles and there were prisoners taken, but to say there still are prisoners of war there is a right wing lie just like saying Saddam had Michael Scott Speicher as a prisoner of war for all those years and that gave us another right to invade. President Obama’s had just became president when he was identified by the Marines, buried by Bedouins where he had been shot down and killed 18 years before. Senator McCain was wrong on Iraq, but correct on Vietnam, even when he publicly said he “hated them and always would”, Senator McCain did what he thought was right for his country.

Then McCain has been successful in all but Iran and North Korea. You do know that we have military bases in 800 locations around the world, everywhere. Good deal on that Iran and North Korea thingy as they would make us bleed like we do not want to know. Peace is always the bestest route possible. Keep in mind that the report was written 5 years ago.

Kremlin Annex re lowered the flag to half mast after overwhelming calls of shame on Drumpf.

  20. Jenny 2018-08-27 20:04

Wow jerry, really surprised withyou saying Vietnam was not a mistake. McCain also voted for the biggest tax cut in history last year. Are you okay?

  21. Debbo 2018-08-27 22:01

Mike, the half-masting was very brief, then right back up, per Tangerine Wankmaggot’s shameful order. Petulant tantrum.

  22. mike from iowa 2018-08-28 07:54

Sorry I mist it, Debbo. I’ll make it up to you by sending you some rain in the mail. My rain barrel overfloweth with wet yesterday and early this morning. Some pea sized hail, too still yet.

From the Onion “WASHINGTON—Controversy surrounding whether the commander in chief was properly honoring recently deceased Senator John McCain increased Tuesday after reports indicated that the White House flag was now being moved up or down on its staff minute to minute to indicate President Donald Trump’s current mood. “It’s no secret that the president and the late senator had a contentious relationship, and President Trump wants the flag’s position to be perfectly calibrated to his current sentiments about Mr. McCain so the nation knows exactly how he feels,” said White House deputy chief of staff of operations Daniel Walsh as facilities employees raced to raise the flag precisely 26 inches above half-staff to reflect a surge of anger Trump had just experienced toward McCain receiving so much public adulation.” Satire is so accurate sometimes
