SD Republicans Sell Out to Trump

Oh yeah, and South Dakota Republicans have sold 6,000 tickets to hear a speech by a man who stands indicted of trying to overthrow the 2020 election, Congress, and the Constitution:

The political outliers who have such hate for the GOP threw their stones earlier this week. And what was the result?  Literally only one week later the biggest Republican Party rally in state history is already sold out. 1 week, and 6000 tickets are gone in a flash [Pat Powers, “Toxic Anti-GOP Far Right Left with Egg on Their Face as SDGOP Sells out Rapid City Trump Rally,” South Dakota War College, 2023.08.02].

Yes, the Republican Party has sold out all right.

    BAH on Mr. Trump. BAH!

Trump is attractive; no doubt. Want some better neural stimulation? Here’s the Colorado Speaker Series 2023.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Liz Cheney, Stacey Abrams, Bill Nye, Ambassador “Sully” Sullenberger, Captain Scott Kelly, and Dr. Robert Ballard.

If only Deadwood’s Al Swearingen were alive to see this! Thousands of delusional hoopleheads gathered at Rapid City to witness their hero, the greatest con artist in America and three times indicted and future felon Donald John Trump.

“Speak to us o Orange One and scratch our bellies, pleeeeease!”

And is that Joanie Stubbs up there on the dias with Donald. No! It’s our own self-appointed celebrity grifter, Governor and Miss Snow Queen 1990 Kristi Noem!

“Blow us a kiss, Governor Kristi!”

You can use your PPP loan to buy trump tickets. Some kind of mutual back scratch. Once again, see who’s who of your neighbors who padded their wallets on the deathbeds of those who paid the ultimate price. https://ppp-loan.info/location/SD

Everyone does live a good belly scratch. Even Mr. President Uncle Joe Biden.

I’ll stay home and watch some old Jordan Maxwell lecture. …. or will I? I hate to admit how often kertrumps mistake me for one of theirn and go into scripted complaints to me about the government giving free money to Natives or something else they think the government is doing to them. I usually tell them it’s because of checking male or female on their monster account so the government knows what an animal they are. Or sometimes flinch at them and laugh when they raise their arms to protect themselves. What the hell are we doing here, monsters? That corner is going to be like carrion.

I think your title is appropriate – “Republicans SELL OUT to trump “

  10. Arlo Blundt 2023-08-04 14:21

All time champion of mendacity and double speak, Bill Barr badmouthed Trump terribly on PBS and said, “I can’t see how the Republican Party can nominate Trump for President. ” South Dakota Republicans are out of the loop.

  11. Jerry Sanders 2023-08-04 15:18

Trump is a POS traitor and narcissist! He has ruined the Republican Party and most republicans don’t see past his lies and failures.

  12. P Meyer 2023-08-04 21:20

Pathetic! I am so ashamed of the GOP in SD… where have they parked their brains? To continue to support such a monster is anti-American. T wraps the flag around him and barks stupidities and they flock to hug him… why? Why? Why? The brain power of the supporters of such a monster has to be shriveled beyond belief. What has he done positive to improve conditions within SD? What has he done to give them a reason to follow him other than spit out lies and platitudes that are totally convoluted… wake up SD!!

  13. LCJ 2023-08-05 06:58

On the other hand, you couldn’t pay 6000 people in SD to see Biden.

  14. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2023-08-05 07:31

Now, LCJ, what evidence do you have that the President of the United States could not draw a crowd of 6,000 people in South Dakota? I’d happily line up to see Biden and shake his hand—and I wouldn’t be afraid to bring my wife and daughter along, since I know Biden, unlike Trump, wouldn’t feel entitled to grab their genitals.

As 96 says, Trump is a con man. The SDGOP has been conned.

  15. e platypus onion 2023-08-05 08:27

Biden could easily draw 6 grand in South Duhkota and 20k of them would be magats lying about both Biden and drumpf.

  16. LCJ 2023-08-05 13:29

Come on, Cory! Biden doesn’t attract more than a handful of people in the most orchestrated appearances ever seen in American politics.
The guy is done, just like the South Dakota Democrat Party.

You sound like Mike Round’s “death spiral” messaging for years!

You called me leslie liar. you are the problem. delusion.

Joe is after all getting old. He won’t last forever. But he saved this democracy’s ass despite you folks’ PUTIN NRA BILLIONAIRE insanity. Please do go and see Trump. Spewing hate toward Pelosi, Schiff and all the other intelligent elected rock stars leading this fettered constitutional democratic republic.

