Rallies Friday and Sunday in Sioux Falls to Support Ukraine

There appear to be plenty of other South Dakotans who’d like our state to do more to support Ukraine and halt Putin’s war machine. Sioux Falls activist Andy Sivertson is organizing a rally in downtown Sioux Falls tomorrow—Friday!—at 1 p.m. at Lyon Park, at 14th and Phillips*. Sivertson wants South Dakotans to demonstrate to the South Dakota Legislature that we want change sin our trust laws to provide more transparency and to prevent Russian oligarchs and unsavory characters from hiding their ill-gotten gains in South Dakota. When Ukrainians are putting their bodies in front of tanks, Sivertson says we can at least put our bodies and voices in a protest.

South Dakota Voices for Peace is also holding a vigil on Sunday at 2 p.m. to show support for Ukraine. Everyone who loves Ukraine and peace is invited to gather outside the First Congregational Church of Sioux Falls at 11th and Minnesota to show support for the Sioux Falls Ukrainian community and their family members back home facing the Russian invasion.

*Update 15:00 CST: Friday’s rally has moved! The new location is Lyon Park at 14th and Phillips. Andy originally wanted folks to gather near the federal courthouse just up the street on Phillips, but permits, etc. Friday at 1, Lyon Park. Lyon Park!

And heck, the park will fit more people. Just shout a little louder, and the trust lawyers up the street will still be able to hear you!

From their lips to God’s ear. “Today, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland announced the launch of Task Force KleptoCapture, an interagency law enforcement task force dedicated to enforcing the sweeping sanctions, export restrictions, and economic countermeasures that the United States has imposed, along with allies and partners, in response to Russia’s unprovoked military invasion of Ukraine. Task Force KleptoCapture will ensure the full effect of these actions, which have been designed to isolate Russia from global markets and impose serious costs for this unjustified act of war, by targeting the crimes of Russian officials, government-aligned elites, and those who aid or conceal their unlawful conduct.”https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/attorney-general-merrick-b-garland-announces-launch-task-force-kleptocapture

Let’s see how our outlaws react to losing a big source of their campaign dirty money.

Two likely big US industries for oligarch money laundering are: real estate and trusts.
Let’s hope AG Garland cracks open the SD trusts to ferret out and seize Russian assets.

“Lesson of the last few years (& yes, all of human history) is that trying to shame the shameless, condemn the amorality of the amoral, & speak to the conscience of the conscienceless is not just pointless, it plays into their hands. They can’t be lectured, they must be defeated.”

A-Butt from Texas will likely and gladly send some of his demoralized Nat Guard troops from the border to abuse protesters in Soo Falls. Six Guardsmen have died since October, four from suicides because there is no clear mission for them to do.

I suspect spare pigs from North Dakota could teach Soo Falls cops how to abuse peaceful protesters as well.

Putin will declare martial law to prevent the middle class and their money from leaving Russia. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/03/02/russia-flights-flee-escape-middle-class-citizens-vladimir-putin/

Also, Germany has impounded/seized an $800,000,000.00 mega yacht from some sanctioned dude that probably has a stash right here in South Dakota. Don’t we have any law here? Where is Miller and Thom? Tell them that some pot is stashed there and maybe that will raise an alarm that some Native dude has dropped off.

I’m very pleased that the people of Sioux Falls are organizing these demonstrations of support for the people of Ukraine. It is time our state government made clear where they stand versus Putin who will turn the Ukraine to rubble to conquer its courageous people. Where is Governor Noem??? All we’ve heard is a statement from her minion Ian Fury that South Dakota is open for business by Russian Oligarchs and will not interfere with the confidentiality of their trusts and accounts in our banks. Governor Noem has placed the State of South Dakota as an ally of Putin in his muderous campaign.

It’s not just the people of Ukraine, its Democracy vs Dictatorship. I know, Putin is a small dick tator, Russia is the gas station at the corner. Let’s get away from gas, their economy is duking it out with South Korea for 11th largest GDP, let’s lead the world and put them down by Hungary say 55th and Putin can Duke it out with Orban to see who size matters.

Dirty Johnson voted no to support US veterans. What a little Russian he is. Dude has no shame man. Crooks and liars like Dirty like to whisper sweet nothings in the ear of the military when they’re spending millions in the state, but could give a rat’s arse about their fate if they get sick. American Fast food lives there man “But not everyone is out. KFC and McDonald’s have nearly 1,900 outlets still operating across Russia. While those fast food providers seem to be worried about becoming targets of anti-American sentiment in Russia, they don’t seem to be interested in closing their doors. They’re not alone. As of Friday morning, Burger King, Subway, Papa John’s, and Domino’s were also continuing to operate outlets in Russia.

McDonald’s alone raked in $2.1 billion in Russia and Ukraine last ye ar, accounting for 9% of total revenue. The one thing McDonald’s doesn’t seem to be doing, is thinking about depriving Moscow of Big Macs.”

  12. Arlo Blundt 2022-03-04 16:44

Well. the fast food firms still operating in Russia need to be boycotted in the US. It is the patriotic thing to do.

As Ukrainians are fleeing from or dying in their homes; SD law makers will soon be returning to theirs. Is it not fair to ask them, what did you do to freeze Putin’s blood money in our state? Will you help or hinder US Attorney General Merrick Garlands investigation into Putin’s assets being held in the United States?
