Iowa Bitcoiner Floats Proposal to Madison After Texas Data Centerers Bail

Last month, Texas-based Giga Energy bailed out of a plan to build a digital currency mining facility in Madison. Now Simple Mining from Cedar Falls, Iowa says they’re interested in coming to Madison and turning its electricity into fake money:

Matt Hein, Director of Energy and Site Development for Simple Mining, spoke with Madison City Commissioners on Monday, during their first regular meeting of the month. Hein said they would like to provide a service very similar to what Giga initially proposed, an interruptible service that can provide steady electricity usage.

…Simple Mining says their facility would start as an air cooled system, before transitioning to a quieter system [“City Leaders and Simple Mining Hold First Meeting, as the New Crypto Mining Group Looks to Come to Madison,” KJAM Radio, 2026.07.07].