  19. Jake Kammerer 2023-08-05 15:13

LCJ-one part of your blather is correct: “Biden done”-but he has done more to undo the 4 yrs trump tried running our democracy and country into the dirt (making many$$$$ for him and family in process) and now today, people such as you succumb to his pleas for sympathy and money all day long and he continues conning a generous portion of America for only his $$$ purse.

Yep, he will get what’s coming to him but it sure isn’t the White House!!

  20. grudznick 2023-08-05 16:52

The Democrat Party in SD does seem to be in a world of hurt, as Mr. LCJ points out. grudznick worries about the futures of fellows, fine fellows, like the Messrs. Ahlers and Hunhoff, who served admirably in the past, and fellows like Senator Nesiba and Representative Duba, who struggle, shackled to a sinking ship, knowing they may float to the top of the mast before finally being pulled under, their eyes wide open and gazing upward at the surface of the ocean rising above them. Glurg. Glurg. Glurg.

  21. P. Aitch 2023-08-05 17:01

The South Dakota Democratic Party is a member of the USA Democratic Party and is thus many times more powerful than the South Dakota Republican Party. The SDGOP is simply a big carp in a very small puddle.

  22. larry kurtz 2023-08-05 17:08

Republican is simply another word for Earth hater.

  23. larry kurtz 2023-08-05 17:09

Meanwhile, one of the most hated and polarizing figures in South Dakota politics is throwing up his hands in desperation as Earth haters in his political party are preparing to burn down the Big Tent. At his scandal sheet, Dakota War College obese Brookings blogger Pat Powers routinely smears principled conservatives who don’t bend the knee to the South Dakota Republican Party establishment.

Pernicious Pug Powers, who makes a stopped clock look like a smooth-running timepiece, salts his blog comment section with a seemingly infinite variety of aliases that threaten or jeer his political enemies including those in his own party then wonders why the SDGOP is headed for a rapid unscheduled disassembly and now he wants to bridge the divide?

Powers is also a shill for Summit.

  24. LCJ 2023-08-05 20:26

You don’t even have a support structure in this state. You don’t even have a director or money or a plan to get the party off life support .
Your party in this state is doomed.
Nobody is going to have luck with JB
Who from SD is close enough to the DNP to ask the big guy to make a 3 hour speech?
Worst President ever. Wake up and smell Hunter’s meth.

Lar, I haven’t pointed this out to Mr. Pay, who would be irked beyond irking because of all the Democratic fellows who worked for Mr. Governor Janklow, but you might listen to this audio blogging. Mr. Pay would be well tuned to listen to it as well, but he has a really bad case of NDS.

@LCJ – I do not have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

  27. PWK 2023-08-05 22:26

Regarding the SD Democratic party it seems many folks have NO memory (or sense of context) extending beyond the past decade. Democrats have never held a majority of registered voters in this state – but SD voters (i.e., Republicans) elected and re-elected outstanding Democrat representatives and senators McGovern, Abourezk and Johnson. “Wild Bill” Janklow worked with all three and would disavow the arrogant and myopic minds that currently dominate both legislative chambers and the governor’s office.

  28. jerry 2023-08-06 02:57

“time or the crayons to explain this to you”damn, that is so true. This person and Mike Z, should get married.

This morning, at the Conservatives with Common Sense breakfasting, we will discuss the utter collapse of the Democrat Party of South Dakota, and the debates will center on if they should be replaced with a new, less radical version or just be absorbed into the Libertarian party.

  30. P. Aitch 2023-08-06 10:40

Labeling a group of bitter, old, white males as anything but what they are is just hiding your true intentions. Conservatives with Common Sense? That’s funny, grudz. lol Aitch is laughing. (*don’t steal from the buffet this time – pay your own way like we Democrat states do)

  31. Vi Kingman 2023-08-06 11:14

@LCJ. The worst President ever???? Biden led us through a pandemic despite Trump’s screwups. Inflation is coming down. Biden got a bipartisan infrastructure bill passed that even Republicans that voted against it are now taking credit for. Once again we are respected by our allies around the world after the four years of hell with Trump.
But I’ll be fair here LCJ. Please explain, without the snide remarks, on why Biden is the worst president ever.
    I’ll be waiting.

