September Sales Tax Receipts up 7.9% from Sep 2019, Beating Legislative Projections

But hey, let’s not let little things like elected officials refusing to speak to the local media and killing people with their cars wear holes in our positive pants; we’re making all sorts of money on sales tax!

The pre-coronavirus Legislature predicted we’d crack $100 million in sales tax revenues in September; we almost made $106 million. Yay, us—consume, citizen! Buy like there’s no tomorrow!

Interestingly, it appears we are smoking more than last year—tobacco tax revenues up 14% from last September—but drinking less—beverage tax revenues down 26.5%. But hooch dealers must be anticipating an upswing in swilling shortly: receipts from the alcohol 2% wholesale tax jumped 146% over last September.

For the whole first quarter of the Fiscal Year 2021, we’ve raked in $36.3 million more in sales tax and $64.0 million more overall in the general fund than the Legislature targeted.

If the dough keeps rolling in, the Governor may be able to build herself fences and video studios in every city the state!

This needs to be the issue the Governor (and the legislature) uses to show that they did take the correct approach of hands-off and not shutting down: it saved SD’s economy.

Next, for that to mean something, those tax revenues need to be put to good use for the citizens of the state. If we sacrificed safety and health for tax revenues, we had better enjoy those revenues and not feel like strong revenues made us no better off.

Does Lewandowski need to charge sales tax if he’s showing off Kristi’s positive pants in the boys bathroom for $1 a view?

Oh, Mr. o, do not put it past those in the sneaky legislatures to have sandbagged knowing this would let them pack their fat reserve accounts to then pick out the cherries for their pet projects. They are very, very sneaky indeed.

Gov needed to go out of state to hire Maggie Seidel, Chief of ? And Ian Fury , comjunications, from Congressman J Jordan’s office, they have great backgrounds, any wonder Seidel can talk like she did to KELO?? Gov just wants to talk to Fox and F and not to SD media, Run around country for Trump, no problems in SD!!)-

This reflects inflation, devaluation of the dollar, increase in prices after pumbing trillions into the economy via the printing press, not a real difference in spending.

People are stocking up on food and other supplies. People know what is coming will not be good.

I can not remember the source, but weekly sales of groceries has been on the rise when you look at sales on a week to week basis.

On the one hand, lives. On the other hand, money.

Lives money.🤔 Lives money. 🤔 So hard for some to decide. 🤔🤔🤔

Kruel Kristi has made her call.

1.3 million more file for unemployment this week. https://www.dol.gov/ui/data.pdf
So there should be plenty of reasons and ability to vote early.

This is also an indication that we are NOT “all in this together.” More and more, catastrophe hits the most vulnerable and becomes a cash grab for the wealthy. I think there is some reflection of this in these numbers: some folks are doing well during (because of ?) the pandemic. “Our businesses are hurting” is not the blanket statement warranting help to all business for their suffering during the pandemic.

Republicans like EB5 Rounds and Vlad Thune know full well that chubby is gonna lose so they will now get that austerity thingy going again for Biden. I don’t think it will work this time as there are just way too many people without jobs and without food. We shall see. McConnell gives away the game with his sardonic giggle in the debate in Kentucky.

From WAPO… U.S. budget deficit breached $3.1 trillion in 2020 as pandemic slammed economy.

Isn’t disappearing as drumpf claimed it would. Debt has not gone away, either. drumpf lied.

8 million Americans have fallen into poverty this year. How’s that for the Economic Oaf/GOP economy.
    NY Times
    is.gd/WKRoTc

8 million. Let’s see. That would be every single person in SD, ND, WY, RI, AK, and MN. Every single person in 6 states = the number of Americans who have become poverty stricken just in 2020.

But Moscow Mitch, Economic Oaf and the GOP as a whole aren’t interested in helping those 8 million additional Americans. They’re totally focused on creating a SCOTUS so partisan it will keep their criminal a$$es out of prison.

Let all the sick, hungry, poor, cold Americans suffer. The trump cult truly Does. Not. Care. About. You.

(Don’t forget Kruel Kristi, Thune, Marion and Dusty are willing card carrying members of that cult.)
