More youth and vigor for the Democratic team running for Legislature in 2018: 26-year-old Tyler Volesky tells the Huron Plainsman he’s running for District 22 House:
“I am particularly interested in promoting efforts to build a strong state economy that will help attract financial investments in our state and keep our young people here to raise families and strengthen our future,” he said.
Volesky said he will work to help build a state government that is responsive to the needs of citizens rather than the goals of special interests.
“I believe powerful special interests have controlled state government for far too long and the state Legislature needs to stand up against these elements,” he said.
Volesky said he will also be a strong proponent of adequate funding for K-12 education.
“There is nothing more important than a first-class education system for our young people,” he said [staff, “Volesky Announces House Candidacy,” Huron Plainsman, 2017.12.22].
Volesky is the son of Huron lawyer and former legislator Ron Volesky, who served three terms in the House as a Republican (1981–1986), then four terms in the House and one term in the Senate as a Democrat (1993–2002).
District 22’s current House delegation consists of two Republican rookies, Bob Glanzer and Roger Chase.
The big question: saner than daddy or insaner than mommy?
I’ve met him a couple of times grudz. very sharp young man and I wish him well
The last name may be a double-edged sword. I wish him well.
I like seeing younger people throw their hats in state politics. South Dakota needs to clean house of the “Good old boy” hierarchy in the legislature.
Mr. reitzel, his daddy is a sharp guy too. Let us hope that Mr. Volesky, the younger, does not suffer from the lashback from his mother’s knee-jerk defending of the candidate out there who is the insanest of them all.
He’s a great young man. Best of luck to tyler!