  32. jerry 2023-08-06 12:12

Ms. Kingman, here is why trumpers like LCJ still want to use an outhouse to do their business so they can talk to themselves. President Biden, Dark Biden or whomever bozoheads like LCJ want to call him, has done for our state of South Dakota https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/South-Dakota-BIL-State-Fact-Sheet.pdf

LCJ should be asked about trumps “infrastructure week” for 4 years of crookery. trumpers are all the same, dumb as dirt.

  33. Bonnie B Fairbank 2023-08-06 12:23

grudz, the collapse of the Democratic party in this primitive and hidebound state is because of the hostile, childish, and dangerous behavior of Reptilians. I’ve mentioned before I had Biden/Harris 2020 bumperstickers on my truck.

I was ambushed from behind by an enormous woman who saw my stickers in the Lynn’s Dakota parking lot and strangled by my hoodie strings; I fought her off with a sharpened flatbar.

I was accosted by a Sam Elliot wannabe that obscenely demanded I pay for his gasoline because of my bumperstickers, and he followed me to the Hot Springs Public Library, honking, calling me a c*nt, and tailgating. I ran HIM off with a crowbar.

A True Reptilian Patriot beat in my front bumper with a softball bat at Albany and S. Chicago, and an employee of the store at that intersection just watched. He knew I was in the store, but did nothing.

I don’t know if Hot Springs is just “special” but I’ve had four people quietly tell me they liked my bumperstickers but weren’t brave (or dumb) enough to display them personally. So, by all means, rejoice YOUR PEOPLE can assault and threaten Democrats with impunity in YOUR South Dakota.

  34. jerry 2023-08-06 12:34

Hot Springs exists only for the grift. It’s a beautiful place that is soulless. Without government spending, Hot Springs would be Polo.

  35. Vi Kingman 2023-08-06 12:35

Jerry I agree with you. LCJ won’t respond.
Oh and I’m a dude. lol

  36. P. Aitch 2023-08-06 12:39

Those are sad stories, Bonnie. You’re living “rent free” in the heads of people who are truly embarrassed by their support of Donald Trump. They’re triggered by your pointing out what bad decisions they’ve made. I’m proud of you for being the person you are while living in such a hostile environment. I left the hills over 50 years ago and will never forget the day I became a resident of Colorado. It was like a load had been lifted and my boots weren’t mired in feces anymore. I know you’ve lived here before and moved back to Hot Springs. You’re a strong one, Ms. Fairbank.

  37. 96Tears 2023-08-06 13:03

Damage done to the South Dakota Democratic Party is largely due to the loss of The Greatest Generation voters who remember living through the Great Depression, WWII and the post-WWII era that saw a boom in South Dakota, particularly the rural areas that got rural electrification through (socialist?) cooperatives and saw veterans go to college on the GI Bill and buy homes and raise families, all because of FDR’s programs to rescue and rebuild our economy. Voters knew who were their friends and who stood against progress, which is why they elected Democrats to Congress and let Dick Kneip have a chance at resurrecting the sloppy and dysfunctional state agencies and streamline it through reorganization. The Kneip legacy points to the greatest progress in statewide governance as any other governor in state history.

And then somebody thought an income tax would be a great idea. Republicans very smartly turned it into a weapon and took back all of the gains and more from Democrats in state governance. Of course, this happened in the great Republican tide elections of 1978 and 1980. I don’t think the old guard Dems ever got over being tossed out of the saddle. They were stuck in their golden era way of thinking and didn’t know how to fight back. Yes, the Dems did find ways to hold out against a more aggressive and unified Republican Party in South Dakota, but in the last 20-plus years, they’ve demonstrated very little will to win.

There is always a pathway to winning. Massive self-inflicted gaffes among national Republicans and especially the current crop in Pierre since Kristi Noem became governor are frequent, yet they seem to be ignored as opportunities. And now, this. The collapse in only two months of a new chair and a new executive director who may know a thing or two about winning.

We don’t need people like LCJ or grudz to kick around the state Democrat party. Democrats have done a good job of remaining inert without the vitriol.

  39. grudznick 2023-08-06 13:23

The Democrat party has done themselves in, Ms. Fairbank. It’s almost as if they beat themselves daily with a sharpened flatbar. That you have to carry crowbars and other prison tools to protect yourself in Hot Springs, SD, a place once known as Happyville is surprising to grudznick. I have never, outside of some table pounding by my good friend Bob, had any bad experiences there.

