Billie Sutton’s big cowboy supper and campaign fundraiser in Eagle Butte last night was free and open to the public. The Sutton gubernatorial campaign invited free-will donations, but anyone could walk into Landmark Hall last night and get a free plate of brisket and beans.
Sutton’s Republican opponent, Kristi Noem, is having a little more exclusive event at swanky Washington Square in Sioux Falls on Thursday:
Noem and her wealthy insider friends (Kirby, Mickelson, Westra, McCaulley, TenHaken) expect $500 a head at their door. And they don’t even guarantee potato salad.
Noem. Palling around with her real people.
Yikes! I like a Free Will donations, they are much more meaningful …sounds more like an actual South Dakotan get-together. $500 could buy a cart load of groceries for a family.
Noem sent an email lately where she was patting herself on the back for the amazing work she has been doing to cut our taxes in Washington.
I emailed back saying b4 she toots her own horn too loud, what about the Republican threats to social security, Medicare and Medicaid?
In return, she emailed promptly saying she had championed the case for the first two. She FAILED to mention Medicaid…It tells me she would like to see the poor simply disappear.
But ol’ Kristi said it wasn’t safe in downtown Sioux Falls:
http://www.ksfy.com/content/news/Noem-strikes-nerve-with-debate-response-about-downtown-Sioux-Falls-violence-484370681.html
Washington Square, the ultimate “safe space”!
Honoring Noem for what? Are they asking for cash stuffed envelopes to pay homage and who exactly gets the raised cash?
I’d rather have the beans and potato salad.
Let’s just put it the way Trump would: When Noem invites people, she not inviting the best. She’s not inviting you. She’s not inviting you. She’s inviting people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.
I wonder how close to zero Noem’s cash on hand got at the end of the primary? Sutton had close to a million dollars. Since Noem has done so much advertising in the past and he has done none, my belief would be that his will go a lot farther per dollar spent. More memorable.
Donald Pay! ding, ding, ding…..you win the day. Perfect!
Yeah, but, Mr Pay, you did not once mention a POC. You’ll get tagged as a…. you know…. one of them that use race to stir up the rabble. Drumpf is very disappointed in you, Sir. :)
Steve Kirby, the skin dude, was a sponsor. Hmmm, as I remember Mark Barnett seemed to be saying that ol’ Steve used the million that could have gone for skin grafts on burn victims, instead went for penis enlargements cosmetic surgery. There is a bad joke in there someplace, but never mind, it fits NOem to a T.
Has Noem noticed kidnapping children by ICE is contrary to her position on saving women and children? https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/in-detention-troubling-cases-of-self-harm-among-migrant-youth_us_5b645fc2e4b0b15abaa280ae
The difference between Democrats and Russpublicans, in 2 fundraisers, one state.
That’s the difference between Democrats and Republicans. I started noticing it when I was still a democrat.
Democrats show up for the free food. Republicans pay for their own food. Democrats ask candidates “what are you going to do for me?”
Republicans ask candidates “what can we do to help you?”
I feel sorry for Democrat candidates.
Must be quite a crop of loco weed blooming in South Dakota.
Dems are generous and more than willing to share. Wingnuts are selfish and expect someone else to pay for their fancy get together with the wealthy. Who else has the suggested bribes of 500 to a thousand bucks?
Shorter Anne Beal: Republican politicians know how to take from their constituents.
I believe Brock Greenfield (R) enjoys free food.
Chuck-Z shoots and scores! Democrats backed IM22, which would have strictly limited free food and other gifts from lobbyists. Republicans freaked out about their loss of free meals from lobbyists and repealed IM22.
You are just annoyed that the Republican candidates can send out invitations like that and people show up.
The world is run by the people who show up.
Democrats show up for “free will” food, which means that you can make a donation of your own choosing or not (freedom). That does make more sense as it is the preferred method to help your fellow neighbors out when sickness or some other event happens to express community.
Democrats, in general, should rejoice in the fact that ignorant folk like yourself, would rather go for the Bribe, to seem important, rather than to be a part of social solidarity. One thing that has always impressed me about rural areas is the fact that they can come together for a good common cause and enjoy themselves, Republican, Independent and Democrat alike.
A crust that is shared is finer food than banquet served in solitude.
“Democrats show up for the free food. Republicans pay for their own food. Democrats ask candidates “what are you going to do for me?””
No Anne. Democrats show up for free food to help feed their family because their jobs don’t pay enough. Republicans pay for theirs because they have the money to buy the food.
Who else besides Democrats believe in open commensality? Jesus.
Clyde, here is that 1% you were speaking of. The 500 bucks is a wet kiss to NOem for her support for her and trump’s trade war. Get this now, “working big time” as the Bribes are now in place for the ag producers anyway. The rest of us 99 percenters, higher prices for damned near everything. Joseph Six Pack, your brew is going up dude.
“President Trump tweeted Sunday morning that his tariffs are “working big time” and made a bizarre claim that the money raised from these new import taxes will go a long way to helping pay down America’s large debt. (Short answer: That’s not what will happen).
Trump portrays the tariffs as a tax on foreigners, but the reality is that tariffs are taxes on U.S. companies and consumers. When a big U.S. retail chain or an equipment manufacturer has to pay 10 or 25 percent more to get steel from Canada or a certain part from China, that U.S. company has to pay the tax when it imports that item. U.S. businesses either eat that extra cost or pass it along to consumers.”
