Ethics Board Drafts Special Counsel to Dig into Noem Corruption—Not That Primary Challenger Haugaard Noticed…

Also not tweeting fast enough on issues of vital campaign importance is Steve Haugaard. In what ought to be a staggering headline one month ahead of a Republican primary vote, the Government Accountability Board is engaging a special counsel to proceed with two ethics complaints against Governor Kristi Noem:

The South Dakota Government Accountability board is moving forward in its examination of complaints against Governor Kristi Noem.

The complaints involve the use of the state airplane and a meeting at the governor’s mansion concerning her daughter’s appraiser license.

…They decided to hire an attorney to advise them on the legality of the issues being raised.

Assistant Attorney General Katie Mallery usually advises the board but will step aside to avoid any conflict of interest [links added; Tom Hanson, “Government Accountability Board Moves Forward on Gov. Noem Complaints,” KELO-TV, 2022.05.02].

Every other case that the Government Accountability Board has considered has been dismissed without any action. The GAB’s consideration of these two separate corruption allegations against the Governor is lasting longer and requiring more deliberation than any previous complaint.

A Republican primary candidate with one month to take Noem down should be all over this dark-for-Noem development in these two corruption complaints. “Noem under investigation!” the challenger’s Tweets and emails should shout. “Judges pick special counsel to investigate Noem’s corruption! With ethics cloud hanging over Kristi’s head, our party can’t risk losing the Governor’s Office to liberal Jamie Smith. Don’t gamble the Governor’s chair on Kristi’s corruption—elect a real, honest conservative!”

But handed this golden opportunity to amplify and exploit a golden headline for much needed primary traction, Steve Haugaard remains Twitter silent. As of this morning, his most recent Tweet is an April 29 fundraising pitch with a bearded man, a straw-hatted lady, and their smiling, vegetable-clutching daughter.

Come on, Steve! Respond to the moment! You got on the Governor’s case about her sauna and expensive rug back in December; with voters now casting ballots for a primary that’s a mere month away, you need to get back on the attack horse. When KELO and the GAB hand you a headline like “Investigation into Noem Corruption Continues,” you get out the megaphone and Twist and Shout!

    Republican ethics is an oxymoron.

Come on South Dakotans, she was protecting her daughter. First she protected her from abortion and then protected Kassidy from that horrible Sherry Bren. Republican’s always follow a higher law, you know that. They prey with you.

I have faith in the Government Accountability Board to dig deep into the allegations against Governor Noem and come to a finding that is based on facts. The Chairperson, Lori Wilbur is a person of great integrity. There will be no shoveling this mess under the rug.

The Gov made the MSMBC New with her stank of Roe v Wade.

So who is going to support the babies born to mothers who can not take of them and the babies born with severe birth defects?
