Turkey Unfazed by Feckless American Threats

Congress gets back to work today, so maybe we’ll hear Representative Dusty Johnson and Senators John Thune and M. Michael Rounds weigh in on our reckless abandonment of the Kurds, our driving our former allies into the arms of Bashar al-Assad, and the White House’s vow to now “swiftly destroy Turkey’s economy” with sanctions for engaging in an invasion that the White House greenlighted.

Turkish markets are speaking up about Trump’s new sanctions—they seem unworried:

The dollar was down 1% against the lira for the session, with the Turkish currency trading at 5.8628 per dollar at 8 a.m. London time on Tuesday.

The tariff threats are mere “window dressing from Trump,” said Timothy Ash, senior emerging markets strategist at Bluebay Asset Management. “Minimal sanctions. A few individuals. A trade deal which was years off anyway. And steel tariffs up to 50% — Turkey hardly exports any (steel to the U.S.) anyway,” Ash said in an emailed note.

“Likely relief in Turkish markets — they could have been much worse.”

…“These appear to be relatively light sanctions — meant to appease Congress without sundering Trump’s relations with Erdogan,” Charlie Roberston, global chief economist at Renaissance Capital, told CNBC [Natasha Turak, “Turkish Lira Rises as Markets Don’t Take Trump’s Tariff Threats Seriously,” CNBC, 2019.10.15].

The Turks seem to grasp what everyone else in the world not wearing a MAGA hat understands: you can’t take seriously anything said by an America led by Donald Trump. The same may be said of our Congressional delegation, who writhe gagged and handcuffed by partisanship to the incompetent thug wrecking America’s foreign policy.

It took the U.S. pulling out of Syria for the steadfast Kurds to turn away from us; how much more betrayal can Johnson, Thune, and Rounds countenance before they finally turn away from Trump?

Congresswoman Liz Cheney, R-WY, might pull something. She’s trying so hard to find a tune that will play to blame the Democratic Party for Traitor trump’s sell out of our close allies, the Kurds.

“So because Democrats — three weeks as of Tuesday — formally launched an impeachment inquiry centered on Trump’s conduct in Ukraine, the President decided to go pull troops out of Syria?

“The argument here is, well, nonsensical. The decision to pull troops was Trump’s and Trump’s alone. The reason that the Turks began to ‘roll across the border’ is because of the announced withdrawal of American troops from northern Syria. And again, that withdrawal decision was Trump’s — against, it’s worth adding, the clear wishes of his own party.

“Cheney’s argument would be funny if she wasn’t serious about it. There is simply no way to lay Trump’s decision on Democrats or impeachment. Like, none.”

Lizard was not a fan of Traitor trump’s Big Blunder, tweeting at the time, “News from Syria is sickening. Turkish troops preparing to invade Syria from the north, Russian-backed forces from the south, ISIS fighters attacking Raqqa. Impossible to understand why @realDonaldTrump is leaving America’s allies to be slaughtered and enabling the return of ISIS.”

Is there anyone in the GOP in DC who does not lie? Anyone? At all?

Good olé NYTs! UNPRECEDENTED DEBATE COVERAGE tonight. Meanwhile thune rounds and Johnson twitter feeds appear down. The GOP, trumps tiny right hand ( when he is not masturbating) is feckless; as Schiff, Nadler, Pelosi and Schumer are prepping to impeach our mthrfkr in chief, and by the time January 2021 rolls around any of these Democratic presidential candidates WILL LEAD THIS NATION LEADING THE WORLD back to an environmental, foreign policy, economic EQUALITY, national health care, justice and diversity ETHIC that is moral and immediate. The GOP is finished. Noem, Thune Rounds and Johnson must be broomed out of the way as political obstructionists. Trumps and associates and conspiring capitalists must be prosecuted. The rest of us can get back to living simpler lives and love and focus away from divisive and capitalistic propaganda. We can start with giving back NPR to the people.

I like Kamala, Beto, the Mayor, Amy and Liz, in no order and all of the rest, but age for some is an issue as a qualification.

  4. leslie 2019-10-15 21:38

Liz may be most prepared to make the “major structural changes” necessary for our system, in vision, strength, experience and training.

EB5 Rounds, Stretch and Chubby now have their Saigon moment. No different than when we turned tail and ran from Vietnam. You can take a look at the picture of that day when we said you’re on your own, we’re outa here. Of course EB5 Rounds and Bone Spurs Chubby were to busy to be bothered by military service or were fighting STD’s.

“One of the men is John Valdez, 67, a career Marine whose life for three decades has been defined by one overarching distinction: On April 30, 1975, he was the last man to climb on board the last helicopter out of Saigon, an act that marked the end of America’s official military presence in Vietnam, though combat had been turned over to the South Vietnamese two years earlier.”
They left behind loyal Vietnamese employees they feel certain were killed by the communists shortly after the hurried U.S. evacuation.

