Iowa Governor Imposes New Mask Requirements for November Social Gatherings

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds shows she’s able to change her mind and do what’s right for public health. On Tuesday, she told Iowans they need to mask up at big social gatherings for the rest of November:

Reynolds, who has long resisted calls from health professionals to issue a statewide mask mandate, pointed to the rising community spread in the state, where the number of cases has begun to put a strain on the hospital system.

…The new proclamation, which is effective 12:01 a.m. Wednesday through 11:59 p.m. Nov. 30, sets out new restrictions on gatherings of various sizes, including mask mandates for larger groups.

Indoor social, community, recreational, leisure or sporting events of more than 25 people or outside events of 100 people are banned, unless all attendees over the age of 2 wear masks.

Additionally, all events with more than 10 people must ensure 6 feet of social distancing between groups and take other precautions.

And at any gathering, groups of people attending these events can be no larger than eight people, with an exception for members of the same household

For youth and high school sporting events, if more than 25 people are at an indoor event, all spectators over 2 must wear masks and keep 6 feet between other spectators. Athletes are not required to wear masks.

Each youth athlete can have only two spectators. That two-person spectator limit does not apply to the high school football playoffs, Reynolds’ spokesperson, Pat Garrett, clarified Tuesday afternoon, but all those spectators must wear masks.

The mask requirements do not apply to schools and churches, nor do they apply to the Iowa Legislature when it reconvenes in January [Nick Coltrain and Ian Richardson, “Gov. Kim Reynolds Requires Iowans to Wear Masks at Large Gatherings to Thwart Spread of the Coronavirus,” Des Moines Register, 2020.11.10].

The New York Times shows Iowa has the third worst daily average of new coronavirus cases over the past week, 141 cases per 100,000. South Dakota is at 143.8; North Dakota is at 170.1. South Dakota is taking no action comparable to Iowa’s, because South Dakota’s Governor and other political leaders don’t give half the damn about your life and health that Governor Kim Reynolds does.

Finally, the Loo. and now this, “It’s week 34 since millions of Americans began filing for unemployment insurance benefits because of the pandemic-induced economic lockdown. According to the Department of Labor, for the week ending Saturday, Nov. 7, 1 million more filed initial claims for benefits—709,000 for regular state UI programs, 298,154 for the federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program that covers free lancers and other workers ineligible for the regular benefits.”

Another million without a job. At least the Iowa governor seems to be coming to grips with this (after the election) to try to help control the trump virus that she has helped be problematic. “

It looks like Kristi Noem’s buddy…Corey Lewandowski… has COVID. Was he hanging around her this week? I actually thought I saw him in Sioux Falls shortly after the election.

Jogging on the bike trail. I don’t know if he is a jogger but the guy looked like Corey Lewandowski.

Reactionary – not proactive/preventive. Horse out of the barn – door closers. Great illustration of “conservative” vs liberal mindset.

drumpf/Noem Nothing body count hit more milestones today on its way to the stratosphere

    United States
    Coronavirus Cases:

Kristi said that she has not seen Corey Lewandowski for almost two weeks. OK.

She sure doesn’t need him to spread the virus across South Dakota. Kristi and her policies are doing a good job of that whether he is around or not.

Mr. james, if Mr. Lewandowski was jogging around the bike trails of Sioux Falls he was out of the doors and getting plenty of free-moving Sioux River stenched air to blow the covid bugs away from any others on the path. It is OK to go outside and jog, they tell grudznick, who does not jog.
