Noem Ignores Local Press Through First Month of Second Term

Even Fox News is willing to reprint the AP report noting that Governor Kristi Noem continues to stonewall her local press corps:

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has yet to make herself available to the Capitol press during the first three weeks of the state’s legislative session, breaking with a decades-old ritual of South Dakota governors holding a weekly news conference to publicly discuss their policy initiatives and take questions from reporters.

The Republican governor, who is a potential 2024 White House contender, has granted numerous TV interviews to national outlets. But in her home state Capitol, where she is proposing a historic tax repeal, new rules for foreign entities purchasing farmland and a batch of bills aimed at aiding new parents, she has not personally taken questions from reporters [Stephen Groves, “South Dakota Gov. Noem Breaks Longstanding Tradition, Foregoes Press Conferences,” AP via Fox News, 2023.01.27].

Yeah, the Governor’s too busy seeking primary votes on Breitbart to stick around Pierre and talk to South Dakota reporters. Besides, why would the Governor waste any precious time courting local voters who already gave her a pass in November 2022 to do whatever she wants for four more years?

Wow, who could have seen that coming? ;-)

Truth is like kryptonite to magats so she and other slime avoid it as much as possible. No big mystery here.

I wonder if all of the useful idiots that voted for the Dope Queen of Delusion
will ever figure out that she used them for toilet paper.
Happy little turds aren’t they ?

Kristi Noem wants to be President so she could seek higher office. Mere grubby South Dakotans are no longer important or worthy of fixing her hair for a — blech! — local press conference. They’ve already given her all she wants from THOSE PEOPLE.

Apparently, the little princess hasn’t found out that the national press and the op-research/communications teams of real presidential campaigns won’t be so gentle and understanding as the poorly paid reporters (a soon to be extinct class) of South Dakota.

Ah, the trials and tribulations of the oversized fish in a tiny pond. Pity.

Shades of Norma Desmond … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMTT0LW0M_Y

96 Tears, yep Norma Desmond pretty much sums it all up for this pathetic show in South Dakota. “I’m ready for my close-up.”

DeSantis does the same, its a virus. When they run for the Presidency or rather the Vice Presidency, they will need shots. It’s unavoidable.

  7. Arlo Blundt 2023-01-30 12:02

The South Dakota Pess Corps will ask questions on topics that make her feel “sad”. She has bigger fish to fry…Onward and Upward.

Yeah a despicable human if you can call her that. Use/abuse its the MAGA way.
Why are so many duped into the ‘vote red’ no matter what ? Totally deceived & yet they keep falling for it.
    She came up w/ eliminating the groc food tax to further her political aspirations, you can bet on that;
that will be her next ‘freedom’ cry ; maybe by then she’ll give the state press corps a morsel of her majestic words. Give me a break.

Was there anything different from the last 4 years of Not playing Governor, but Being Dictator? Same old Same old. Don’t even miss her until she shows back up to strip away more SD Rights and Freedoms…..

  10. Donald Pay 2023-01-30 14:04

Denise Williams has the right attitude. You ought to hope she spends every second outside the state, because she turns everything into a crisis/disaster. The less time in SD, the less damage she can do.

Meanwhile, I noticed the Legislature wants to study nuclear power in South Dakota. What a fricken waste of time and money!

You know South Dakota is the Saudi Arabia of wind, and not too far from that for solar. Spend a little time encouraging the real source of power for the future. It’s not nukes. South Dakota had a nuclear power plant that shook so hard NSP had to shut it down before it blew itself apart. Not one killowatt of power was put on the grid. Giant waste of money. Maybe they should study what happened to the workers who had to decommisison the Pathfinder Plant. Drag NSP in to disclose how many workers got cancer and died because of that plant.

Dusty’s dumb Mount Rushmore law tells me he is gearing up to slide into the soon to be vacated Gov seat, I think Noem’s deal w establishment is be gone in 2 years and give us our state back. Expect no fuss in Pierre as the deal has likely already been struck.

  13. larry kurtz 2023-01-30 15:59

Mrs. Noem goes to the alt-right media outlets because they throw her softballs and show her in the best light to white donors. A disaster where she could control the narrative is likely the only way she’ll ever hold a press conference.

  14. P. Aitch 2023-01-30 17:43

What, pray tell, happened to the nuclear studies Professor at SDSU who championed the way of fission on these pages, hence?

  15. grudznick 2023-01-30 18:05

Young Mr. Groves is a known Noem-hater, as his biased “reporting” has often shown. This is known, and Ms. Noem knows. You knew no new news would come of this.

  16. larry kurtz 2023-01-30 18:42

Reporter or not Mrs. Noem is worthy of all the hate anyone can send her way and the louder she protests the more cash she hoes into her carpetbag.

  17. Mark B 2023-01-31 07:52

2 more years. Auditions for 24 are coming to a clise soon.

If she doesn’t find a ride back to Washington in 2024 she is done. Think she is useless to SD now? If she misses the 24 bus, her tantrums will break every dish in the Gov mansion and she will either double down on her Theocratic delusions for SD or run off w Mr Lewendowski.

Noem is a stripper. A freedom stripper!

    So is R party.

After they get done Stripping district 30 of their Senator (bad manners and weird speech is not a crime) and Stripping the Senator of her rights to
o be an Interesting legislator, where will they stop?

This is not high school. Cliques should not rule.

Noems 8 years as GovernorRuningForSomethingElse is not much.

Let’s make sure we DO something substantial.

Remember, you are a Governor. Now, today, without any election needed. You are also a 1 person legislature, what you spend money on, what you create today, creates a butterfly effect that benefits people decades from now! You build every day. Don’t be distracted by the NoGovernor or the NoLegislature! You do more and you do it daily for all humanity !

  19. jakc 2023-01-31 13:00

It is not just SD, but a concerted effort by Republicans across the nation. If you can win elections while stonewwalling the press than why answer questions? It is part of the same larger strategy that leads SD R leaders to punish SD freedom caucus senators since the R leadership doesn’t need their vote. R leadership counts on the Freedom Caucus and Libertarians being unable to propose a strategic alliance with D’s

ABC- I still have your back and want to collaborate on your solutions. I am down for whatever in Rapid City. How about you run to replace JFM? I will help your campaign in any way.
