Biden: “What Beats Deep in the Hearts of the American People Is… Democracy, the Right to Be Heard”

What a thrill it was to switch on my radio last night after supper and hear a real adult giving a real speech about our real election and the real meaning of American democracy.

President-Elect Joe Biden gave a rousing speech yesterday evening following the completion of the Electoral College vote, which went 306–222 for Biden, just as the voters directed on November 3. President-Elect Biden celebrated not himself but democracy and the brave Americans who make democracy work even amidst great adversity:

Today, the members of the Electoral College representing the certified winner, cast their votes for President and Vice President of the United States in an act just as old as our nation itself. And once again in America, the rule of law, our Constitution and the will of the people prevailed. Our democracy pushed, tested, threatened, proved to be resilient, true and strong. The Electoral College votes which occurred today effect the fact that even in the face of a public health crisis unlike anything we’ve experienced in our lifetime, the people voted. They voted in record numbers. More Americans voted this year than have ever voted in the history of the United States of America. Over 155 million Americans were determined to have their voices heard and their votes counted. In the start of this pandemic, this crisis, many were wondering how many Americans would actually vote at all. But those fears proved to be unfounded. We saw something very few predicted, even thought possible, the biggest voter turnout in the history of the United States of America, a number so big that this election now ranks as the clearest demonstration of the true will of the American people, one of the most amazing demonstrations of civic duty we’ve ever seen in our country [President-Elect Joe Biden, speech to the nation, as transcribed by Rev.com, 2020.12.14].

President-Elect Biden, who has been busy forming a government, took a moment to call on the blithering selfish piece of crap he will succeed to accept the sacred will of the people:

306 electoral votes is the same number of electoral votes that Donald Trump and Vice President Pence received when they won in 2016, excuse me. At the time, President Trump calls the Electoral College tally a landslide. By his own standards. These numbers represented a clear victory then, and I respectfully suggest they do so now. If anyone didn’t know before, they know now. What beats deep in the hearts of the American people is this, democracy, the right to be heard, to have your vote counted, to choose leaders of this nation, to govern ourselves [Biden, 2020.12.14].

Knowing the departing occupant of the White House will show no such grace, President-Elect Biden condemned the current Administration’s bullying of honest election officials and other brave public servants:

In America, politicians don’t take power, people grant power to them. The flame of democracy was lit in this nation a long time ago. And we now know nothing, not even a pandemic or an abuse of power can extinguish that flame. And as the people kept it a flame, so too did courageous state and local officials, and election workers. American democracy works because America makes it work at a local level. One of the extraordinary things we saw this year was that every day Americans, our friends and our neighbors, often volunteers, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, demonstrating absolute courage, they showed a deep and unwavering faith in and a commitment to the law. They did their duty in the face of the pandemic. And then they could not and would not give credence to what they knew was not true. They knew this election was overseen, was overseen by them. It was honest, it was free and it was fair.

They saw it with their own eyes and they wouldn’t be bullied into saying anything different. It was truly remarkable because so many of these patriotic Americans are subject to so much, enormous political pressure, verbal abuse, and even threats of physical violence. While we all wish that our fellow Americans in these positions will always show such courage and commitment to free and fair elections, it is my sincere hope we never again see anyone subjected to the kind of threats and abuse we saw in this election. It’s simply unconscionable. We owe these public servants a debt of gratitude. They didn’t seek the spotlight, and our democracy survived because of them, which is proof once more that it’s everyday America and infused with honor, character and decency that is the heart of this nation [Biden, 2020.12.14].

As usual, President-Elect Biden spoke with simple, sincere passion for public service. After four years of constant insults and complete malarkey from the White House, these thirteen minutes show how refreshing it will be to have at the helm of our great nation a real President, a genuine public servant who believes in and fights for democracy. Biden won 17% of the US counties, fewest ever by a presidential winner. (Of course, as noted in comments on an earlier thread, those counties’ economies disproportionately power the US economy.)
A candidate could win the Electoral College by winning only 11% of US counties, and lose the popular vote by OVER 100,000,000 votes.
The near-medieval Electoral College needs replacement by one-person, one-vote.

Why was Mr. Biden coughing so much? If Mr. Trump was hacking like that you fellows and grudznick would be all over it. Is Mr. Biden ok?

  3. Donald Pay 2020-12-15 13:21

Won’t it great, Grudz, to have a President who recognizes the courage of people in the opposing party who stand for The American Way, as opposed to the Putin way?

  4. Mark Anderson 2020-12-15 13:56

Why don’t you ask him Gruds? I believe he was tickled to win again, and again, and again. Trump the lying loser can’t bring himself to admit the American people fired him. He has to continue to con, its his only way. Don’t worry So Daks, he loves each and every one of you. He thought about moving to the hills maybe he’ll move to Mt. Rushmore and con and lie from there.

Mr. Anderson, you must be daft. grudznick is disgusted by Mr. Trump and his behaviors.

    Mr. Pay, indeed it will.

Biden admitted to having a bit of a cold, after his speech, Grudzilla. No great conspiracy involved.

Fantastic to hear a real leader not make every subject about himself, for once sand again.

  7. grudznick 2020-12-15 17:15

Mr. mike, even there in Iowa from whence you hail, the common cold is a coronavirus. I do not think the young lady is ready to step up, so I hope Mr. Biden gets better fast.

Grudz, yes, I heard President-Elect Biden struggling with that phlegmy frog in his throat. He persevered to deliver an important message. It’s funny how thoughtful, unselfish (as Mike notes!), instructive, discussion-worthy rhetoric can drown out minor technical/biological speech points.

When Trump sneezes, wheezes, and whines through his podium rambles, it’s all we hear, because his words convey nothing worth our consideration.

Actually John, the article says you COULD win by winning only 11 counties – total – not 11% – Just 11.

Good lessons for your debating students, Mr. H. A video you might be showing them in Debate 101 for years to come.

“What Beats Deep in the Hearts of the American People…” will never catch on or become as famous or true as that famous speech that began “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men…”

    The Shadow knows, mhmhahahahahaha.
Just between us old guys, Grudz.

    Biden may be a robot.

If not, he’s a reanimated corpse.

I think it’s sophomoric to act gushy because your team might take power, disregarding how it got there.

If Biden gets into office, it will unleash a dramatic crime wave.

    Why not?

There would be no rule of law except that of kinetic power.

No need to pour over legalities, constitutions, ordinances to conduct one’s behavior. Only having to worry about withstanding the repercussions of revenge is .. FREEDOM!?

Growing up pretty liberal but never having registered Democrat, I am shocked to see that the DNC is the party of theft, anti-humanism, anti liberty, and anti-rule-of-law.

The deep state’s manufacture of artificial parity is the frankenstein of socio-political management.

Letting things continue like this wouldn’t end well.

In my estimation, the majority of the country would accept a presidential martial law declaration to undermine the Chinese-backed, medically enforced martial law currently being imposed.

Jeez John, glad to see your keeping up with the Qs, its hard to stay ahead in the race of what to say, China, pedophiles, Hunter Biden, and you never know which Republican will realize reality and just go overboard. Its a tough world out there.
