During Wednesday’s COVID briefing, State Epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton gave an update on the flu in South Dakota. He says so far this season there have been 45 influenza cases in South Dakota with 7 people hospitalized and 2 deaths due to the flu.
“This same time last year, we’d had already seen around 7,600 cases, 270 hospitalizations and 12 deaths from influenza. And so again when I say it is a very mild season it definitely has been a-typical so far,” Clayton said [“COVID-19 Precautions Are Helping Cut Down on Cases of the Flu,” KELO-TV, 2021.02.24].
Lots of South Dakotans wear masks and stay clear of each other, and our flu infections drop 99.4%.
Lesson #1: Masks work. Social distancing works.
Lesson #2: Even with these effective anti-contagion measures adopted by a sizable proportion of the population, coronavirus is much more virulent than the flu, and not enough people have adopted healthy measures to check this more potent pathogen. Imagine how much better things would be, how many more South Dakotans would still be alive and healthy, if we had a sensible governor more interested in public health than in building her political brand with reckless contrarian posturing. And imagine how much more damage the pandemic would be doing if we all had embraced our Governor’s bad example and done nothing to fight this very real pandemic.
Why would you expect any freedom loving Republican to wear a mask? They have never been interested in saving lives, never will be. Just wear a mask, social distance and let them infect mostly each other. Be reality based.
We all know Republicans like to save “embryo” lives. It’s once they are born, they don’t give a damn.

The reason I think that the people running the scam aren’t too bright .. is that you just need to look at a credible number for flu tests administered.
Are they down?
Is everyone who is given a (false) positive covid test (the inventor of the test agrees) also given a flu test?

New study by the CDC…. about 1/3 of those that contact Coronavirus-19 will have lifetime health impairment. So go ahead and skip wearing a mask if you like to gamble…include your family, friends, co-workers, and those that provide daily services to you, in the list of those you sacrificed.
