You don’t need to have symptoms or close contact with a confirmed case to come for a test; if you want a test, you can come get one. Register online to make an appointment and print the testing voucher the test site folks will ask to see; the state says folks can come without making appointments, but they’ll only get tests if there are empty time slots.

The state says the South Dakota Department of Health, National Guard, and Office of Emergency Management are involved, but Uncle Sam is paying for this testing. The whole program appears to be coordinated by lucky Texas middleman and federal contractor eTrueNorth.

In addition to the ten pop-up testing sites announced yesterday, eTrueNorth’s website lists testing available at the Hy-Vee pharmacies in Watertown, Brookings, Sioux Falls, Vermillion, and Yankton for some limited morning hours today, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Remember the old adage”better late than never”. I don’t believe it applies in this case as we are eight months late which has caused many people to die. As for Noem, if you are reading this, I said PEOPLE. By definition kristi, “men, women, children” I have no doubt, the horse gets better treatment that SD constituents.

  2. Right, cibvet. This testing could have been deployed sooner. Far more testing could be deployed, if the state were willing to invest more resources in pandemic response. But keep in mind, the state has not spent one extra penny of its own money on this crisis: unless I’m mistaken, the only additional investment we’ve made has been entirely on the federal dime.

Meanwhile next door in Wyoming, they also FAILED leadership and planning for the future. The Wyoming state budget is cratering. A county seat is on the verge of defunding its police force it can no longer afford. The governor warns that the state may have to abandon small towns because they can no longer afford to operate or maintain their sewers and streets.
