I spoke in error Sunday. I said that Governor Dennis Daugaard, who is asking President-Elect Donald Trump to protect the federal government’s support for ethanol and other biofuels, is a member of Trump’s agricultural advisory committee. I should have said was.
Recall that, back in October, Governor Daugaard called on Trump to withdraw from the Presidential race following the release of Trump’s 2005 statements damningly proving that he’s a sexual predator. Dana Ferguson reports that Team Trump found Daugaard’s statement sufficiently objectionable to ask him to withdraw from the committee:
Trump named Daugaard to his agriculture advisory committee in August, but the campaign reconsidered after the governor’s public statement in October asking Trump to drop out of the presidential race. Daugaard’s comments came in response to the release of a 2005 video recording that showed Trump bragging about kissing and groping women.
“I was asked if I wanted to exit and I exited,” Daugaard told Argus Leader Media. “So they haven’t been asking me for my advice on ag lately” [Dana Ferguson, “Daugaard Left Trump’s Ag Group After Lewd Comments,” that Sioux Falls paper, 2016.12.12].
Hmm… it may take Trump longer to come visit South Dakota than it took President Obama… and I think Governor Daugaard won’t mind if Trump waits.
While I often (but not always) disagree with his politics, I think Governor Daugaard is basically a decent human being. And I really like the First Lady. I doubt that the Governor has any regrets about speaking up.
Yeah, the governor was for Trump before he was against him, but then is for him again.
A decent human being, would not cast his Dec 19th vote for this man. The evidence is overwhelming. But Dennis won’t let us down. He will do what is politically expedient……for him. He won’t put the state or the country first.
Daugaard is scared of the wrath of Trump.
I think Trump is large than life Janklow
Janklow was smarter than Trump… and while motivated by enormous ego also had some notion of public service.
Roger, I’m not sure Daugaard is scared. What does he have to be scared about? What could Trump do to him? What would Trump bother to do to anyone in South Dakota? He’s never been here, has no business interests here… what does he care about what happens here?
Don Trump DOES realize the only authentic, truthful and valued culture of South Dakota lies within it’s indigenous. It would be something if he worked to enforce the treaty of Laramie.
“Most important, our sovereign Indian Nations and territories must have the respect and freedom they deserve,” he said on Thursday in a statement about his pending nomination.
