ASBSD Targets Ten Republican Legislators for Weekend Lobbying to Back Governor’s Sales Tax Hike

The Mid-Central Educational Cooperative included discussion of House Bill 1182, the Governor’s sales tax increase for teacher pay, on its regular meeting agenda yesterday. Among the documents reviewed was this Legislative Action Network Alert from the Associated School Boards of South Dakota. Published after the Republican holding action against the bill on Wednesday, ASBSD sent out this alert, saying that it is “IMPERATIVE” to contact “key legislators” to ensure HB 1182 passes.

Here is the complete list of “key legislators” on the ASBSD alert Mid-Central posted, plus the school districts those legislators represent:

Reps. Craig, Heinemann, Marty, May, and Wiik stood for the Stalzer Stall on Wednesday. Reps. Conzet, Greenfield, Novstrup, Rounds, and Steinhauer did not. All ten are Republicans. Does their inclusion on the ASBSD list signal that these ten are on the fence on raising teacher pay and are crucial to moving the Governor’s plan forward?

Kristin Conzet must have changed her email address as it comes back as undeliverable.

These fellows are leaving their phones off the hooks this weekend and staying inside. Young Mr. Novstrup is going to get as much mail as the younger Novstrup.
