My racist neighbors’ noise about one brown person’s conviction for trying to grab a woman’s genitals got me wondering, as the father, whether I can offer my little girl a racial profile of potential threats.
The South Dakota Sex Offender Registry provides photos and racial classification of the sex offenders among us. I searched Aberdeen and Huron, both communities with large immigrant populations filling local workforce needs. The SOR does not distinguish “Hispanic” as a race; I take a guess based on name and face.

So when nervous locals shout “send them back,” where shall we start?
That seems about in line with the racial make up of the population. The vast majority of the pop is white.

These statistics are irrelevant without parallel percentages of each group as percentage of the local population.
Douglas, I’d say that these numbers could be useful without the relevant percentages. They tell me that, in Aberdeen, girls are 14 times more likely to be assaulted by a white pervert than by a person of a different race.
Douglas, I’d also say that the numbers are relevant for our racist friends. If they think one conviction of a black man is cause to cry for deportations, then 71 convictions of white men ought to arouse some call for action as well. Chemical castration, anyone? Banishment to someplace more open to sex fiends, like, say, Trump Tower?
But Aberdeen will give you stats. We’re 91% white, whiter than the state as a whole. 93% of our registered sex offenders are white.
Beadle County is 87% white Huron’s perverts—87% white.
Really there should be an error quoted too. 56 +/- 10 is a lot different than 56 +/- 0.2, for example.
Cory, maybe you should include legislators in Pierre. Once again SD is made a national laughingstock.

In an almost completely white state white people commit the most crime, wow, what a shocker. But but but we are all the same therefore the demographics should all line up perfectly equality that way Cory can continue to think as he wants I mean how dare there be a gray area.

Interesting read from the Washington Post. I know the comments here are about the makeup of sex offenders but the story mirrors the thought process of people in this area as how people of color are often grouped together when a crime is committed vs. how white crime is simply individualized.
