White House Sends Pence to Save Noem’s Bacon

Kristi Noem’s Facebook banner promises to protect South Dakota from “federal intrusion.”

Kristi Noem for Governor, Facebook banner, screen cap 2018.11.02.

But her 6.6-million-dollar campaign is floundering so badly that she requires a second major federal intrusion this Saturday, from Vice-President Mike Pence:

Mike Pence and Kristi Noem
Mike Pence need his wife’s permission to be alone at a podium with Kristi Noem?

Vice President Mike Pence will be in Rapid City next week as the guest of Kristi Noem – the Republican candidate for governor.

It’s all for a “Rapid City Get Out the Vote Rally,” scheduled Monday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. It will be held at the West Jet Air Center next to the Rapid City Regional Airport [Alyssa Hensrud, “Vice President Mike Pence Coming to Rapid City,” KNBN-TV, 2018.11.01].

With Republican control of the U.S. House at stake, the Republican White House has to intervene twice in a governor’s race where it has nothing at stake but three safe Electoral College votes in 2020 but where the Washington politician who’s trying to win her next pageant crown is running the sloppiest, most wasteful, most ineffective Republican gubernatorial campaign South Dakota has seen in decades.

I have to wonder: with all the positive national and international press Democratic candidate Billie Sutton has earned, could it be that Team Trump is less worried about boosting an ineffectual beauty queen for South Dakota Governor and more interested in beating down a rising Democratic star who could show his party how to break the Trump wave in 2020?

US trade deficit increases more than expected in October and is now up 10% for 2018

The U.S. goods and services deficit increased more than expected in September amid escalating tensions with its global trading partners.
The shortfall rose to $54 billion for the month, a 1.3 percent increase, or $700 million, from August and reflective of a 10.1 percent increase year to date, according to government numbers released Friday.
Those numbers come as the Trump administration moved forward with a plan to tax $200 billion worth of Chinese imports and as China countered.

Winning is getting tiresome. Must be because it is so easy, right?

    Pence ——— hahahaha

This is a sign of desperation in so many ways. The jokes write themselves.

The West Jet Air Center? Heck of a place for a get out the vote rally. That’s like a Best Western Hotel lobby.

  5. Debbo 2018-11-02 14:29

Prissy Pussy Pency is the farthest right, white supremacist, misogynist in the entire drumpf deministration. Just Noem’s kinda guy.

    Ugh.

  6. Timoteo 2018-11-02 15:05

Pence is a good guy. Take it easy on Pence.

Back to the topic at hand: Noem’s campaign.

I have sometimes thought that all across the United States, the Democratic Party would cheer for South Dakota if Sutton won. In some way it makes them look good, because he’s affiliated with them. But I think they would be wrong to read into it the concept that South Dakota is becoming more Democratic. (Rather, we just like and trust Billie more than we do Kristi.) Also, they would be wrong to read into it the fact that we conservative, Sutton supports are lashing out against Trump policies with our Sutton vote. (Rather, this is kind of a South Dakota anti-establishment thing.)

I hope that Sutton wins. I (early) voted for Sutton. But if Sutton wins, I think different people are going to take the wrong meaning from this.

  7. Debbo 2018-11-02 15:35

Prissy Pussy Pency is not anywhere close to a good guy. Follow the link Mike provided.

  8. Ryan 2018-11-02 15:45

debbo, what does “Prissy Pussy” mean to you?

Are you calling him a cat? Or a vagina? Or using pussy as a euphemism for “weak male” to insult to his masculinity? Seems a bit contradictory for a person accusing somebody of being a misogynist to talk like that, but you rarely say anything that isn’t contradictory so I guess this is at least consistent with your normal behavior.

also, debbo, does it bother you, as a hypocrite-feminist, that cory has reduced noem’s substantial accomplishments in life down to her being nothing but a beauty queen? I don’t ask this as a fan of noem – I think she is a terrible politician and she is a liar and I will be voting for billie and encouraging everyone I know to vote for billie. I ask this to make sure you don’t hold republicans and democrats to different standards when it comes to disparagement of women.

  9. mike from iowa 2018-11-02 16:00

I ask this to make sure you don’t hold republicans and democrats to different standards when it comes to disparagement of women.

And, pray tell, what are you going to do about it if they do? Call them yssirp yssup ecneP?

