Not Enough Whiskey in Watertown to Make Schoenbeck Call Special Session for Transgender Issues

Lee Strubinger’s original headline on Senate President Pro-Tem Lee Schoenbeck’s opposition holding a Special Session on transgender sports read, “Senate Leader Opposed to Transgender Sports Bill Special Session Looking to Problem Solve the Issue.” His subsequent headline more aptly captures the unvarnished feelings of Watertown’s Senator: “Senate Leader Slams Noem’s Special Session Plan“… although Version #2 of the report doesn’t capture the best Schoenbeckism of the year given in Version #1:

“I couldn’t get drunk enough to think about how you would have a special session on transgender,” Schoenbeck says. “That would be the dumbest special session we ever had in South Dakota” [Lee Strubinger, “Senate Leader Opposed to Transgender Sports Bill Special Session Looking to Problem Solve the Issue,” SDPB, 2021.04.01].

The headline itself seems to dissolve into the drunken stupor that still wouldn’t get Schoenbeck to support a Special Session for transgender bullying. Strubinger says Schoenbeck made that comment last week on TV—which tells me we need Lee Schoenbeck on more TV—and now is “looking to be a problem solver on the issue.” Let’s all buy Schoenbeck a drink and remind him there is no problem to solve in school sports.

Just goes to show you that even Schoenbeck can, if he tries, act like a human being on rare occasions.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Mission Statement : The mission of HHS, is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health and social services. HHS, dept. leaders are among the most dedicated to ensuring the guidance and management necessary to support the health and well-being of the nation. For instance Dr. Racheal L. Levine M.D., whom is well versed in equality. Dr. Levine is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and Academy for Eating Disorders. an accomplished speaker and author of numerous publications including Adolescent Medicine, Eating Disorders and LGBTQ medicine. If this issue of Scapegoating the Adolescent Transgender ever hit her desk, I wonder what the response would be ? It seems to me, that the Governor is taking quite the risk for HHS, funding for the state. Besides that the Governor, has an obvious Eating Disorder, of Obsessive Compulsive, such is evidenced by her long-standing obsession, of claiming she’s taken issue of Transgenders exercising there rights to play sports. Society has changed, whether she likes it or not. Though her approach and taking personal issue with the Transgender, puts SD at risk, for HHS funding. Her management of Risk, is some what like the Associate Attorney for the Monument, taking Risks, that eventually, turn around and bit ya. It’s obvious, the current political climate of SD including the state legislature, is of Discrimination, and Retaliation. They put all of us at Risk. Trying to get the Old Guard of SD to change when the state is already behind the Maturity of the HHS, is a waste of time. Some of us want action, not just dialogue of complaining. I encourage you to write to HHS, and confront this Harrassment issue. Dr. Rachel Levine, I am sure would have a much different point of view regarding Transgender Sports.

Great quote. It might have been even better if he had been quoted saying this at the beginning of January concerning the regular session.

He must have been in consulation with the following post: Thune to South Dakota: GET YOUR SHOTS!!!

  6. leslie 2021-04-02 13:46

Right up there w/ Thune’s macho “going down like a shot dog”. Neanderthal Scotts defending their shame as ‘honor’ in this frickin’ state. jfc

    @thehill
McConnell: Biden is “first-rate person” leading “left-wing administration”

Last month Mitch said Trump was directly responsible for inciting the insurrection 1.06.21. Then he said he’d vote for Trump in 04. This is Thune’s “hot is cold, black is white mentor. Lucky us.

well…some republican leaders are uncomfortable about following Governor Noem over the cliff….what is at risk are a few counties along the eastern tier…its not worth losing them for a turn riding Kristi’s hobby horse

Schoenbeck may be sending the LGBT lobby a signal on how to prepare for a Special Session: check in the night before, invite Lee and the rest out for drinks, and keep buying until everyone is in the floor. Nothing will pass the next day; the only vote will be to adjourn.

  10. Donald Pay 2021-04-02 17:57

My prediction is Schoenbeck and crew will cave.

Governor Noem will be calling a special session not to drink alcohol, but to drink the Kool Aid.

  12. Curt 2021-04-02 22:07

Yes, there will be Kool-Aid, but no one will be drunker than our Governess.
Do you remember the last time this issue was a problem in SD.? Neither does anyone else because it has never been a problem. I do not believe an overly dramatized publicity stunt is sufficient reason for a Special Session.

well…if Major League baseball will move the All Star game out of Atlanta, the NCAA won’t think twice about taking a couple regional tournaments out of Sioux Falls. There’s plenty of non controversial places to play.

The transgendered caucuses can blame the demon weed when the special sessions are called and those insaner than most drop down a law bill about transgendering in sports.

Just jumping in to fix grudznick’s post’ autocorrect/spelling error.

Grdz merely sees the word whiskey, and goes after “libbies’ ” drug of choice. Anything involving discussion of sexuality on this blog brings out his predictable misogyny. And here his obvious obsession w/transgender equality. A sick, sick troll who takes up way too much bandwidth. Do no coddle.
