Buttigieg Wants to Fix Roads and Bridges, Not Waste Time on Culture War

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg doesn’t want to waste time fighting GOP culture war; he just wants to build roads and bridges:

“When I’m out in Wheeling, West Virginia or Pittsburgh at the airport or anywhere else, the questions are not about beer bottles or drag queens. The questions are about making sure that we can deliver these transportation assets that people can count on,” he said. “It is maddening sometimes to look at the split screen on cable TV, and I’m trying to make sure people are aware of the literally tens of thousands of good projects we’ve already supported around the country.”

…Buttigieg says the political rhetoric focused on culture wars has ultimately eclipsed other major issues, including the annual funding measure for his agency and others that must pass to avert a government shutdown.

“We need to do two things and it should not be hard to do. One is to safeguard vulnerable groups as a matter of policy, which is something we believe in as administration and is the right thing to do, and another is to keep doing the work of taking care of the basics,” he said [Claudia Grisales, “After Hill Funding Fight, Buttigieg Calls Culture Wars, Drag Show Focus ‘Maddening’,” NPR, 2023.07.20].

Among Secretary Buttigieg’s practical successes: the Department of Transportation’s swift release of $3 million in emergency aid last month helped get traffic flowing across the collapsed section of I-95 in Philadelphia in 12 days.

It’s not in President Biden’s rail plan but if someday Amtrak connects the Southwest Chief at Pueblo or Trinidad, Colorado to the Empire Builder at Shelby, Montana through Denver and Cheyenne there might be a depot at Edgemont, South Dakota.

Biden administration is getting things done.

Trump administration promised to, complained, criticized, and labeled itself a victim because we noticed and spoke up.

There is a truly enormous project underway in Duluth Minnesota replacing miles of elevated freeway and two long bridges where the St. Louis River enters Lake Superior. The original project was built in the late fifties and sixties and structural problems caused by the nearly constant inclement weather necessitates complete replacement. Awesome to see being built, it will take up to five years. It is one of the “big things” Biden has promised and is delivering.

Oh, but young Pete’s gay, and old Joe has a drug addicted son, young Kamala has a weird name and is an uppity black and is a woman; and let’s not forgive lifetime catastrophic college debt today because you repaid your $300 per semester high-ed tuition back in the day. Fair is fair. And get over slavery and tribal genocide. Don’t bring up the uncomfortable.

    Could Republicans be any stupider?

I know, deny vaccines during a pandemic and global warming before it is too late. And call justice for treasonous criminals a witch hunt, a hoax, and weaponization of the system.

So, i don’t think “libbies w/fat wallets” (as the sound byte goes), flock to the rally. They are not stupid. Sound bytes like DEMOCRAT DEATH SPIRAL (Rounds), DEATH PANEL (Palin), are about all Republicans are good at. Morons.

Boy Leslie, did you ever “hit THAT nail squarely on the head”! Truer words never spoken, ma’am.

and Leslie, “Libbies” with fat wallets don’t drop their extra $$$ in Sturgis (and fatten grudzie’s wallet)- they use them to donate back to the “red states” like South Dakota that remain on the government’s donor list of socialist getting $$ to keep them operating!
