Fauci Urges Action Against Coronavirus Surge; Europe May Tell Us Stay Home

Dr. Anthony Fauci told the House Committee on Energy and Commerce  yesterday that the United States is seeing a “disturbing surge” in coronavirus cases:

“We’ve been hit badly,” Fauci said. He said he was “really quite concerned” about rising community spread in some states, including Arizona, which Trump was visiting on Tuesday to view the construction of a border wall and for a rally at a megachurch.

“The next couple of weeks are going to be critical in our ability to address those surges,” Fauci said.

…Fauci has recently warned that the US is still in its first wave of the pandemic, and he has continued to urge the American public to practice social distancing. And, in a recent ABC News interview, he said political demonstrations such as protests against racial injustice are “risky” to all involved.

Asked if that applied to Trump rallies, he said it did. Fauci continues to recognise widespread testing as critical for catching clusters of COVID-19 cases before they turn into full outbreaks in a given community [“‘We’ve Been Hit Badly’, Fauci Warns of US Coronavirus Surge,” Aljazeera, 2020.06.23].

Our failure to check coronavirus may keep us on Europe’s no-fly list, along with public health embarrassments Brazil and Russia:

EU ambassadors meet on Wednesday to plan reopening external borders on 1 July, and travellers from the US could be among those not allowed in.

…The 27-member bloc must first agree the measures that non-EU countries should meet before deciding on a safe list.

The virus is spreading in the US, so it is likely Americans would be barred.

Brazil, Russia and other countries with high infection rates would also be left off a safe list, according to reports from Brussels.

…Latest figures from the EU’s health agency, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, highlight Brazil, Peru, Chile, Panama and Saudi Arabia as countries with the highest “case notification rate”.

Russia and the US have a lower rate of cases per 100,000 inhabitants but are still higher than most of Europe. The US has seen 2.3 million infections and 120,000 deaths and cases are climbing in several states [“Coronavirus: EU Considers Barring Americans from Travel List,” BBC, 2020.06.24].

Ah, Paris… maybe next year….

I can’t believe people are still listening to fauci. The guy has gone back on his word time after time over the past 3-4 months.

drumpf body count hit another milestone….

    Deaths:
    124,200

Red state guvs, where covid is booming, want people to wear masks and stay home, but, can’t seem to pull the trigger and make them.

The Dean of the Baylor College of Medicine Tropical Disease Department just had this to say —

Dr. Peter Hotez, the dean of the School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, told CNN’s John Berman that the current situation in Texas represents the “greatest public health failure in the history of the nation,” and he warned that it will spiral out of control very quickly.

The curve in Texas has mostly flattened. It’s pretty much vertical.

Texas, Florida, and Georgia are receiving the government they voted for. Don’t want to quarantine? Don’t want to social distance? Don’t want to wear a mask? Afraid those measures will “hurt the economy”?
    Okay, try the pandemic alternative.

The problem is that we may have no home to stay in.

“U.S. home sales dropped far more than forecast to their lowest level in more than 9-1/2 years in May. It was the third straight monthly drop. Home resales, which make up about 90% of U.S. home sales, decreased 26.6% on a year-on-year basis in May, the largest annual decline SINCE 1982.

Single-family home sales dropped 24.8% in May from a year ago, while multi-family homes plunged 41.4%. Existing home sales dropped in all four U.S. regions in May, including an 11.1% slump in the West and an 8% decrease in the South. Closings also fell 10% in the Midwest and 13% in the Northeast.”

Have you had enough yet? Vote Blue, that’s who. Toss these no nothing trumpian republicans out on their arse’s. What failures. 40 million unemployed, 124,200 American’s killed by Covid19, tens of thousands that will suffer from Covid19 for the rest of their lives with no end in sight.

Texas again, just a bigger South Dakota. Same same imbeciles are in charge. Gonna be interesting on the trump propaganda tour of Rushmore fire crackers for the head cracker. Then comes Sturgis, boy howdy, the guys that want this mass murder will have a lot of empty seats next year.

“AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday that the state is facing a “massive outbreak” in the coronavirus pandemic and that some new local restrictions may be needed to protect hospital space for new patients.

In a series of midday interviews with television stations, Abbott said Texas would again pass 5,000 new coronavirus cases and more than 4,000 hospital patients with COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. Texas passed both thresholds for the first time Tuesday.

“There is a massive outbreak of COVID-19 across the state of Texas,” Abbott said in an interview with KFDA-TV in Amarillo.”

Jerry, in spite of the horrendously deadly outlook for Texas, Abbott still refuses to order any type of restrictions. He’s busy polishing his wingnut cred while Texans keel over. What a pig.

    From Axios AM:

“The pandemic is getting dramatically worse in almost every corner of the U.S., Axios health care editor Sam Baker and visual journalist Andrew Witherspoon report.

“This is the grimmest map in the eight weeks since Axios began tracking the state-by-state change in new cases.”

The brief, ugly details are right here,

Bunk, Jason. The only people who don’t trust Fauci are the Trumpist nihilists who need to discredit all factual speakers so they can justify listening to Trump’s constant lies and the lies they tell themselves. Most Americans that Fauci is giving them good, consistent advice, without self-interest, while Trump is acting out of pure selfish political interest and ignorance.

drumpf’s body count took a healthy jump yesterday…

    Deaths:
    126,785

  11. Debbo 2020-06-28 17:22

    An UNhealthy jump.

I work hard at finding something to feel optimistic about. It’s getting more difficult. Remember, the diehard trumpistas are about 25% of the population. That means 75% of us are sane and cult free.
