Ross Says Sen. Killer and Other Democrats Intimidated Her to Keep Quiet About Candidate Residency Questions

Margaret Ross
Margaret Ross

As I read Margaret Ross’s hearsay allegations about the residency of Senator-Elect Red Dawn Foster and Representative-Elect Peri Pourier, I wondered why she didn’t bring them up during the campaign. Ross, who was running along with Pourier on the Democratic ticket for District 27 House, says the allegation that Pourier wasn’t legally qualified to run that office “was brought to my attention, specifically and explicitly” on August 5, 2018. As a good Democrat, Ross could have gone straight to the candidates and the party leadership and, if the allegation was true, told them, “We’ve got to replace Pourier with a qualified candidate.” There was still time for a switch on August 5: candidates had until August 7 to withdraw, and parties had until August 14 to name replacements.

According to Ross, no conversation of that sort worth mentioning pertaining to this matter of great consequence took place until after those deadlines, on August 15, when she spoke with District 27 Senator Kevin Killer and Senate candidate Foster about the matter.

At that point, with no option for fixing the problem, perhaps a “good” Democrat pipes down, hopes no one hears about it, and tries to ride along with her ticketmates (note how at first she only hear smack about Pourier, then on August 15 heard Foster could also be in legal dutch) to a triple-bill victory over the Republicans in November.

But forget partisan loyalty: a good citizen, upon learning that her party is backing illegal candidates, speaks up and warns the voters. Why keep silent?

Because, swears Ross, Senator and other unnamed Democrats “attempted to intimidate and influence” Ross to shut up:

Highlighting mine; Margaret Ross, affidavit, 2019.01.04, p. 1.
Highlighting mine; Margaret Ross, affidavit, 2019.01.04, p. 1.
Margaret Ross, affidavit, 2019.01.04, p. 2.
Margaret Ross, affidavit, 2019.01.04, p. 2.

The first proper response to “intimidation” by a Democrat in South Dakota is laughter.

The second proper response, while you’re laughing, if the threat is real, is to hit Tweet or Send or Publish or whatever button on your phone you like to use to share information with the world. Your obligation in that situation is to alert the public to the fact that thugs and fakers are trying to steal their election (much as I’m doing with my reporting on Shad Olson and Jordan Mason’s attempts to do that, now, alas, with Ross’s help).

But victims of real intimidation can have many reasons for not reporting that intimidation immediately. We’ve talked a lot recently about how we need to blame female victims less and listen to them more. Unfortunately, Ross is making it somewhat more difficult to listen to her allegations of intimidation by hitching them to the nothingburger case two white-wing men are making to steal an election and discredit two duly elected Lakota legislators.

I’ve known Sen Killer and his family for years, Kevin’s father was a classmate of my brother.
Kevin is a soft-spoken humble warrior that could not possibly intimidate another tribal member.

Ms. Ross is kind of a big girl. I doubt that anyone could or would even try to intimidate her.

Mrs. Ross’ affidavit wasn’t given before Shad Olson brought charges. It wasn’t made before Cory’s story broke. It was given yesterday. It’s possible that once Olson realized his goose was cooked, he went looking for some “new stuff” to help his case. Who knows what he said to Mrs. Ross but her history of saying or not saying things at the appropriate time has already been challenged and disputed. It would have been more believable had the affidavit been part of the original charge. This one doesn’t quite pass the smell test.

According to Shad Olsen’s Facebook page he seems to think that he is important enough for the Democrats to file a complaint against him when the legislature opens for business on January 8.

Nobody else cares, Mr. H. Do what Senator Shoenbeck says and just let it lie. Fer gosh sakes, you are so enraged at Mr. Novstrup, the elder, that you are just tilting at whatever windmills your coke bottle bifocals let you see and your recumbent bike lets you turn to face.

Flail your arms less, talk at a normal rate, and be one of the people, be less disagreeable, and they might elect you. That was the advice I think I heard once, involving Oxford commas. It seemed sound.

Mr. C, many of us in Rapid know Mr. Killer by a different last name. Do you know that name?

What complaint does Shad allege Democrats are going to file against him? In what venue? Shad’s an ass, but I’m not aware of any law he’s broken.

Enough about me, Grudz. What is Killer’s other name?

  9. Rachel 2019-01-06 11:20

Not cool Jerry. No need to fat-shame to get a point across.

No I don’t know Sen. Killer by another last name, but given this is republican Rapid City I would guess it is probably profane or racist.

Not done Ms. Rachel, a big girl doesn’t necessarily mean fat. It has many meanings. I am fat, damn fat. I am not a big guy, just a fat guy. I am not ashamed of being a fat guy either. I get a little head heavy when I have to tie my shoes but, I am what I am.

Rose is a big girl that seems to have been around politically speaking. I make the remark that as a big girl she can pull up her big girl pants and be able to deal with things like someone intimidating her as bull pukey. That is a stretch, no one intimidated her, she is trying to do the intimidating… so be calm.

BTW, just weighed myself this morning…and just as I thought, still fat and unashamed. Got a lemon pie in the cooler that I am gonna have today, not all of it, but definitely will take a bite out of it. I am like Yogi the Bear. Did you notice he is a little horizontally challenged?

Ms. Ross is just an angry gossiper. If you were having some taniga and fry bread with her at the table in the conversation, you would want to be the last one to leave or she would be bellyaching about you with some kind of unproven gossip. The white boys picked the right person from the rez to do their bidding.

So, to keep score, they now have a racist trumper, who is on the dole with the subsidy teat, making unfounded gossip along with another gossiper along with a guy who cannot remember the gossip he is supposed to be attesting to, making unfounded accusations. Yep, sounds like nonsense to me.

This way it can be newsworthy to keep the legislature from doing the work of the people…the honest work of the people. Division instead of legislating, makes for poor results for the people.

  13. grudznick 2019-01-06 13:07

No, Mr. C, it is his real last name, and it is not profane or derogatory.

PS: I had the meat lover’s breakfast with a side of sausage gravy at Tally’s this morning and it was superb. It is a shame they do not serve breakfast after two in the afternoon as that would make a fine dinner as well.

Why are playing games with Sen. Killer’s real last name? Perhaps I may recall the name if I heard it.

  15. Rorschach 2019-01-06 13:19

Here’s the thing. The issue comes up regularly whether Republicans live in the district they are running in, or whether they continue to live in the district they were elected in. If they set a precedent by refusing to seat these Democrats … well … their house is made of glass, let’s say – and then it’s game on.

Mr. grudznick is a hypocrite, but we already knew that. He always said that he would not open a blue link because it may contain porn that “Lar” might have sent him. Now he wants you to open one of his.

  17. grudznick 2019-01-06 16:58

You can trust my blue links, Mr. jerry, to be on topic. They are innocuous and do not go to those heinous pictures that Lar used to share. My blue links will not make your mommy blush.
