Salesman Trump Lies About Economy

Donald Trump, Liar-in-Chief
Donald Trump, Liar-in-Chief

Donald Trump’s used-car salesman hyperbole disgusts me. Yesterday he posted this propaganda bleat to Twitter, in which he stands in front of the White House and lies to America.

“It’s said now that our economy is the strongest that it’s ever been in the history of our country,” says the occupant of the White House in another deliberately sourceless claim. Said by whom? And by what metrics? If GDP growth signals economic strength, then as I noted last month, our 4.1% GDP growth in the second quarter this year was lower than GDP growth in multiple quarters during the Obama Administration.

Statista.com, “Quarterly growth of the real GDP in the United States from 2011 to 2018,” retrieved 2018.08.25.

“Unemployment all-time historic lows….” No. Unemployment was lower than the most recent 3.9% figure in 1948 and 1969 and the same at the end of 2000.

Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Unemployment Rate 1948–2018, retrieved 2018.08.25.

“…women unemployment….” No, again, lower in 1953, same in 2000.

Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, "Unemployment Rate: Women," retrieved 2018.08.25.

“Our country is doing phenomenally well, we’re going all the way—” These words are meaningless. Going all the way toward what?

“—you look at what’s happening outside of the United States, it’s not a pretty picture—” More vagueness colored with insularity and ignorance. China is projected to enjoy more purchasing power parity than the United States this year. Unemployment continues to march downward in the European Union, as it has since 2012. The World Bank shows the U.S. GDP growth rate exceeding rates in the Middle East/North Africa and the Caribbean/Latin America but trailing South Asia, East Asia/Pacific, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe/Central Asia, and the overall global rate.

It should not be this easy for me to prove public statements of the President of the United States to be lies. But there they are: hyperbolic lies, one after another, disproven by simple statistics.

“We’re having a lot of fun,” says the leader of the free world after lying to our faces. No, we are not. Conscientious citizens, teachers, parents, and voters find no pleasure in seeing the White House and the United States of America debased by such vacuous, transparently false statements from a man pretending to be President.

The year 1983 peaked on your charts. That was the year President Reagan began to illegally dismantle American worker’s rights to stand strong and speak as a group. That began the income inequality, the stalling of worker wages and the “river of profits” to the top 2%.
~ The percentage of American workers belonging to a organized labor union in the United States in 2016 (or total labor union “density”) was 10.7%, compared to 20.1% in 1983.

The economy is doing pretty well, but Trump and the GOP Party have made sure that it works much better for the 1% and big corporations than for working people. Who can forget the Corker Kickback – real estate tax cuts – that could have been called the Trump kickback but for alliteration issues. Trump got a yuuuuuge tax cut out of that one. Heck, that tax cut alone will pay off 100 mistresses and his next ex-wife. But who’s going to pay for all of those tax cuts for the rich? The grandkids of course. Borrow and spend. Borrow and spend. The GOP Party mantra.

John’s link is interesting. I worked to help people at the lower end of the skill set find jobs for 16 years. I absolutely agree this isn’t a boom economy for many, but it hasn’t been for 30-40 years. Right now there are a lot of jobs that don’t pay anything close to a living wage.

  4. Porter Lansing 2018-08-25 13:11

In Trump’s brain, workers aren’t part of the economy. Workers are just an overhead expense. To him, the economy is the owners and stockholders of Fortune 500 companies. It’s a tell that 2/3 of Americans don’t have a thousand bucks in savings.

Does trump’s statements make sense if you factor in”truth is’nt truth” and ” alternative facts”? He is a con man, always has and always will be and there is always a certain percentage of people who will always fall for a scam. Once the investigation is complete, we will be able to finish the “con” to a more complete ” convict”.

  6. mike from iowa 2018-08-25 15:00

Drumpf’s statements kinda make sense if you only consider the 1%. They are doing bigly, thank you.

And with healthcare costs rising 20% I am sure Obamacare will bear the burden of the wrath of Drumpf and wingnuts alike.

  7. Debbo 2018-08-25 15:05

Today’s WaPo has an article about lying, can’t imagine why. Experts in brain science say the more one lies the more comfortable one becomes with lying and even a lie when it’s completely unnecessary.

Repetitive lying changes the brain, muting it’s electrical response to lying. A consummate liar, such as our Liar-in-Chief, mutes his guilt response to lying.

Experts don’t know yet if liars actually get to the point where they believe their lies or are unable to differentiate truth from lies. Liar-in-Chief has demonstrated he has not reached the latter stage, if it is possible, as shown by his actions.

There is not a one of you that hasn’t benefited from the actions Trump has made.

On a related note: Watch Trump turn the latest attack on him around as well. The guy has not lost a single battle yet and it is starting to appear only the corrupt have suffered in their attacks. How many of the deep state players have already gone down? So far they are saying more than 42% of the democrat operatives have resigned or been fired in just the last year. The guys is actually cleaning out the swamp of those who use their positions to enrich themselves and all of you are just repeating the lies of the media.

