Real Nurse Says Noem Could Be Prosecuted for Lying About Working as a Nurse

Remember how Kristi Noem went to CPAC in Texas last year and claimed to have worked as a home health nurse? We knew that couldn’t be true, since Noem didn’t get a degree until 2012, since that degree was in political science and not nursing, and since the only things she’s been nursing since then are her celebrity and her bad case of Coreyitis.

South Dakota Standard gets the Noem campaign to admit that Noem was not really a nurse, although the campaign still pretends that words from the Governor’s mouth have no accountable meaning:

Ian Fury, Noem’s campaign spokesman, said the governor did not work as a professional nurse.

“She helped care for a disabled older lady who was a family friend with some home health functions,” Fury told The South Dakota Standard. “She’s not claiming to be a certified nurse or anything like that” [Diane Smith, “Longtime South Dakota Nurse: Why Does Gov. Noem Claim to Have Worked as a Home Health Nurse?South Dakota Standard, 2022.09.21].

It’s tough to say “I was a nurse!” without claiming “I was certified to be a nurse!” Licensed nurse Diane Smith to say that this word game, which Noem actually tweeted in 2019, is a prosecutable offense:

I then reviewed her education biography, researched the South Dakota Board of Nursing online nurse license verification registry under both Noem and her maiden name Arnold, and was unable to confirm that a nursing license for her had been issued for as an RN, LPN or CNA. I was unable to find any mention of her having attended a nursing program, practical or registered.

Having been a licensed nurse in South Dakota since 1982, it is my responsibility to know what the regulations are related to my scope of practice and to protect the public as most nurses do. I reviewed the Administrative Rules of South Dakota (ARSD), and the laws set forth by the Legislature and found that Gov. Noem’s claim to have practiced as a home health nurse as defined by ARSD is in fact considered a violation of these rules as a menace to public health, which is a prosecutable offense [Smith, 2022.09.21].

The relevant statutes appear to be SDCL 36-9-68 (for RNs, LPNs, CRNAs, and CNSs) and 36-9A-35 (for CNPs and CNMs), which say you can’t practice nursing without a license or “use in connection with the person’s name a sign, card, device, or other designation tending to imply that the person is a registered nurse” or other licensed caregiver. In her 2019 tweet and her 2021 CPAC speech, Noem seems to have used a designation—”home health nurse” that (Ian’s word games be darned) tends to imply that Noem had some sort of certification to nurse.

Noem’s legal escape here may be verb tense. She said she was a nurse. She didn’t represent that she holds a license now to provide health care. The nursing laws and rules all seem geared toward preventing some yokel off the street from walking into a clinic or nursing home and giving shots and drawing blood. As long as Noem isn’t playing nurse now, we probably can’t drag her in front of a tribunal.

But Noem might want to rein in her spokesboy’s language about “home health functions.” ARSD 20:48:04.01 specifies which nursing tasks a licensed nurse may delegate to an unlicensed individual like Noem and which tasks must be performed by a licensed professional. If Noem was performing certain home health functions, she had to be under the supervision of a licensed professional.

SDCL 36-9-28 does allow a variety of practices by unlicensed individuals. The most relevant appear to be item #3—”Gratuitous care of friends or members of the family”—and item #4—”Domestic administration of family remedies, or care of the sick by domestic servants, housekeepers, companions, or household aides of any type, whether employed regularly or because of an emergency or illness, but who may not in any way assume to practice nursing as defined in this chapter.” #3 may not apply neatly, because Noem lumped her nursing in with other paid work, implying that he nursing was not gratuitous. #4 still restricts Noem from “assuming to practice nursing as defined in this chapter,” which could be read to tie her back to that prohibition on implying that she is a registered nurse.

Whether or not Noem’s exaggeration can trigger legal punishment, it’s clear Noem has violated another ethical standard. She claimed to have worked as a nurse, yet she is not and never has been a nurse.

What is a lie? It’s an action or a word (or even silence) that accompanies the intent to deceive. Often this deliberate deception is practiced in order to gain power over another.
The truth always derives from one source,
Souls with freewill can manipulate that truth into half-truths which become lies*
Lying is not something we do only to each other, we also lie to ourselves. Sometimes we practice self-deception through delusions about our own importance.

The mother of my daughters, the Odd Goddess of Basin and Our Lady of the Arroyo are all registered nurses, so are neighbors and friends Tim, Micki, Lisa, Matthew, Leslie, Maria, Joan, Lori and Sarah. Each one loathes Trumpism as does every other medical professional they know who will never, ever vote for a Republican again.

  6. DaveFN 2022-09-26 08:49

    1. “I worked as though I was a carpet cleaning telemarketer.” Probably true.
    2. “I worked as though I was a home health care nurse.” Probably true.
    3. “I worked as though I was a grocer store checker.” Probably true.
    4. “I worked as though I was a restaurant cook.” Probably true.
    5. “I worked as though I was a vacuum salesman.” Probably true.

