Brockrates the Greek Forecasts Revenue Growth Under 5%

At today’s crackerbarrel in Aberdeen, Senator Brock Greenfield professed the Socratic wisdom of the South Dakota Legislature:

Local lobbyist Julie Johnson had asked “anybody who knows anything” for the inside scoop on the revenue projections that Joint Appropriations will receive next week. The Senate Pro-Tem said we’ve recovered from a lag in the first few months, but he can’t say that we’re looking at a solid upward trend or just a lucky couple months.

Greenfield’s statement fits with LRC’s just-released data on general fund receipts through January:

Legislative Research Council, Sales and Use Tax Monthly Revenue, FY18 thru January, 2018.02.06, p. 3.
Legislative Research Council, Sales and Use Tax Monthly Revenue, FY18 thru January, 2018.02.06.

Senator Greenfield said he’s “cautiously optimistic,” but he’s not banking on revenue growth breaking 5%. But hey, what does he or anyone else in Pierre really know?

Here’s Senator Greenfield’s full response to Johnson’s question:

Mr. Greenfield may be a bit μαλάκας but we should not hold that against him, or his better coiffed puppet-master sitting to his right and grinning the grin of one who knows all the money answers. I expect there will be much gnawing over the next week.

  2. Uh oh—comment section’s going to be Greeking out on this one for the rest of the weekend.

It’s amazing the things you learn using google translator. I don’t know how accurate the translation or the claim are.

Don’t these graphs have any error bars?

The partisan Legislative Council of Researching does not make errors, Dr. McTaggart, they show exactly what Mr. Greenfield tells them to show. As the President Pro Tempore, he is the straw that stirs the drink.

Mr. Brock is the straw that stirs the Ouzo, and when he snaps his fingers the girls jump on the tables and dance and his Council cranks out numbers the way he wants them.

  7. Robert McTaggart

My bad. I thought the Council jumps on the tables to stomp their feet and the girls crank out the numbers, because the girls are good at math.