  9. mike from iowa 2018-08-25 17:35

I benefited handsomely. My 2% cola for SS cost me nearly three bucks from my monthly check because of wingnuts and the uncertainty they keep in place about healthcare that drives up the cost of premiums. Thankx OldSferBrains.

The forecast is the same for the next five years. No raises. I guess the koch bros need the extra money more than the elderly, retired and disabled.

It will be very interesting to see how Tangerine Wankmaggot/Liar-in-Chief responds to what Pecker will divulge.

It seems likely that the CFO of the Trump Family Crime Syndicate is carrying an enormous payload of bombshells. Now that he has an immunity deal with the good Mr. Mueller, he can “release the bombs” right away. I wonder if Tangerine Wankmaggot is ready to wade around in his swamp all alone?

I’m going to need more popcorn for this show. 😁

I’m back. You guys are boring. Saturday night at 8 and I’m out for the night. Hill City was fun but expensive. The wine, brews and BBQ ran about $50/head.

  14. grudznick 2018-08-25 21:28

Mr. OldSarg, I had myself a belly full in Hill City too. They ran me out there to enjoy. I fear I might break a toilet in the morning.

I love Hill City, but even the breathtaking natural scenery of the heart of the Black Hills doesn’t change the fact (acknowledged by most of the commenters here—thank you for your commitment to reality) that Donald Trump told multiple lies to American yesterday in that meager 49-second video.

Speaking of the Liar-in-Chief, I just saw this on FB:

“If donald trump wanted Hillary locked up, he should have put her in his cabinet.”

  17. OldSarg 2018-08-26 06:15

Cory, he wasn’t elected because the people thought he didn’t brag or lie (as you call it). He was elected because he wasn’t the Status Quo. Maybe had the democrats put forward someone who wasn’t just part of the same machine, who have continued to only enrich themselves, they would have won. This was what America thought they were getting in Obama but, alas, we got the same thing we had been getting for the last 50 years; another politician who worked harder to enrich themselves rather than to make the country better. No, you are right, Trump needs work but honestly even with all the harping about, this or that, lie this lie about that, whatever, he is still not on the dole and is still doing what he promised those who elected him he would do.

I will say, in time, and “if” (that’s a big IF) he survives over the work of our unelected intelligence organization to undermine him and get him removed, we will have another election and you side will get another chance. If he doesn’t survive I fear neither will our republic.

Federal Court slapped Drumpf Friday by removing Drumpf’s restrictions on Postal Union workers. Another in a long line of losses for loser Wankmaggot.

  19. mike from iowa 2018-08-26 07:07

Drumpf got the prize because of outside interference from Putin and pals. That is the only reason he is able to grift the bogus potus office.

  20. OldSarg 2018-08-26 07:45

mike, you didn’t read the actual decision by the judge did you. . . You read a “headline”. If you were to read the decision you would learn the judge made a ruling that didn’t really apply to the subject at hand but did block executive order that would provide better service to the veterans. The judge’s decision also impacts you in a negative way. As it is right now an employee that is say a union steward but holds a position as a Social Security technician doesn’t have to do the job for social security but instead spends their time working on union things. This means that when you or others that need help have to wait because the worker may be spending their time protecting someone who was caught stealing or even worse instead of providing service to someone that needs actual help. What would you do if your check didn’t show up one day and they told you they were busy working on union things instead of helping you? My guess is, as much as you cry baby here, you’d be bouncing off the walls screaming like the little creep you are. See, you’re not thinking again. The judge hurt you more than she helped the unions. But you are stupid and won’t understand what I wrote anyway and are sure to provide a headline link that has nothing to do with the issue but it’s a headline and that is all you believe and say “SEE! I TOLD YOU!!!” This is much like when you grabbed a headline that said the girl killer in Iowa was here legally and you believed that. I know, I know, you want to blame the media but in actuality it is you. You are stupid.

  21. OldSarg 2018-08-26 08:02

mike, I’m sorry I called you stupid again. Sometimes when you post things it becomes apparent you do no research and that doesn’t necessarily mean your stupid. It just means you didn’t think it through which some people would call stupid. So. I’m sorry.

  22. mike from iowa 2018-08-26 08:05

OldSalami, when sticking your finger up your nose can you feel the empty space at the end?

  23. OldSarg 2018-08-26 08:19

I’m serious about my apology. I’m sorry. I’m afraid that if I run for office one day it will come out I called you stupid and then someone might ask why and they will get a court order against Cory to disclose your posts and the world will know you’re stupid and that’s not fair to the world knowing their tax dollars are being used to support your stupidity. So, I’m sorry.

That line you stole from me was good wasn’t it. . . “when sticking your finger up your nose can you feel the empty space at the end?” Others would call that “plagiarism” but you wouldn’t know that, nor would you look it up, so it means “stupid”. I was imagining your face when you first read that and laughed and laughed.

  24. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-08-26 08:43

That’s the problem when I lay out simple facts about Donald Trump’s lying. Trump’s supporters can’t dispute my reporting, so they have to fall back on distractions and insults.

The fact that people don’t like the status quo does not justify choosing a worse quo. A constantly lying occupant of the White House who makes no intelligent or factual statements about public policy is a worse quo for everyone.