But it is good you are armed with your crowbars and bumper stickers.

  40. larry kurtz 2023-08-06 13:29

It’s important to remember that in 1997 South Dakota got $23 million for going without Amtrak service so then-Gov. Bill Janklow funneled much of it into the Governor’s Club.

  41. Arlo Blundt 2023-08-06 13:40

Bonnie—I have a ” Black Lives Matter” yard sign up on my lawn in a small town in Wisconsin and, other than compliments, I’ve heard nothing but positive comments. The Town is about 50-50, in politics, with Trumpers taking over the Town Board, but have never had anything uncivil happen, other than the fellas in big trucks with Trump flags laying rubber on Main Street on election day. There is a sign up that says “2024 America’s Last Stand” with a picture of Trump. The fella with 26 Trump Flags and signs on his property has finally taken them down.

  42. grudznick 2023-08-06 13:43

Ms. Fairbank, have you been to any of those parties out at Bonnie Rock’s old house and if so were the people there mean to you or nice?

Recall the slush fund called the Governors Club: Hani Shafai appears with Doyle Estes, who donated polluted swamp land for a soccer complex. Also appearing on that list is Roger Tellinghuisen, a Republican former attorney general.

Richard Benda, the now-dead GOP apparatchik, appears on at least one list with Shafai. Shafai, a Future Fund recipient, gives generously to Earth haters like Mrs. Noem.

South Dakota’s Governor Rounds showered $75 million in Future Fund cash on campaign donors without disclosing who they were.

So, fast forward to Bendagate player, Jeff Sveen, also a Future Fund recipient, Daugaard donor, and lawyer for Joop Bollen, telling a legislative panel to go fuc# themselves.

Future fund recipients, Kathryn Johnson, an erstwhile member of the Board of Regents implicated in the EB-5/Bendagate scandal, and her husband, prominent Rapid City attorney, Doyle Estes, each gave South Dakota’s current governor $4000 this election cycle.

The SDGOP is flush with cash because they screw the little guys and get fat on the proceeds.

  44. larry kurtz 2023-08-06 14:07

The Governor’s Club has been a discrete part of political fundraising in South Dakota for more than 30 years. For a $1,000 donation, contributors buy a place at the table – and a position of potential influence – with South Dakota’s governor at club events that are not open to the general public. Gov. Mike Rounds refused a Journal interview request for this story. Former Gov. Bill Janklow split the club proceeds with the party.

  47. P. Aitch 2023-08-06 16:07

There has not been a situation as appalling as that awful one present in America that prompted lifelong Republicans to flip and vote for the liberal Dick Kneip.
Let’s collectively hope such a situation never arises again. We liberals will sacrifice South Dakota to the dark side instead of enduring such a deadly travesty again.
I’m speaking of course of the federal government taking teenage males against their will to be sent to kill strangers in a jungle in Southeast Asia.

  48. jerry 2023-08-06 16:25

@Vi Kingman, a thousand pardons my friend.

  49. 96Tears 2023-08-06 18:19

I suspected that grudz, a leaned individual with apparent experience in campaigns of the past, would volley back with the fact that the Governor’s Club was actually invented by Democrats during the Kneip Administration. Correctamundo, Senor Grudz.

In a discussion several years ago in Huron, the late Governor Harvey Wollman explained that the state Democrat Party executive director at that time came up with the idea late in Kneip’s last term to raise funds to finance out-of-state economic development trips. Democrats had lost control of the legislature and Republicans refused to allocate travel funds for the governor to lure businesses to move to South Dakota. Why? Petty revenge politics.

A couple years later, the Governor’s Club changed hands and the SDGOP administered it in cooperation with GOP administrations. It morphed into an unaccountable high ticket slush fund whose sources were lobbyists, contractors, CEOs, law offices and others to curry access to the administrations. Because of the state’s loose campaign reporting laws, contributors could empty their pockets at events with no accountability and money could be spent with little or zero accountability. They call that “bundling” and it offers the wealthy and powerful unlimited opportunities to keep bankrolling the SDGOP power elites. It also allows the power elites to create sweetheart deals to fill the pockets of the contributors10-fold and more. In Pierre, it’s doin’ bid’ness.

Yes. Democrats in the last couple years of Kneip’s administration invented it as a tool to do the state’s business. Since Janklow I, the Republicans have turned it into a fine art of reciprocal back scratching.