  10. Ryan 2018-11-02 16:07

no, mike, that doesn’t make sense. If a person holds democrats and republicans to different standards regarding disparagement of women, i’d call that person stupid.

  11. jimmy james 2018-11-02 19:05

God help me. Today, I get a Republican mailer saying “Billie Sutton is WRONG on amnesty and open borders. LMAO.

He should do an ad where he smiles into the camera, holds up that postcard and says…

“What the (BLEEP) do I have to do with granting amnesty and sealing the borders? Is there nothing that you won’t do to win, Kristi? Nothing too low?” Screen goes dark and he continues, “What, is she afraid that Sioux City is going to invade?”

  12. grudznick 2018-11-02 19:56

If there is to be an invasion, it will be launched from Sioux City. And Bowman and Beulah. It will be a three-pronged attack.

  13. Debbo 2018-11-02 20:29

Ryan, I’ll skip all your disparaging remarks about me in hopes that you will be a better man next time you address me.

    Regarding “Prissy Pussy Pency”:
I’m going for alliteration there. “Prissy Pussy” hits on 2 themes, attacks on gays for being effeminate and the scaredy cat theme. Nope, I wasn’t thinking vaginas. That’s an obsession of the Lascivious Lunatic. And you? I was also looking at Pency’s fear of going any place without “mother”. His fake piety is nauseating.

From your post Ryan, it appears that you reached a conclusion before you wrote your questions to me, and were trying to set me up to be the hypocrite you’d like me to be. If the shoe fits . . . . .

I would never call any of the WH cabal or Pootiepublicans words that commonly refer to women and girls. Overall, I find women and girls to be outstanding people, with a few exceptions, Noem and DiSantis being among them.

Regarding Cory’s take on Noem, that appears to be another effort on your part to set me up. I thought you had given up on being my stalker, but I guess I was wrong. It’s just not going to happen Ryan. There will NEVER be anything between us. Ever.

Oh, I believe Cory is referring to Noem’s one and only accomplishment, beauty queen.

  14. Debbo 2018-11-02 20:42

[Prissy Pussy Pency] held a rally today in Ohio, where adults kept trying to give him candy. ‘I’m not a ghost! I’m not a ghost.’

jimmyjames, Pentagon turns trump down for the election prop of using troops for election purposes. 100 million bucks publicity stunt, only a reality show dummy would think that a good idea. trump wants to bankrupt the country like he has bankrupted all of his business’s.

“Washington (CNN) When the Trump administration first asked the Pentagon to send troops to the southern border, they wanted them to perform emergency law enforcement functions, CNN has learned.

    The Pentagon said no.

According to two defense official familiar with the request, the Department of Homeland Security asked that the Pentagon provide a reserve force that could be called upon to provide “crowd and traffic control” and safeguard Customs and Border Protection personnel at the border to counter a group of Central American migrants walking to the US border to request asylum.” https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/11/02/politics/white-house-pentagon-troops-border/index.html?__twitter_impression=true
Crooked NOem is gonna have to make us some other lie.

The right Reverend Pastor Geelsottir cannot post from her rude, out-of-state location, without calling people junior high school mean-girl names. It is what she does.

PS: Mr. Ravnsborg is unqualified, so please vote for Mr. Seiler if you are one of the handful of South Dakotans who read the bloggings here.

  18. Ryan 2018-11-02 23:07

deebo, despite your fantasies of someone, anyone, wanting you, i’m not that someone. You are a hypocrite. You are a phony. You have accomplished much less than all the people you consistently cast judgment on.

Now, I judge people, too, but I’m agnostic. Don’t people like you have rules to follow about judging others or is that one of the hundreds of rules that are super inconvenient and completely ignored? Phony.

  19. Debbo 2018-11-02 23:41

Oh Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. You are such a gentleman. I knew your questions were merely set ups, disingenuous attempts to mask your continued stalking. This post and the issues presented in your comment were merely a pretense for you. I will leave leave the mental and emotional obsessions to you.

  20. Ryan 2018-11-03 07:30

So that’s no comment on the substance huh? Just trying to change the subject? That’s something trump does a lot, too.

I assert that calling out hypocrisy is a good thing, but I understand why hypocrites like you wouldn’t like it.

