Freedom Is Nice, But SD and Noem Depend on Government to Survive

Governor Kristi Noem tells us that the most important thing we can learn from the coronavirus pandemic is that “more freedom, not more government, is the answer.”

Meanwhile, according to estimates received by the Legislature’s Executive Board yesterday, South Dakota government is receiving $1.816 billion in coronavirus assistance from the federal government. South Dakota small businesses have been approved for $1.370 billion in forgivable loans in the first round of the Paycheck Protection Program and $1.641 billion in the second round. Add all of the government aid poured into South Dakota’s public and private sectors to cushion the blow of coronavirus, and we are receiving $5.543 billion from freedom-preserving cash from the biggest government in the world.

For perspective, our state’s total gross domestic product last year was $53.306 billion. The government assistance we’ve received in less than three months for coronavirus and recession relief equals more than a tenth of last year’s total economic activity.

Freedom isn’t keeping paychecks in workers’ pockets through this pandemic. More government is.

Kristi isn’t making her little speech about freedom to rational policymakers. As she has all her life, when feds come with checks, she holds out her hand and tells the government, more, yes, more! She’s just offering more fluff to the drooling hordes who want a liberty poster-girl, not a serious discussion of how government necessarily underpins all of our aspirations for greater liberty and justice for all, especially in times of pandemic and other crises that break the fragile free market.

    Unbelievable.
    More freedom, Less government?

Racota Valley Ranch, the Noem family farm run by The Dope Queens
brothers Rob and Rock received almost $350,000 in Market Facilitation Payments recently and since 1995 have gotten 4.13 MILLION
    dollars from the government.
Now that’s a whole boatload of less
Government alright. That will buy a
    Lot of “Freedom”.
At this point, all I can hope for is a
Stray bottle rocket flying up her butt on July 3rd.

It’s kind of how South Dakota operates in all sorts of areas. Blue state taxpayers have to bail out South Dakota year after year. Being on the dole is so routine that South Dakotan’s think that’s “freedom.”

There’s also the little fact that not only did she do as little as possible to protect us South Dakotans from COVID-19, she basically made sure it would spread further here in Sioux Falls, by her remarkable “I’ve spoken with the leadership of Smithfield, and they are doing everything possible for the health and safety of their employees, and if you’d only talk to them instead of all those disgruntled employees, you’d hear the truth” speech to a local reporter. Result? Smithfield doubled active cases TWICE before she wrote a stern letter to them. And even then, nothing but praise for the company that injected over 1,000 COVID-19 cases into our community.

And right now she’s endangering South Dakotans by using her governmental powers to
    (1) announce that plans have been scrapped to mandate social distancing at the large rally for the President on July 3rd;
    (2) encourage tourism – “Noem says she isn’t concerned an influx of tourists would heighten the risk. Coronavirus infections are on a downward trend in the state and hospitals are prepared to handle more infections if needed, she said.”
    (3) encourage Sturgis and yet more tourism.
    (4) now to encourage people to flee those high-density, tyrannical cities and move to South Dakota, where “if you want freedom, personal responsibility, and a government that works for you rather than dictates to you, South Dakota is the place to get it.”
(Will write more as soon as I get over my fit of hysterical laughter at THAT phrase.)

Noem’s not only taken the kool-aid; she received a kool-aid water-boarding. The raygun era and it’s lies are over. What a an ignorant, hubristic imagination — pretending that the SD federal welfare state needs less government, while doing NOTHING to reduce that government. SD has more local government per capita than any other state. Consolidate counties. Reduce the college footprints. Propose reducing the legislature to a 51-senator nonpartisan unicameral, etc.
And then there’s little ranchette, courtesy of the US taxpayers.

Why would Kristi risk getting off message with a serious conversation when it’s command of shallow slogans and hot button issues along with sexual charisma that win her elections? She’s laughing all the way to the bank.

It’s the GOP ploy, say the opposite of the truth. Repeat ad nauseam. It works in the cult.

“the place to get it”—wow, Eve! It’s as if Noem is still on her Meth: We’re On It strategy: craft deliberately ridiculous messages, inviting media criticism, just so she can get more attention and tell her supporters that the media and liberals are just being mean to her again. Add that to the recipe Aaron lays out, and we have Noem’s full plan for personal advancement, the public good be hanged.

Kruel Kristi is a trumpeting trumpette.

Sloganeering is as articulate as she will ever get.

Wall Street calls that “helicopter money” mfi. We taxpayers are shelling out billions to Wall Street on blue sky. More speculation and less worth.

Sloganeering is as articulate as Noem will ever be, whether in South Dakota, on Hannity, or in DC.
