Trump Wins 70%+ in 33 South Dakota Counties, Improves Vote Percentage in 51

Minnehaha County is still counting ballots, but which of the remaining 65 counties in South Dakota are the most passionately Trumpistani, and which counties showed their intelligence and decency by rejecting four more years of destructive selfishness in the White House?

Two counties, Harding and Haakon, gave Donald Trump more than 90% of their votes. Eight more counties gave Trump more than 80%: Douglas, Campbell, Perkins, Jones, Potter, Faulk, McPherson, and Tripp. 23 counties gave Trump between 70% and 80% of their vote. That’s 33 counties—exactly half of the counties in South Dakota, giving Trump more than 70% of the vote.

That harshest half of our counties constitute only 17.9% of South Dakota’s population. Only two of those Trumpmaniac counties, Butte (77.7% Trump) and Meade (72.2% Trump), have more than 10,000 people. 22 of those Trump-worshipping counties are in the bottom half of South Dakota counties by population.

Only six counties representing a meager 5.5% of South Dakota’s population showed the good sense to reject Donald Trump:

County %Trump %Biden
Oglala Lakota 9.30% 88.39%
Todd 20.95% 77.31%
Buffalo 33.33% 64.10%
Dewey 40.20% 57.51%
Clay 43.10% 54.11%
Ziebach 44.59% 53.09%

Those are the same six counties, the only six counties, that refused Trump a majority of their vote in 2016.

We can’t count Minnehaha yet, but of the remaining 65 counties, 51 gave Trump a larger percentage of their votes this year than they did in 2016. Four years of non-stop lies, dismantling of vital public institutions, farm-killing tariffs prompting increased farm dependence on vote-buying socialist welfare checks, disregard of the rule of law, and a lot more bluster than practical policy discussion and action, and 51 of South Dakota’s counties say Donald Trump deserves even more of our support.

South Dakota, I am profoundly disappointed in you.

I can safely say that the majority of SD is disappointed in liberals and have soundly rejected you. You should delete your blog

Perhaps a lot of would be Biden supporters thought their votes wouldn’t matter and didn’t vote? I’m not a believer in that way of thinking, but a lot of people are.

Sorry James. It’s a known fact that South Dakotans would elect a bag of nails as long as it had an “R” after it.
Thanks Cory, keep up the good work.

James, the US is supposed to be about different voices and political views. This is what makes America. Cory brings a voice to the minority party in SD.

Trumpists really do like their Authoritarianism.

Whatever the case may be, it’s clear, we wanna be stoned to go on.

    LIVE UPDATES
Biden wins more votes than any candidate in US history
With votes still being counted, Biden has broken Barack Obama’s record, with 70,427,609 ballots cast in his favour.”

Two to one, the Biden camp over the trump virus. Failed states like South Dakota and the phony electoral college, keep us failed too.

The Rust Belt is not the Democrat Stronghold it once was. Ohio is Red and Michigan, PA and Wisconsin are purple states. MN is kind of an outlier, they say it’s a purple state but hasn’t voted Red since ’72. Hennepin and Ramsey counties are deep blue and they carry the State (sorry Rural MN, that’s just the way it goes. I don’t like seeing the Iron Range turn Red. Maybe it’s that angry white man syndrome again .

Arizona and Texas are not Safe Red States anymore and I think Dems need to stop focusing on thinking they have to win Florida in every election. Florida is one you always want to grab but Democrats are not winning there. Georgia is turning into a nice purple state (thanks Atlanta) so Dems need to focus more there instead of Florida. Texas and Georgia will turn blue in the future.

Here is an example of what I am talking about where good SD progressives leave their state and have a much better chance of getting their voices heard and winning!
Molly Dennis was raised in the Black Hills of SD and is a strong progressive focusing on cultural awareness, inclusion/ equality and mental health. She won a spot on the Rochester City Council. She will be an awesome voice and for cultures of people!
Thanks SD, I wish your state would welcome progressives more but there is just better opportunity elsewhere.

Isn’t is funny when someone spouts a theory with no thought as to what it might mean to what is important to them. James, an apparent South Dakota Republican and Trumpist, provides a revealing example by stating gleefully:

I can safely say that the majority of SD is disappointed in liberals and have soundly rejected you. You should delete your blog

Here is where that takes James:

    First,

It was safely documented that the majority of U.S. citizens were disappointed in Trumpist Republicanism in 2016 and soundly rejected Trump by about three million votes. Trump should have deleted himself.