  25. OldSarg 2018-08-26 08:58

But Cory, is it actually worse? What one thing has Trump actually done that hurt you personally?

  26. OldSarg 2018-08-26 09:20

    1) I would hope your complaint wouldn’t be about your health care as you are now allowed to pool together with other school districts allowing your cost to go down?

    2) Was it the tax cuts? I’ve yet to see anyone who is not paying less in federal taxes.

    3) Was it LPQRTSP or whatever rights? Nothing has changed there.

What is your complaint other than what the media tells you is your problem with Trump?

  27. jerry 2018-08-26 09:41

In the past, school’s did pool together for healthcare and it further through the roof. With the ACA/Obamacare, the costs were contained much better than using that flawed method of pooling. States have it on their books to go across state lines for health insurance, ask Wyoming how many takers they have. Clue to the Russian bot, none, natta zilch. It is a Russian talking point.

Look deeper fool, and show me who is getting the $4,000.00 promised. Show us at your personal level. You’re so proud of that, bring it out and show it.

Russia has given you your talking points, they are getting their monies worth with your tomfoolery.

  29. OldSarg 2018-08-26 10:01

    jerry,

    1) pooling can’t cause a price increase. There is nothing logical in blaming pooling for increased cost. That’s the whole point of insurance it spreads the cost.

    2) Nobody promised you or anyone else “$4,000”. This isn’t like “keep your doctor”. The vast majority of American workers, including Cory, all are paying less taxes and have better benefit packages as a result of the Trump tax cuts.

    3) No, neither russia nor your socialist overlords gave me any talking points. Have you been driving from mikeys cup?

  30. jerry 2018-08-26 10:11

It certainly can cause price increases. Age is the factor. You take a school district with young teachers and pool them with some older teachers and there you go.

trump/Putin made the promise “The White House is making a promise: The average American family would get a $4,000 raise under President Trump’s tax plan.

Critics have slammed the plan as a giveaway to the wealthy, but the White House fought back Monday, releasing a white paper from Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers that argues that reducing the top corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent would boost middle-class incomes substantially.” Washington Post 10/16/2017

Yep, clearly you are a Russian bot, making that $4,000.00 trump promised the easy way, by lying.

NEW REPORT: Tax Reform Will Raise Wages at Least $4,000 on Average
October 16, 2017|Speaker Ryan Press Office

Tax reform is all about more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks. That last one is particularly important. Pro-growth reform means a pay raise for American workers. And a new report from the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) shows just how much they stand to gain from our plan.

The study finds that as a result of corporate tax reform alone, on average, American families will see a wage increase of at least $4,000 annually.

Consumer Confidence Rose In August To Its Highest Level Since October 2000.

The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index rose to 133.4 in August, defying expectations that it would drop from July’s strong reader of 127.4.

The big improvement came from increased confidence about the future, according to the Conference Board.

“Consumers’ assessment of current business and labor market conditions improved further. Expectations, which had declined in June and July, bounced back in August and continue to suggest solid economic growth for the remainder of 2018,” said Lynn Franco, Director of Economic Indicators at The Conference Board. –

    http://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/404629-trump-is-failing-to-bring-back-american-jobs

Listen up stoopid blanking Drumpfsters- Trump won the White House by selling himself to voters like Elliott and vowing to deliver “more jobs and better wages” by bringing jobs back to the U.S. Trump’s pro-worker message helped him score upset victories in Democratic strongholds that have been hard-hit by outsourcing and the disappearance of good union jobs.

But 18 months into his term, Trump has betrayed his promises to the working-class voters like Elliott who helped him to the Oval Office.

Despite boasting that he would punish corporate offshorers, a new research report from Good Jobs Nation – Broken Promises #2 – shows that President Trump is actually using the executive power of the presidency to incentivize corporations to ship good jobs overseas in record numbers.

Our study reveals that the Trump administration has awarded more than $50 billion in new federal contracts to companies that continue to shutter U.S. factories as they seek cheaper labor abroad.

As a result, top federal contractors – Carrier’s parent company United Technologies, General Motors, Honeywell and Siemens – are now offshoring jobs at the fastest rate since the Great Recession. In fact, annual offshoring by taxpayer-funded corporations under Trump is on track to be three times greater than under the Obama and Bush administrations

Tired of all the winning Trolls?

Will South Dakotan’s figure it out like the rest of Americans? Stay tuned.

“… labor’s share of the national income has dropped by 6.7% since the mid-1980s, while the share of the nation’s income going to business investment in equipment, research, new hires and the like has dropped by 7.2%. Correspondingly, the share of the nation’s income going to shareholders (the lion’s share to the very wealthy, among them the CEOs who are compensated with shares) rose by 13.5%. That shift has put American workers at a double disadvantage, as their wages and the private-sector investment that creates jobs and boosts productivity have both hit the skids.” https://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-meyerson-labor-question-20180903-story.html

To make matters worse, the jobs are going as well. So here we are, the farm economy is in the crapper, the workplace is still stuck in neutral and we are heading into the storm of the tax cuts. Yeah, winning.
