We’re up to nine confirmed cases of coronavirus at the Demkota Ranch Beef plant in Aberdeen, and the company has yet to announce any shutdown to prevent the spread to more workers and their Brown County neighbors:
Kim Malsam-Rysdon, South Dakota secretary of health, also confirmed the nine cases involving beef plant employees during a news conference with Gov. Kristi Noem.
“We did have a team at the facility again this morning. We are also working with the community of Aberdeen” on what needs to be done from a safety standpoint, Malsam-Rysdon said.
Testing continues to be made available to anyone with symptoms. The state uses “symptomatic” as a guideline for when a person should be tested for an active case. Close contacts are also being investigated at the plant, Malsam-Rysdon said [“Nine of Brown County’s Confirmed Cases from Demkota Ranch Beef Plant,” Hub City Radio, 2020.04.23].
From a safety standpoint, what needs to be done is shut the plant down and send all of the workers home for two weeks of quarantine to make sure they don’t catch covid-19 or spread it to anyone else. From a safety standpoint, what needs to be done is the Governor needs to order the plant to close, then walk across the street to the Department of Labor and authorize immediate unemployment checks for every Demkota employee, with the exception of maybe the managers who keep picking profits over public health.

I did consider air pollution when we bought a house in Aberdeen. I haven’t smelled the beef plant yet this far north. We just smell the ethanol plant… and alcohol kills viruses, right?
If you drink enough of it they say even the tiniest covids can’t get you. But sometimes they say wrong stuff, so don’t believe everything they say.

After a Homeland Security official mentioned the ability of disinfectants like bleach to kill the coronavirus on surfaces, Trump remarked on the effectiveness.
“And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?” Trump said during his daily press briefing at the White House. “Because you see it gets on the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it’d be interesting to check that. So that you’re going to have to use medical doctors, but it sounds — it sounds interesting to me.”

In mid-March, we were at less than 100 recognized Covid-19 U.S, deaths. At the current rate, the Trump Virus will have gone from the entire Vietnam War in a month and a half. Good job, Donnie.