    6. “I worked as though I was a real governor.” False.

  7. Bill Stocker 2022-09-26 09:53

5 jobs I’ve had that no one knows about:
    1. Thermo nuclear physicist
    2. Harvard law professor
    3. Chemical engineer
    4. NFL Quarterback
    5. Professional golfer
You know why no one knows I had these jobs, because I never had them, just like Kristi. Haaahaaahaa corrupt, lying hypocrite.

  8. Donald Pay 2022-09-26 10:13

Yeah, I’m willing to give her a pass on this, even though I think she’s a liar about almost everything. She should know that “Nurse” is a job title for a licensed professional, while “health care aide,” better describes what she did. But she ought to correct it on her resume.

  9. Arlo Blundt 2022-09-26 13:28

think everyone knows the difference between a home health nurse and a home health aide.

  10. P. Aitch 2022-09-26 14:02

Anyone else here ever tried to sell door to door vacuums. You know. Kirby, Rainbow, Electrolux, Nutone, Filter Queen? First you misrepresent yourself as a carpet cleaning company. Then when you get into a dupe’s home you throw a big bag of dirt on their couch and carpet. Then you make a three-to-five-hour sales pitch never using a negative word. Then you start talking financing for a $2100.00 vacuum cleaner that you bought for $500.00 from your boss who bought it for $250.00 from his boss. It’s a pyramid paradigm.
I was really good at it. Made enough to start my own business selling legitimate brands like Hoover, Eureka, Panasonic, Oreck, Miele etc. The average number of sales for door-to-door vacuum salespeople is ONE. That’s because most sell one to their mother or grandmother and are forever a pariah at Thanksgiving dinner.
The Moral of the Story? Don’t believe that a company will clean your carpet for $50.00 a room.

Maybe you can be a nurse just by thinking you’re a nurse. Ala the Donald.

  15. larry kurtz 2022-09-26 17:25

Remember how many times John Thune flip-flopped on his support for Herr Trump? I do.

Starting in New York Donald Trump targeted the Mohawk and Oneida Nations for annihilation then his Tulsa trip and his campaign rally in occupied South Dakota spread disease throughout Native America. Trump even killed the White House Tribal Nations Summit because he loathes Indigenous Americans and he committed crimes against humanity throughout Indian Country not only by slow-walking resources to reservations during a pandemic but by undercounting Indigenous populations during the 2020 Census. Trump’s erasure of protections for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments was cruel retribution targeting Indigenous peoples. Adjusted for age and population Trump killed many more American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIAN) per capita than he did whites.

John Thune and Kristi Noem aided and abetted the attempted erasure of Native America.

If Republicans failed at marketing sex appeal with Sarah Palin they have more than made up for it with South Dakota’s governor so if you wanna sell a heartless christofascist autocracy with BDE get a pretty girl in blue jeans and f#k me pumps to recite the narrative.

  17. Bonnie B Fairbank 2022-09-26 18:29

Well then, I guess I too worked as a “home health nurse.” When my parents-in-law lived with me, I administered their medications, served as their podiatrist (cut them toenails, shave them calluses and corns), gave enemas, changed wound dressings, bathed them, helped them dress and helped them change their diapers, maintained their hearing aids and false teeth, drove them up to Rapid for health care I couldn’t do, and dozens of other chores; cooking, cleaning, laundry….

I have a life-sized picture of Kristi giving enemas to her FIL, DON’T ALL OF YOU?

And she got away with this bullsh*t at CPAC last year? What a miserable, lying c*nt.

  18. Mark Anderson 2022-09-26 19:06

LCJ, I’ve got a Brandon Won bumper sticker for you. Best of times, got one on my vehicle.
Folks, you’ve got to let Kristi exaggerate. She’s a farmer wanna be rancher who still nurses her children after all. Ian will tell you, he’s educated from Hilldale the wonder college for critical right turns.

  19. leslie 2022-09-26 23:32

oh you mean the “very nice people—I live you, go home” meaning the deplorable Jan 6 rioters, the congressmen, women, senators who aided, abetted, enabled and funded the attempt at their ongoing take down of our national democracy. Those deplorables that HRC called out? You afraid of a strong woman calling Trump out for what he was, together with his rally goers, especially those who sought his permission to use violence in politics and free exercise of democracy?

JFC get your head out! Trump LOST!! Stupid post LCJ!. Clean up the feces they left in our Capitol, did you? Wow. Defending deplorables, eh?

“she lost the election. And then she got drunk. Good times.” Do you know what dry drunk syndrom is? Trump has exhibited a lifetime of a variety of such bshaviorable toxicity. “Good times” for us, eh? What’s the Covid death count anyway? How about the count in Ukrain? Or the danger from N. Korea and Iran? You wouldn’t know intelligence if it bit you in the a**.

