Jensen/Nelson Ban Separate Bathrooms, Locker Rooms, and Pronouns with Anti-Trans Potshot

Some Republicans didn’t get the memo that Republicans were going to leave the gender war alone this year and wait for Governor Kristi or Ayatollah Marty to come let them impose Sharia for Jesus and behead transgender people (or at least not let them hit the head).

Senators Phil Jensen and Stace Nelson just can’t pass up a chance to kick those freaky people in the crotch—oh! and while they’re at it, trump local control. Senate Bill 160 would prohibit giving “instruction in gender identity or gender expression” to “any student in kindergarten through grade seven in any public school in the state.”

Good grief—someone’s been writing bills while reading Facebook again.

I have heard of no issues with instruction on gender identity or gender expression in South Dakota’s elementary or middle schools. Senators Jensen and Nelson don’t even define what they mean by “instruction in gender identity or gender expression” in their bill. It would appear that SB 160 would thus outlaw the following:

  • Signs labeling bathrooms “Boys” and “Girls”, since such signs clearly instruct children to identify two separate genders and to express their gender by expressing their waste in separate rooms.
  • Separate locker rooms for boys and girls in PE, since such rooms clearly instruct students that boys and girls are different.
  • Seating charts arranging kids boy-girl-boy-girl.
  • Separate class meetings for boys and girls to conduct lessons satisfying the state’s seventh-grade health education content standard encompassing healthy sexual activity.
  • Instruction or assistance to young girls experiencing menstruation, since such assistance would instruct those girls in a unique aspect of their gender identity not shared with boys.
  • Use of Mr., Mrs., Ms., or Miss as titles for teachers—to avoid gender distinction, all teachers will be referred to as “Teacher!” or “Comrade!”
  • Gender pronouns—no more he, she, him, her; all students, teachers, janitors, historical figures, and other humans will be called they and them.

Senator Jensen, would you care to amend or withdraw your motion, or would you like me to keep going?

Someone hand Jensen and Nelson the Family Heritage Alliance memo, please. We’re not doing the transgender war this year (but notice that it’s Republicans who keep wanting to fight it!). Just patch the budget and go home and campaign.

OK, I know your bullet point list is hyperbole, but I think schools would be better – kids would be better – if we did do some of the listed things.

It’s nice to know that Roger Hunt’s legacy of all things sexual lives on in the Republican party! They just can’t seem to stay out of people’s underwear.

    Happiest Days of Our Lives
Well, when we grew up and went to school,
    There were certain teachers,
Who would hurt the children in any way they could,
    By pouring their derision,
    Upon anything we did,
    Exposing every weakness,
However carefully hidden by the kids.

But in (but in) the town it was well known,
When they got home at night,
Their fat and psychopathic wives would thrash them,
    Within inches of their lives.

Swap out teachers with wingnuts and you have GI- gubmint intervention.

Didn’t Stacey hide out in a bathroom to avoid voting on some legislation?
He’s always using the chitter for political purposes.

I was wondering when the mean pubs were going to bring out their annual anti-LGBT Bill.
Come on Stace, stay away from racist
    Phil Jensen.

Once again, Mr Nelson and Mr Jensen, doing the work of providing a (gag) “solution” to a non-existent problem.

The state has revenue issues. Corruption. Infrastructure issues. Slave wages. Health care. Regressive taxation. Real, meaty issues that need people to roll up their sleeves and problem solve. But yeah, gender identity is the hill to climb. (face palm)

    Tax dollars, hard at work!

If people would just look for the urinal that fit them, instead of looking for gender or a certain type of underwear when they have to pee, everyone could have a proper peeing experience.

I just about spit out my coffee when I read “Ayatollah Marty”. That’s funny stuff.

We should probably let South Dakota regress even further back into the stone ages to set an even bigger better example of what a State should not do in the United States of America.

Why stop where we are today when we can go so far backwards that we one day barely resemble a State in the U.S. Maybe it would be better if the country looked at us and with such startling distain that it could prevent suburban Americans from identifying with our rural culture of isolation.

Can we just please vote this useless lumps of human flesh and flush them down the toilet? Is it me or are their feeble attempts at shoving their non issue discriminatory bills down South Dakotan’s throat a massive waste of taxpayer dollars and time? Wouldn’t it more effective to focus on bills that build up the states economy, the betterment of education, teacher pay, taxes, and things that really matter? Isn’t that in their job descriptions? I am a transgender South Dakotan, a leader in my community, and provide support, advocacy and education regarding transgender and gender non-conforming people in our state. There has never been an incident in the history of time where a transgender person has done anything wrong where restrooms and locker rooms are concerned. We do everything we can to draw as little attention to ourselves as possible. All we want is the same basic rights, equality, and justice that every human being deserves. We’re not monsters, we’re not freaks, and we’re not out to get you or your children. We just want to live our lives as authentically and true to ourselves as possible. I’m ashamed to live in McCook county where Stace Nelson represents. He avoids confrontation, and in my opinion, he’s a big mouth, bigoted, ass with nothing better to do than run around with his nose up the asses of the Family Heritage Alliance leaders. And I won’t even get started with Senators Jensen (shaking my head and rolling my eyes)

Adam, should we liberals, progressives, and other sensible South Dakotans make an Atlasian Shrug? Should we all move to the Black Hills, take over the local governments, and secede, allowing the rest of South Dakota to become the national example of Sharia for Jesus unchecked?