Yes, the gilded ones who support NOem have money to burn and to pay for the borscht, from a recipe supplied by the Russian/South Dakota Republican spy, Butina.. You just know that Comrade Dusty will be there to approve its ingredients… Meoooow
Anne can go hobnob with G. Marky, put her pinky in the air while she sips a bit of bubbly and whine, “What to do about the peasants eating free lunch with the Democrat Pahty?” Hey, is that cute couple Paul Erickson and Maria Butina gonna attend?
I can’t recall which lieutenant governor it was who “sued” Paul Erickson…
And, once again, Anne Beal proves class warfare is a thing.
Its kind of comical ( and sad) going to a republican fundraiser and listening to all the( pulled myself up by my bootstraps) pretentious stories as they try to out do each other of how tough their life was and the $500 dollars gets you in the door to compete with your story.
Granted, it is harder now days to pretend to be poor while laundering money from corporate welfare, farm subsidies, selling green cards to the Chinese and etc. Where’s the good ole days where rich could could rub your nose in their wealth and power and you were powerless. Some how it became acceptable in high society to be a malevolent turd and still leave us powerless.
Don’t worry Billie Sutton’s free meal attracted plenty of generous farmers, ranchers, local businessmen and many small town residents that would open up their checbooks. I am sure he raised a large amount of money from people of both parties. Sutton is a good candidate and their is no shame for supporting a candidate from another party. These little $1000.00 snob parties will raise a lot of money from few voters. I remember Daschle doing this years ago. This governor race will be close and fun to see how this turns out. It’s kind of a David vs. Goliath race. It might be high time for David (Sutton) to kick some a$$.
The creditors included Blue Stem Capital Partners, an investment company founded by former GOP Lt. Gov. Steve Kirby, who ran for governor in 2002.
Steve Kirby is how we got Rounds. What an interesting campaign it was too. We went into the weeds on a slug fest that beat hell out of Kirby and Mark Barnett so much so that Stan Adelstein tossed 30 grand into the mix and we got Rounds as the last man standing.
“However, the contest between Kirby and Barnett soon became very negative and dirty. Barnett attacked Kirby for not investing in companies based in South Dakota and for his involvement with Collagenesis, a company which removed skin from donated human cadavers and processed them for use. It became the subject of a massive scandal when it was revealed that the company was using the skins for much more lucrative cosmetic surgery like lip and penis enhancements while burn victims “lie waiting in hospitals as nurses scour the country for skin to cover their wounds, even though skin is in plentiful supply for plastic surgeons”.[7] Kirby invested in the company after the scandal broke and Barnett attacked him for it in television advertisements.[8] However, the advertisements backfired because “the claims were so outlandish, that people thought for sure that they were exaggerated or completely fabricated.”
Actually, there was truth in what was thought to be outlandish. So think of it this way with trump, the more the noose closes in on him with Russia and corruption, the more his base seems to think that these are outlandish lies, nothing could be further from the truth.
The Initiated Measure #22 was bad, it was bad. Besides being a sloppily written, unconstitutional pile of tripe hoodwinked over ignorant voters, it did ban free food.
Everybody likes free food. Even Mr. Sutton gives out free food. This blogging is all about his free food. However, when he hosts some fancy parties for $500 I expect we won’t see a blogging about that.
Did you get an invite for some fancy parties for 500 bucks Mr. grudznick? Do tell so we can chat about that. I think those may be just a fantasy of yours, kind of like smooching with Butina, From Russia with Love, listen and dream of the red head… without Comrade Dusty of course… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scTDEj0yYUQ
mike, this blog is full of “upper-class” haters day in and day out. If you needed Anne to say something you disagree with for you to think class warfare exists, you haven’t been paying attention.
Most of the rest of you generalize way too much in life. Most of Noem’s supporters support her because they actually believe what she says. They aren’t crooks and aren’t poor-people-haters, they were mostly just raised by republicans so they are republicans. Just like all you democrats. You were born with democrat parents and now you are a democrat. You didn’t choose to be like you are, you were groomed. Republicans didn’t choose to be republicans, either. They were raised that way. We were all groomed. If you really think all republicans are evil racist millionaires, you are ignorant and ignorance is the biggest problem in our country (not partisan politics).
But, since you all like to just be victims and not live in the real world, just sit there and complain about the “other side” while the “other side” sits and complains about you because neither side pays any real attention to anything except what somebody they trust told them. Voting democrat universally because somebody told you to is as dangerous and stupid as a stranger voting republican because somebody told them to.
Mr. jerry, I feel like $500 is on the low end for these fancy parties. Rest assured that no matter the donation level, grudznick would get his value worth of the sandwiches and beverages. I do often fantasize of sandwiches, and fried finger foods. I don’t like redheads, however, and find Dr. Boz to be far prettier and insaner than this Ms. Butina lady everybody seems all worked up about.
Here’s a fantasy for you, ‘though: grudznick being rolled about by my personal attendant Dr. Boz eating all the food I can jam in my maw at a Billie Sutton fundraiser held at the Journey Museum, with Mr. Stan as the platinum level host. Wait service provided by Gordon Howie and the Howites with food donated by Slick Rick and his fancy bistro.
Vance Goldammer is my brother-in-law’s brother. I’m disappointed in him.