She won the popular vote. Putin was afraid of her too, like you, and in all likelihood queered the election. Little thing called the Mueller Report documented a lot of it. The sheer number if Trump associates involved with the Russia is only ignorable under mass (FOX etc) disinformation. Mitch helped at the last hour. Kristi has been in bed w/ Trump ever since. Think that’s a good thing, do you?

    Stupid fu*king Republicans, like you.

  20. LCJ 2022-09-27 07:47

Les-lie, I did not say Trump beat Brandon. I said he beat Clinton. I am not a Republican by the way, I am a registered independent .
CAH can verify this easily. Good times. You dems sure get violent over anything without knowing anything.

  21. larry kurtz 2022-09-27 07:50

It’s becoming clearer all the time the outcome of the 2016 presidential election was engineered by the Obama White House, the Clinton campaign and the FBI to throw the election and destroy the GOP by destroying Trump. Hillary’s campaign was phoned in at best so they gave Trump and the GOP all the rope they’re using right now to hang themselves.

  22. leslie 2022-09-27 10:40

you and grdz. too stupid to debate policy. whenever a liberal or a dem calls you Republicans on your sheit, your only response is “out-of-stater, hater, violent”. Scared of BLM. They vote. Got yer AR-15 and yer wife scared in yer own mansion? We are outraged but not violent! You idiots engineered the hang-mans noose on Jan 6! Your own VP. Michigan’s Governor! Ginny Thomas.

Yer wires are crossed man. Show me the lie. (What, are you in middle school?) Debate me in a civil forum. Your ideas can’t stand scrutiny and morality.

oh… “I did not say Trump beat Brandon. I said he beat Clinton. I am not a Republican”.

Deflect much? Trump lost. (You brought up Biden, I didn’t. You can’t read. Trump held on, to the big GOP lie. Sounds like you. HRC merely lost the electoral college. But she honored the institution and walked away. The EC like SCOTUS will change. We must change them both. With the popular vote. The right to vote. Women have rights you took. Your independence is just an excuse. Defending deplorables is what Republicans do to gain power.

BTW, when were you a Republican? Do you suck up Rupert Murdoch’s billionaires propaganda?

  23. LCJ 2022-09-27 16:55

I never was a Republican. I was a Dem until I bought my own business. I do not own a mansion. my wife is a retired teacher who left the union when she figured out they are worthless. Just so you know Trump’s campaign was to win the Electoral College not the general election.
Deflect much? You are obviously not civil enough or sober enough for a constructive conversation by looking at your poor grammar, spelling and sentence structure. And you lie almost every time you post. Les-lie

  25. mike from iowa 2022-09-27 17:47

SS is great when it is then only game in town for millions of us. Magats are trying to dispose of it and have for many years.

  26. JO 2022-09-27 18:21

As a graduate of the SDSU College of Nursing in 1977, I believe Noem should be prosecuted to the max although chances are slim with this ignorant GOP dominated state. Over 200 enrolled in the SDSU College of Nursing, 60 of the nursing students passed the SD State Board of Nursing exam. I doubt Noem could have passed Chemistry 1.

  27. M 2022-09-27 20:15

Noem could not have mistaken home health nurse for home health aide because they are called home health caregivers. She has written and stated nurse several times. Big difference between nurse and caregiver in education, responsibilities AND pay. Nothing on her resume prepared her for the governorship, not even her honorary degree. Was she ever vetted?

Ohhhhhh, she didn’t include high speed racer driver or alcohol tester on her resume.

  28. P. Aitch 2022-09-27 20:37

If your Governor is a nurse then I’m a teacher since I used flash cards to help my daughter learn her addition and subtraction.

  29. LCJ 2022-09-27 21:01

Yes, both of you are right .You are a teacher and thanks so much for being your child’s first teacher as Kristi should be recognized as her children’s first nurse.

  30. O 2022-09-27 21:24

    . . . and I’m a surgeon because I coaxed a splinter out of my child’s toe?

  31. leslie 2022-09-27 22:47

LCJ i remember you from a detestable post here before and it was not pleasant as i recall. Then you used the “-lie” slur too, so that is three times. No proof.

“Cackles” is the “civil” you referring to our two term 1st lady, Governor’s wife multiple terms, Senator, and Democratic Presidential Candidate, an Ivy League lawyer and health care guru at the time. She also took down, as a brand new lawyer, was it Water Gate, I can’t even remember? I worked hard for her campaign, knowing while she wouldn’t win SD independents and Republicans, she had her thumb on the vast right wing conspiracy and Putin.

The mocking “Cackles” conservative website is financially backed by Paul Singer, an American billionaire hedge fund manager and conservative activist.

You think you will not get strong push back here when you say right wing sheit like that?

don’t you think Putin’s hack of the election could have skewed the popular vote so Trump could win the EC?
