Team Noem’s Stonewalling Speaks for Itself

Taxpayers are paying six figures for Kristi Noem’s comms team, but it seems all her people can say when the press asks them to clarify something that falls from the Governor’s mouth is that each gubernatorial dropping “speaks for itself”.

Asked if Noem had a specific concern about a particular university teaching elements of critical race theory or the 1619 Project, if there was a specific concern with the mission of any one diversity office in the state’s public universities or if Noem could explain for constituents how teaching critical race theory is different than teaching about racism, Noem’s spokesman, Ian Fury, said the letter speaks for itself and that Noem looks forward to hearing from the Board of Regents after its own discussion on the issue [Morgan Matzen, “Gov. Noem: University System Should INvestigate If State Funds Are Used to Teach Critical Race Theory,” Sioux Falls Argus Leader, updated 2021.06.02].

The Republican governor promised on Twitter late Monday that she would call a special legislative session if Roe is overturned. Noem’s spokesman Ian Fury declined to discuss her reasoning, saying only that her tweet “speaks for itself” [Stephen Groves, “South Dakota Readies for State-Lines Abortion Access Fight,” AP via U.S. News and World Report, 2022.03.03].

When asked what Noem’s signature on the budget means for the tax cut bill, spokesman Ian Fury told South Dakota Searchlight that Noem’s letter “speaks for itself” [Makenzie Huber, “Noem Signs $7.4 Billion Budget Despite Previous Threats,” South Dakota Searchlight, 2023.03.20].

As to any specifics on how the order would be applied, what contracts it could affect, the need for such an order, why the order is needed after the Legislature rejected a similar bill, Fury said in an email. ” …the Executive Order speaks for itself. It answers all of your other questions” [Rae Yost, “Does Noem’s Gun Order Miss a Target?” KELO-TV, 2023.04.17].

Good grief, Ian! Why not save yourself the trouble of regurgitating even those three empty words? If your boss doesn’t think her actions require any explanation to the public, why not go full Elon and just autoreply to all press inquires with a poop emoji?

    Here, Ian –
Teaching Critical Race Theory (CRT) is different than teaching about racism because CRT is a specific theoretical framework that seeks to analyze how race and racism are embedded in legal systems, institutions, and society at large. It is a more comprehensive lens that examines the history of racism, its impact on marginalized groups, and how it continues to shape social structures and policies.

Teaching about racism, on the other hand, focuses on identifying acts of discrimination and prejudice based on race and their impacts on individuals and communities. It is a more basic understanding of how racism works, compared to CRT which offers a more nuanced examination of the systemic ways in which racism operates.

Therefore, teaching CRT allows for a deeper and more complex understanding of racism and its implications, while teaching about racism offers a more simplistic understanding of the concept.

    P. Aitch; good description but far too deep of thought for a Hillsdale grad to carry/disclose to an even dumber governor.

The thing about the poop emoji is it is very complex in its meaning, way, way beyond what anyone working for Noem would understand. Also, the poop emoji is usually in the form of perfectly formed soft-serve. Although that form of poop, which we have all had from time to time, though not aligned perfectly as you might get at Dairy Queen, does not capture Noem’s understanding of any issue. What you need in a poop emoji for Noem would be lots of small marble-sized poop droplets, which would represent Noem losing her marbles from the sh*t in her brains.

Well explained, P. Aitch. Thank you.
Noem ought understand racism. Racism is the basis of the line of title for her ranchette. The Dakota War. And the BS of the “finders, keepers” doctrine. The not-so-Christian doctrine of “discovery”.

Members of flyover country ought to be amazed, and thankful, that the genesis of the 1619 Project was in a working class neighborhood in Cedar Rapids, IA. A young school aged gal wondered she learned about the history of others and not the history of her family. The 4 episode documentary is enlightening and educational (Hulu, perhaps others).

I also question how her EO on halting any SD trade with “countries who hate us” permits SD to do business with Cuba.

That’s in addition to wondering if KN somehow shut up the media for several days because a 10 yr old in Sioux Falls shot an 11 yr old on the same day as the bad governor’s NRA speech where she infamously bragged about her toddler grandchild owning firearms. Seems she wouldn’t want that sad news printed alongside her fugly speech. Doesn’t look good side by side.

All the while, the state now must pay millions to Hillsdale to purchase their BS curriculum paraphernalia no man woman or child in SD wants anything to do with. She, and her high-dollar comm team are fit for Knighthood In Satan’s Service. Those lips say KISS but alls I hear is, She’s got a gun! RUN!

Things are quite literally going to 💩 thanks to folks who voted KN, et al.

  6. Cory, Ian sayeth, the degree of Fury speaks for itself. He learned from the best. Noem speaks about truth, sooo just speak the truth to her and her boy from Hillsdale. It’s easy to point out that CRT is true and is a subterfuge with both Kristi and Ian and the entire Republican party. The fungal horde of the repubs has other checkpoints that you point out. It’s just so sad that Kristi Noem has become infected. If only a Penicillin shot would work like its done for her in the past.. The only treatment is loss and the fungal nucleus denies that too, like both Trump and Kari Lake.
Bye the way, the entire state of South Dakota needs those weekly Penicillin shots, don’t they? Is sex breaking out everywhere, there, in the red state?

    Jake nailed it.

Similarly, BUZZ FEED has failed (famously its byline: that “we firmly believe that for a number of issues, including civil rights, women’s rights, anti-racism, and LGBT equality, there are not two sides.”[145])

And: BuzzFeed cancelled an advertising agreement with the Republican National Committee over what BuzzFeed founder Jonah Peretti called “offensive remarks” made by Donald Trump. Peretti said: “We certainly don’t like to turn away revenue that funds all the important work we do across the company. However, in some cases we must make business exceptions: we don’t run cigarette ads because they are hazardous to our health, and we won’t accept Trump ads for the exact same reason.”[151]

The Guardian observed today: “it’s worthwhile to state outright what caused his creation’s downfall: Social media’s—most specifically Facebook’s—pivot away from news. There is a reason why the New York Times is thriving, and places like HuffPost, Slate, and New York Magazine are still around. We’re legacy; we have homepages and loyal audiences.”

Of course, just as similarly, Kristi’s legion failures abound from her inability to deal with facts and reality, completely subsumed by the right wing media.
