Police Enjoy Better Working Conditions in Minnesota, Washington, California; South Dakota Promises Pay Cuts for Cops

Some of the workers causing South Dakota’s housing crunch are the white-flight cops our Governor has been recruiting. But a WalletHub analysis indicates that South Dakota doesn’t support police better than the largely Democratic states from which we are trying to recruit refugee cops.

As usual, WalletHub crunches a lot of numbers:

Cities were scored on three main dimensions: opportunity and competition, law enforcement training requirements and job hazards and protections, which were then broken down into 30 metrics, such as officers per capita, average starting salary, training hours required, education requirements, misconduct confidentiality, body camera legislation, lethal force allowance, deaths per 1,000 officers, police killings per capita, crime rate, road safety and more. Each of the 30 metrics were assigned a value based upon a 100-point system to distribute scores evenly among the three main dimensions. A score of 100 points represents the most favorable conditions for police officers [Zoe Manzanetti, “Which States Are Best for Law Enforcement Careers?Governing, 2021.05.14].

Those numbers suggest that the boys in blue fare better in Blue startes:

Overall, Democratic states ranked more positively than Republican ones. Nine of the 10 best states to pursue a law enforcement career voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, while eight of the 10 worst states voted for Donald Trump. Democratic states also ranked higher in categories such as median income for law enforcement officers, state and local police protection expenses per capita and most law enforcement officers per capita. However, Ohio, Arkansas and Iowa were ranked the third through fifth best states for median income growth for law enforcement officers, only coming in behind Vermont and Maryland, and the five states with the highest percentage of homicide cases solved were all Republican [Manzanetti, 2021.05.14].

South Dakota doesn’t come badly in the WalletHub analysis: we rank 20th overall, the second-best ranking in our septa-state region. If Seattle police really feel like moving to the Plains to coppalate, they’d be better off in Minnesota, which ranks 10th.

Refugee cops eyeing South Dakota for white flight may find themselves struggling to compete for housing in our overheated market. On WalletHub’s submetric of “opportunity and competition,” which includes starting salary, median income, and median income growth, South Dakota cops rank 45th in the nation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data used by WalletHub, cops moving to South Dakota from most of the rest of the country can expect to take a steep pay cut:

Beauty is only skin deep because everything else about her sucks.

She could charge for the pictures it wouldn’t be prostitution, even with sucking.

“But who needs better pay when you have a pretty Governor to pose for pictures with?”

Nothing like law enforcement at one’s command to shore up those phallic aspirations.

Wer need to have a discussion on why I am not enamored with foolish passion over Northern Mississippi’s alleged good looking guv. On a scale of 1-2 she rates a minus 459.67F and that is on a good day. I can imagine Grudzilla being way better looking, and that is faint praise.

As dapper as I may dress, and as well coiffed as I may sometimes be, grudznick is a fellow who is hard on the eyes but who melts your heart, Mr. mike, even for an Iowegian like yourself.

Well…goodness, fellas, how the Governor looks has nothing to do with her policies or politics. She’s nearly 50 years old, has three adult children, and a little discretion is in order. I know the argument that she has a “look, and nothing else, but we should refrain from comments about her we would not think of attributing to a male. We are starting to sound like the old timers who used to sit on the stoop of the hotel in my hometown, and comment on each passing woman.

It is indeed humorous, Mr. Blundt, when the libbies on this blogging engage in the very behaviors grudznick used to be accused of when it came to that very young Dr. Boz, or the insanest of them all, Ms. Hubbel.

Totally agree with Arlo. Just stop.

No apologies here, I was sure I nicked Grudzilla’s looks as well as all hat and no cattle Noem Noithing. NN is in the news again, she will be sharing her fauxknee kristian bonafides as main speaker to a group of fauxknee kristian iowa magats in July and another engagement later on in an East Coast state. She is polishing up her speaking skills in anticipation of 2024 potus election she claims not to be interested in.

Sorry for the way off soiree.

I agree with Arlo. There’s plenty of policy related issues to go after Noem for. If nothing else, making comments about her looks makes one look hypocritical because we wouldn’t accept it from the right.

My final word on this subject in this post is a certain poster from magatland has a habit of commenting on the alleged good looks of women magat pols and I felt the need to counterbalance Grudzilla’s poor taste with my dissenting views.

If that makes me a pariah, I will wear that label proudly.
