DRA Hosts CAFO Forum for County Officials Dec. 6 in Watertown

Hey, county commissioners! Would you like to learn about confined animal feeding operations from someone who isn’t out to make a buck on them? Then come to Dakota Rural Action’s third annual CAFO forum in Watertown on December 6:

Dakota Rural Action’s Rural Vitality Committee will hold their 3rd annual Forum in Watertown on Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs). Designed to assist county officials who are coping with the rise in permit applications in some parts of the state, the CAFO Forum will feature sessions on legal, infrastructure, and environmental issues related to the permitting process.

The workshop will take place on Friday, December 6th from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Codington County Extension Building. Elected and appointed county officials involved in the permitting process can RSVP by Nov. 27th by contacting Rebecca Terk at rebeccat@dakotarural.org or call (605) 697-5204 x260.

The forum is free of charge and lunch will be provided, but an RSVP is required to attend [Dakota Rural Action, press release, 2019.11.14].

There you go: no bribes or gubernatorial appointments, just lunch and information.

The CAFO Forum will present these speakers:

How about a speaker representing the citizens that don’t want South Dakota stinking like Sioux County Iowa. Don’t think these CAFO’s do much for home values or increasing the population of those county’s that allow them.

I do have some recommendation on locating them though……. Just north of Dakota Dunes or surrounding Sioux Falls.

This should get more discussion from folks that like living in this state! Northwest Iowa is a place I avoid just because of the smell!

Sure will be a good event!