    Second

It was safely documented that the majority of U.S. citizens were disappointed in South Dakota’s choice of Trumpist Republicanism in 2016 and soundly rejected South Dakota’s viewpoint by about three million votes. South Dakota as a State should have been deleted.

Be careful what you ask for.

Biden wins Wisconsin and Michigan and needs 17 moar electoral votes for victory.

James, we’re all sorry that as a child you fell from your high-chair onto a rock floor and haven’t been quite right since. But, we understand that there are differences among us all. Be grateful Cory doesn’t treat you as your boy Trump would from someone from a ‘sh@t-hole country’ -using his own words.

Nevada and Arizona are trending blue and Biden leads in both and will hit 270 electoral votes if he bags both. Then Pa. won’t matter.

  13. mike from iowa 2020-11-04 17:51

Biden has Arizona and 264 electoral votes. Nevada won’t announce until 9 am Thursday. Nevada has 6 votes that would fit nicely in Biden’s greatest electoral win ever.

James, pshaww. No I’m not ashamed to be a South Dakotan. I’m just ashamed of my fellow South Dakotans and the way they cower at the thought of any kind of progressivism. This nation will not continue to flourish unless we continue to progress as far as social justice and equality and the golden rule, and neither will this state. But I did not vote the way my fellow SDans voted, so I will adopt no shame from their majority behavior. I will continue to count myself a proud South Dakotan, proud American, even though I’m in the minority. I am not responsible for the failures of others, even my countrymen. SD has become a very backward state, so sadly, if that’s the way SDans want it to stay, that’s the way it will stay. But it won’t stay that way forever, because there is no future in staying the same– it will just go down the tubes as time goes on. South Dakota represents the failure of conservatism and backwardness, not the failure of liberalism.

Isn’t Nevada too close to call yet, MFI?

  16. mike from iowa 2020-11-04 18:32

Yes it is, but, Biden is leading in Nevada. The results might come out as early as later tonight. If Nevada goes for Biden, it is all over except the whining and accusations and threats.

  17. Jake 2020-11-04 18:41

It’s Biden’s win, for sure. Trump acts like a cornered badger just baring his teeth and looking real ferocious. Pathetic, but if you knew you were going to jail in the future you’d be pissed too.

  18. jerry 2020-11-04 18:43

Georgia is in play too!! Last yankee that took Georgia was Sherman!

James, if Biden wins the Presidential election, does that mean America is rejecting Kristi Noem and that she has an obligation to delete her Twitter and Facebook campaign accounts?

If Biden wins the Presidency, should South Dakota delete itself?

I will continue to point out to the large majority of South Dakota voters that they are embracing a liar, a sociopath, a man who’s egotism and rudeness would get him thrown out of any normal job interview in South Dakota. I will continue to point out that they are voting for one-party rule, which leads to corruption, waste, and worse government.

And I will continue to point out to the South Dakota Democratic Party that, since whatever we’ve done in the last 20 years has failed to win elections, we need to try some very different strategies and candidates.

  20. John 2020-11-04 19:40

Once, again, the broken values shine through for the majority of South Dakotans via their affiliation and support of a guy with 3 wives, pays off hookers, fails paying his contractors, mocks the handicap, grabs genitals, pals with Epstein, repeatedly lies, declared bankruptcy 5 times, etc., etc. Great South Dakota values folks. You should be proud. No wonder your kids cannot wait to flee the state.

    James:

    @steve_vladeck
    19h
If Biden pulls it out but Republicans end up with a one- or two-seat majority in the Senate, that would give a ton of power to Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney…(twitter)

Pretty smart. Not so smart: Trump’s tweet 11.3.20@11:44pm “We are up big but they are trying to steal the election…yahdahyahdahyahdah.”

Cory, James is right, there is no room for democratic thinking in the 250,000 Republican members of the SD GOP. Big woof. The blog is the best thing this state has got going. B1b bombers don’t make you think. Methane doesn’t. Tourists don’t. Gold doesn’t. The banished rule against perpetuities doesn’t (billionaire forever trusts of hidden laundered cash). The Missouri River as a drinking water source doesn’t. CAFOs don’t.

Ok, cows, milk and grain bins do. Like DFP!

Oh, James, still dancin’ on our graves?

  22. Jake 2020-11-05 11:11

Hi James! Head feelin’ any better yet?