“They left behind the bodies of two fallen comrades, an act of unspeakable regret because there is nothing a Marine holds more dear than the vow to never leave killed or wounded Marines on the battlefield.

And, maybe worst of all, they left behind an advancing enemy they believed the United States could have defeated if only political forces had not influenced things.”

Chubby, EB5 Rounds and Stretch should never ever talk about the military nor ever ever mention the word veteran in any speech as they have tarnished their brand regarding us both. Joe Biden may not be thought of highly in many regards, but he never waivered on his support for the military nor for veterans and our issues and neither did his wife.

Those B-one’s from Ellsworth flew missions to defend the people Trump has now abandoned to slaughter by the turks. The ISIS project was designed as a contra-style operation and supported by turkey, to use jihadists to commit genocide of the minorities, including christians, living in the historic footprint of kurdistan. In some of Osama Bin Laden’s overlooked speeches shortly after 9-11, he even suggested the region be over-run and occupied by Al-Qaeda. Trump and the turks are now making that happen. You would expect someone like Thune would recognize this moment to do something in defense of christianity, at least.

No reason for Marlboro Barbie to care about Kurds. When was the last time a Kurd distinguished his/herself on the hardwood? Like Juanita Jean was prone to saying, “I’m not saying Marlboro Barbie is shallow, hell ya, that’s exactly what I’m saying.”

  8. mike from iowa 2019-10-16 11:42

Don’t bother, Grudzilla. I realize the complications of this urgent matter with drumpf’s businesses and fortunes on the ine in Turkey if we don’t let Erdogan have his way with what was once pretty damn useful allies and ferocious fighters.

drumpf hisownself said he wasn’t worried about genocide because Syria was 6000 miles away.

  9. jerry 2019-10-16 13:39

chris, Slick Thune doesn’t pretend his distaste for Christianity and has shown it time and time again. Just like EB5 Rounds, they blather about whatever their masters tell them to. Those Christians on the Syrian border had better convert to whatever they can to survive, Christianity has abandoned them completely. Look for Slick Thune and EB5 Rounds to send thoughts and prayers though, empty of course.

Hey, Trump has twin towers in Istanbul, so Turkey can do anything it wants. Same way, since Saudi Arabia is going to pay up front, he’ll send them 1800 of our soldiers. God help us.

  11. jerry 2019-10-16 16:38

Chubby writes a letter. This ain’t no joke.

    “Dear Mr. President:

Let’s work out a good deal! You don’t want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don’t want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy—and I will. I’ve already given you a little sample with respect to Pastor Brunson.

I have worked hard to resolve some of your problems. Don’t let the world down. You can make a great deal. General Mazloum is willing to negotiate with you, and he is willing to make concessions that they never would have made in the past. I am confidentially enclosing his letter to me, just received.

History will look upon you favorably if you get this the right and humane way. It will look upon you forever as the devil if good things don’t happen. Don’t be a tough guy. Don’t be a fool!

    I will call you later.”

It almost seems like Barron Trump dictated the letter to Chubby.

  12. Debbo 2019-10-16 20:53

I know Jerry, that letter is so bizarre. It’s like a middle schooler writing a secret classroom note to his playground buddy. Some newsrooms verified the letter’s authenticity before using it because they thought they were being pranked.

    Oh. My. Gawd. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

We are now entertaining the world’s despots with our antics. Now we are bombing ourselves. Republicans, Chubby is your boy. Sometimes you just have to say no.

“Washington (CNN)Two US Air Force F-15 jets conducted an airstrike targeting an American munitions storage bunker at a US base in Syria Wednesday in order to prevent the munitions and other equipment from falling into the hands of armed groups, two US defense officials told CNN.

“On Oct. 16, after all Coalition personnel and essential tactical equipment departed, two Coalition F-15Es successfully conducted a pre-planned precision airstrike at the Lafarge Cement Factory to destroy an ammunition cache, and reduce the facility’s military usefulness,” US Army Col. Myles Caggins, a spokesman for the US-led military coalition fighting ISIS, confirmed in a statement Wednesday.”

Are we there yet? When do Republicans finally find themselves and decide if they want a country or a meaningless party.

  14. jerry 2019-10-17 09:18

Turkey could care less if Chubby imposes more sanctions. China already filled that void in June.

“Bloomberg News reported Aug. 9, “China’s central bank transferred $1 billion worth of funds to Turkey in June, Beijing’s biggest support package ever for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered at a critical time in an election month. The inflow marks the first time Turkey received such a substantial amount under the lira-yuan swap agreement with Beijing that dates back to 2012, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter who asked not to be named because the information isn’t public.””

Much ado over the shameful betrayal of our ally the Kurds. We heard from Johnson, but not a peep from EB5 Rounds and his sidekick Stretch, pretty quiet boys.

Pootie likely told his Puppet, here’s what you’ll do and when. Puppet said yes sir. Anything else I can do for you sir? Pootie said, my boots are dirty from the horse barn. Use your tongue.
