Dan Ahlers submitted his running-mate papers in time, and the man ready to debate Tony Venhuizen is former Democratic legislator Steven McCleerey.
McCleerey, a Sisseton farmer and SDSU ag alum, represented District 1 in the House for three terms, from 2015 through 2020. McCleerey’s Legislative service coincided with Ahlers’s last stint in the House during the 2017 and 2018 Sessions. McCleerey is also on the Coteau des Prairies Health Care Systems board and that hospital foundation’s governance committee.
Ahlers and McCleerey will hold a press event to publicly introduce the new candidate for Lieutenant Governor this morning at the Old Courthouse Museum in Sioux Falls.
Maddening and crazy-making! It’s as if the SDDP doesn’t even know that people West River vote!
Living in West River, I would prefer a running mate from around here. Maybe the thought is there’s more winnable votes on the eastern side.
This is now the male version of the Wismer/Tyler ticket. Only Mr. McCleerey is not as foaming angry as Ms. Tyler.
We could use some focused anger. Anger won Doeden the primary; if he hadn’t let that anger turn to wanton and ridiculous insults that offended his own Republican audience, he wouldn’t have lost votes in the runoff.
I generally find farmers who vote democrat to be more humble and far better informed than those who don’t. So, good at the job, poor at auditioning for it.
