Trump Promised MFP Would Make up for Tariff Losses, But Farmers Need Extra Jobs to Fill Income Gaps

Farming’s hard enough. The hours are lousy, it’s one of the ten most dangerous jobs in America, and when Donald Trump wrecks their markets by raising taxes on consumers, favoring Big Oil over ethanol, and slashing SNAP, his cheap farm-welfare checks don’t make up for farmers’ losses:

(Alternative lead: Neighbor Nick made national news!)

South Dakota farmer, Nick Nemec echoes this sentiment, believing farmers in his community need open trade, not “government welfare checks” that do not come close to covering market losses.

“Payments are simply an attempt to buy off farmers and to make up for the trade war damage, but it hasn’t made up for the damages at all,” he told ABC News. “We still have to make up for lost income elsewhere” [Isabelle Philippe, “US–China Trade War Forcing Many Farmers to Take 2nd Jobs to Make Ends Meet,” ABC News, 2019.10.05].

Nemec is just one of the farmers in this ABC report noting that, once again, Trump has lied to farmers and the country:

In May, Trump said the aid package would enable farmers to do well and “make the same kind of money.”

…Yet full assistance from MFP and other government programs remains to be seen, and for farmers like [Nebraska farmer Mark] Tuttle, maintaining previous income levels has been a major challenge.

“I’m driving trucks to Nebraska because farming isn’t paying me,” he said. “It’s been a struggle to make ends meet, and MFP is just a small band-aid on an open wound.”

Tuttle considers himself lucky, after seeing another farmer 30 miles away, sell his machinery and shut down his farm.

Tom Corcoran of the New York Corn & Soybean Growers Association.. says trucking constitutes one-third of his income and is necessary to help replace the money being lost from the tariffs.

“I’m always a bit overwhelmed because there’s too much on my plate,” Corcoran told ABC News. “I’m at risk of lawsuits from potential road accidents, and it gets tiring” [link added; Philippe, 2019.10.05].

Don’t give up your side jobs, farmers. Donald Trump wants most of you to go out of business, anyway.

Good on you, Mr Nemec and other farmers who have been blatantly lied to by the monster in the kremlin annex. Too bad Drumpf isn’t listening and doesn’t care about any of this.

The next tariff coming is with the EU in 10 days. Pray that Pelosi and the Democrats put an end to Chubby’s regime. Rounds/Thune and Dirty all support the killing of the farms for Wall Street corporations. You don’t amass the political war chests these jokers have by any other way.

    Chubby’s destruction of democracy was predicted…in 1920!

“A famous quote from a 1920 article by US journalist Henry Mencken seems to adequately capture the situation: “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Mencken believed that democratic competition would inevitably result in a race to the bottom and laid the blame on the ignorance and stupidity of the electorate. “The first and last aim of the politician,” he wrote, “is to get votes, and the safest of all ways to get votes is to appear to the plain man to be a plain man like himself … filled to the brim with the flabby, banal, childish notions that challenge no prejudice and lay no burden of examination upon the mind.”http://demands.chrisarndt.net/7783/bayard-vs-lionheart/

We are now at that bottom rung on the slippery ladder of democracy led by a true moron that is perfectly described above. More stupid to come as we race to the bottom! Better make sure that your passport is up to date and you have some kind of plan on bugging out.

The gig economy has been entrenched for the last 40 years. Ma always got a job in town while Pa ran the place. Now, Ma and Pa have the second and third jobs each just to keep the banker off the porch and still have to feed the livestock. Keep voting republican so you can get that fourth and fifth job too.

    From Axios:
This has always been the real goal for Economic Eunuch’s money machinations.
At this time in 2019, we have reached the place where the rich really do pay less in taxes than the poor. In addition, EE’s IRS is going to audit the poor, but not the rich because the GOP has whittled away at the IRS until it no longer has the means to audit the rich.

The only good(?) economic news I could find for farmers is of the “misery loves company” type. This is also from Axios:

“The [national economic] forecasters estimate just a 7% likelihood of a recession starting this year, a 24% likelihood by mid-2020 and 47% by the end of 2020.”

So next year this time it will be looking pretty bad for all of us — except Economic Eunuch and his pals. My fervent hope is at that time EE will be in jail awaiting trial on multiple felonies. 🤞🤞🤞

Marketwatch has something to say about Economic Eunuch’s trade wars:

“For all of these reasons and more, it’s likely that Trump is preparing to end this distraction and move on to the next one. We can only hope that it’s not something more violent and destructive, such as an actual shooting war.”

To find out what the reasons are, read the brief piece, no paywall.

I’ve seen that guy’s videos before. There are others like him out there. I hope they’re looking at the evidence on their farms and small businesses and turning Blue as a result.
