New York Adds South Dakota to Travel Quarantine List

New Yorkers hanging out at Sturgis this week will need to quarantine when they get home. Governor Andrew Cuomo added South Dakota to its travel advisory list today, saying our failure to contain coronavirus could send New York straight back to hell:

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that two additional states and Virgin Islands meet the metrics to qualify for the travel advisory requiring individuals who have traveled to New York from those areas, all of which have significant community spread, to quarantine for 14 days. The newly-added states are Hawaii and South Dakota. Alaska, New Mexico, Ohio, Rhode Island and Washington have been removed. The quarantine applies to any person arriving from an area with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a 7-day rolling average or an area with a 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.

“New York went from one of the worst situations in the country, to an example for the rest of the nation to follow,” Governor Cuomo said. “Our numbers continue to remain low and steady, which shows this virus will respond to an approach based on science, not politics. In order to protect this progress, we must keep up our efforts – we cannot go back to the hell we experienced a few months ago, which is why we are adding Hawaii, South Dakota and Virgin Islands to the travel advisory” [Office of the Governor of New York, press release, 2020.08.11].

We’re just above that seven-day rolling average of 10 new cases per 100,000 people per day. Our test positivity rate over the last seven days is 7.3%. Yesterday in New York, only 0.86% of coroanvirus tests came up positive.

But let’s be Positive™: instead of riding back to New York just to be cooped up for two weeks, why don’t you bikers all just stick around South Dakota until New York lifts its ban? You could see the state! Governor Kristi Noem has two great backyards for camping: one in Pierre with easy lake access, and one right off Highway 81 in Hamlin County! Load up your coolers, pitch your tents, and enjoy your Freedom™!

How would they know if they had been to South Dakota?

  2. Owen 2020-08-11 13:32

    Noem will lose it

I wish Gov Walz would do this. There are a lot of Minnesotans that go to Sturgis.

Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and the rest of the Big Ten say No Soup Today as they pull the plug on their football season due to the trump virus.

Damn boys, we are gonna be watching cribbage on the tee vee this fall. Thanks to the trump virus, the only thing we can do is vote the bum out. Why not take his little short bumbling senate jockstrap, EB5 Short Rounds with the toss out.

There is a reason football was cancelled and it has to do with drumpf’s body count hoax pandemic. Still claiming victims which drumpf doesn’t bother to talk about. Furthermore, kids with the disease that drumpf says they can’t get have increased by 147% in the past few weeks.

    United States
    Coronavirus Cases:
    5,294,040
    Deaths:
    167,296

Likely surpass 5.3 million cases today, as well.

Pac 12 tossed the towel in as well. Cory may be correct in that the New York dudes and dudets might have to stay here. Now you’s can’t leave, Bronx Tale https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfOC-Z6wG8w

American men would be watching football this fall if they’d voted for a woman in 2016!

Does anyone else share my anticipation of watching Kamala Harris skewer Pence in a debate?

  9. Debbo 2020-08-11 18:22

Jake, I sure do. She will chew up and spit out Dense Pence like the saliva soaked shell of a sunflower seed.

The risk of heart damage via Covid-19 is really getting athletes’ attention. If they get that heart damage they’ll require heart valve replacement and any thoughts of a professional sports career are over.

For us non athletes, the surgery and other effects mean we’ll die earlier than otherwise.

Covid-19 is deadly serious in more ways than one.

This is great news, and if it keeps a handful of New Yorkers out of South Dakota, all the better. If it keeps a few rich New Yorkers in South Dakota to make it their new home, well that’s what people seem to want.

Final body count numbers for today….

    United States
    Coronavirus Cases:
    5,303,976
    Deaths:
    167,562

Looks like well over a thousand hoax deaths today. SD might well stand for sudden or slow death before all is said and done.

Cory, did you ever consider whether Kristi’s prohibitive anti-initiative/referendum signature collection laws are personal (granted I haven’t followed the legislative sources)? :) By all appearances she IS a very small person in behavior.

Frightful Debbo, heart/wise. My seed chewing however hasn’t accelerated to “Dense Pence “(c) levels. Merely the guttural aspiration of grdz-grdz-grdz. (c)