  21. mike from iowa 2018-11-03 07:43

Ryan, yer bigly crush on Debbo is becoming worrisome. Hop in a cold shower for a spell, will ya?

  22. mike from iowa 2018-11-03 07:48

You fellas should be ashamed of yourselves for your obsequious pandering.

  25. mike from iowa 2018-11-03 08:24

Who is obsessed with Debbo? Not me. I don’t know Debbo. It is just seeing her name that drives me crazy. I have to attack her to get the attention I so richly deserve. I want and need that attention from Debbo. I can’t help it. I am obsessed with her name and it drives me wild. Excuse me, something just came up and needs my immediate attention. Someone have a tissue I can borrow. Who says I am obsessed with Debbo. What are you talking about?

  26. Porter Lansing 2018-11-03 08:42

In the borrowed prose of OS, “That’s just funny, Mike.”, in an off topic kinda’ way.
~ 70% of white, USA males support Trump. There’s little wonder why some gravitate to the FreePress for inspiration and “osmosis of character” from “We The Elite 30.”
*What drives that 70% nuts is that 70% isn’t enough to hold power. The 70% of American white males is just another minority, now. Women and POC’s control the power in USA. Women didn’t show up to vote for Hillary, and in retrospect it was the right call. Women are much more engaged, this cycle. We’ll count ’em up, Tuesday.
~ For you A.G.M’s (angry white males); welcome you are, to all we share. The direction you need to be a functioning minority is here for the gathering.

  27. Timoteo 2018-11-03 15:24

    What are POCs?

  28. mike from iowa 2018-11-03 15:26

    POC person, people of color.

  29. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-03 17:17

Timoteo, a Sutton win could signal a resurgence of the Blue Dogs like Stephanie Herseth Sandlin. He’s winning by playing to that same middle.

If Sutton wins, national Democrats will surely lump him in with whatever happy stats come from Tuesday to say that the country is revolting against Trump. Fine. Let them. We will be entitled to make that claim as surely as Kristi Noem made the claim that her Tea-powered win in 2010 was a sign of the country revolting against Obama. It set the stage for six years of Republican obstruction against the greatest President of this century. At the national level, a Democratic House would be allowed to cite all Democratic victories as a mandate to fight Trump.

But I agree, a Sutton victory Tuesday does not signal that South Dakota is turning against Trump. It only signals that something is going on that is bigger than two fly-ins by Trump and Pence can overcome. I invite efforts to identify that “something”… but I suggest that a big part of it is Kristi’s lazy campaigning, based on her assumption (based, I will grant, on recent past performance of Demcoratic gubernatorial candidates but grossly failing to recognize Sutton’s unique qualities) that she wouldn’t have to work to beat Sutton.

  30. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-03 17:18

Remind me, Ryan, where are Noem’s “substantial accomplishments”? She won four statewide elections and kept Democrats out of power. She raised a truckload of campaign cash. She… uh… she… well… she was Snow Queen once. And she avenged her father’s death by claiming 15-20 times more in farm subsidies than her family paid in estate tax.

  31. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-03 17:19

Oh, yeah, and she spent $6.6 million to be in a tie with a Democrat in South Dakota and needs Mike Pence to save her campaign.

Hey, Mark Mickelson, isn’t Mike Pence another out-of-stater trying to impose his agenda on South Dakota politics?

  32. leslie 2018-11-04 07:08

Strong liberal woman stands up to Republican era of viciousness. Grudz doxxs, ryan screams hypocrite, then goads “fantasy” and “people like you with rules” when the bait smells. Noem and Pence are just Republican cronies climbing the ladder like Billie describes, stealing your future to give tax cuts to their Owners, the rich.

  33. Jason 2018-11-04 07:31

Sutton isn’t running as a blue dog Democrat. He’s running as a Republican.

  34. Jason 2018-11-04 07:45

    Leslie,

let’s take a look at the 100 richest people in America and see what political party they support.

Let’s do the same with Corporations.

I bet you won’t because you know the vast majority are Democrats.

  35. jerry 2018-11-04 09:58

Do show us the list white nationalist

Do show us the list of individuals

Do show us the list of Corporations and all of their shareholders.

I bet you won’t because you are an idiot. Did I say that? Damn right I did.

What’s interesting is dugad radio commercial against amendment W
Stating we don’t need outside influence in SD campaigning for this
Yet outside influence is campaigning for his endorsement on monday………so we do need “outside influence” or we don’t I’m confused ……

  37. Debbo 2018-11-04 12:51

Prissy Pussy Pency, his insane boss and the Pootiepublicans fried Noem’s bacon burnt black with their pitiful attempts at economic policy. Today’s Minneapolis Star Tribune has the latest on on the Laughable Lunatic’s favorite attempt to prove his hands aren’t really tiny, his tariff war with China.
    https://goo.gl/3wDCtW
Minnesota farmers aren’t the only ones he’s ruining and not only farmers. I doubt “mother” is allowing PPP to mention that as she sits between him and Noem’s dangerous female enticements.

  38. jerry 2018-11-04 12:59

NOem/trump just cost us another 425 BILLION this quarter. Glad we are doing so well. Wait until we file our taxes, that should be fun as well. My children will see the sorry route our country has taken financially, my grandchildren are already seeing the pain, my great grandchildren maybe will not be around as long as I have due to irresponsible republican ideology.

“So, we should not be surprised that there was scant attention paid last week when the U.S. Treasury Department disclosed that it was going to issue $425 billion in new debt for this quarter, bringing our grand total for 2018 to an eye popping $1.3 trillion in debt. As the Fiscal Times pointed out, that reflects “a 145 percent increase from the $546 billion issued in 2017.” That’s the biggest annual issuance of federal public debt since 2010 when Uncle Sam issued $1.586 trillion in debt.” In 2010, we were coming out of a Republican recession, there is no excuse for this.

  39. Debbo 2018-11-04 13:04

Oh yeah, and for all you fans of American made Polaris snowmobiles and 4 wheelers, Prissy Pussy Pency and his Narcissistic Nutcase boss, aka- Noem’s heroes, are ruining that business and totally screwing up several others. (Also in the Strib by Lee Schaeffer, one of the smartest and best biz writers in the country.)
    https://goo.gl/at2rvD
Who wants this kind of thinking, so to speak, behind the gov’s desk? Ugh.

  40. leslie 2018-11-04 23:25

    Waiting Jason….

…there is this one Democratic billionaire majorly encouraging impeachment of the idiot in chief you brainiacs elected.

Mueller may indict the idiot in chief’s advisor with the Tricky Dick tattoo on his back (supposedly), soon. What with Comey’s firing, threats to fire AG Rosenstein, Mueller’s NINE meetings (yes, 9) in the last week with guilty Manafort, collusion AND obstruction may very well jail most of the rats befouling the peoples’ White House and cabinet. Then the rest of us will get back to diplomacy, cleaning up the planet (including USA territory Puerto Rico-except for tax cheats flying & boating in and out of there while 4000 died), pivoting from fossil fuels, educating the populace, securing health care, housing, infrastructure and living wages, all without privatizing schemes REPUBLICANS have scammed us with unregulated capitalism.

Oh, corporations don’t vote because they are fictions.

  41. Rorschach 2018-11-05 08:07

They should all 10 be Democrats. The other 3, if they are GOPs, believe the GOP line that billionaires should pay lower tax rates than their secretaries. Warren Buffett says a tax system that charges him a lower rate than his secretary is nonsense. Who can argue with that?

  42. Rorschach 2018-11-05 08:12

Hey there’s that picture of Kristi with the pepto bismol colored blouse, the bad dye job, and Pence looking unhappy to be standing next to her. She should have burned that picture.

  43. Rorschach 2018-11-05 08:42

I know that Marty finally came around and endorsed Kristi and all. But in the privacy of the voting booth, do you think he will vote for her or for Billie? And his lovely wife, will she vote for Kristi or for Billie? And his lovely sister. Will she vote for Kristi or for Billie? And his parents. Will they vote for Kristi or for Billie? We’ll never know for sure. And neither will Kristi.

  44. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-05 22:43

Marty’s endorsement won’t matter if his well-tuned network of followers understand the signals he’s been sending.

45,069 Republican voters turned out for Jackley in the primary. 45,069 voters saw Kristi Noem beat their guy with a mean negative assault. If a quarter of those Jacley backers hold a grudge, Sutton wins.

In the last really tight gubernatorial election, Mickelson beat Herseth by about 11,000 votes.

  45. Jason 2018-11-05 22:48

    Still waiting Leslie.
