Speaking of Republican frontrunners who have no business being President, an eager reader down Mitchell way notices this fun display at the South Dakota Art Gallery:
In a good natured jab at Donald Trump, South Dakota Art Gallery has installed a Halloween window display of Donald Gump. As a satirical statement about ego, vanity, and judgement, the gallery is hoping people will get a chuckle about the “really smart person” who doesn’t seem to see the ridiculousness in his own mirror [South Dakota Art Gallery, Facebook post, 2015.10.26].
Effigize all you want: seven in ten Republicans and Republican leaners think Donald Trump is electable. Ben Carson and Jeb Bush both get six in ten to say the same. The only other current GOP candidate winning a majority’s vote of confidence is Marco Rubio (at 54%).
Let’s just hope the Republicans keep wrassling all through the primary. Then they can bring their roadshow to the Corn Palace for South Dakota’s June primary, as Barack Obama did in 2008. Perhaps the South Dakota Art Gallery can produce similar works for whichever candidates are left by spring and raffle them off to eager Republican visitors.

kudos. what would also really send a message would be a 2nd amendment effigy-maybe “old man death” wearing a ballcap w/ NRA logo, or a scythe with an ak47/ar15 as its staff. halloween political statements are interesting. i once dressed up as a klansman as a unattended kid. easy, and more frightening than a generic mummy. might not have been too smart though.
i guess as woster recently suggests, charlton heston, as a 2nd amendment caricature may rival nixon or reagan, for easy halloween frightful “targets”
And that visit from Obama will always be a cherished memory for me as I got to shake his hand (which I have a picture of except it’s just Obama and my hand. You have to have faith that it is my hand) and talk to him for a moment.
The Mitchell Daily Republic took a panoramic picture of Obama giving his speech and you can see me in it. Both pictures are proudly hanging in my man cave.
I wondered why Republicans thought if you tell the same lie long enough people will believe it. Well now I know, because that is how they are. Not long ago less than 25% of Republicans thought Trump was electable or at least they were against him themselves. Now with public opinion of Republicans only going his way they think the rest of us will as well. NOT
leslie, I had a similar “I did what?” moment on Halloween when I was a kid. For a time my family lived in a wonderful Jewish neighborhood in Minneapolis where I had many Jewish friends and enjoyed kosher meals and some religious events.
I was old enough to have learned about Nazis and WW II, but I had very little knowledge or understanding about the holocaust. I acquired a German Nazi war helmet from a friend and got the bright idea of going trick or treating wearing the stupid thing, costumed as a Nazi soldier. I can only imagine and regret how that made my neighbors feel.
Poor poor Donald, today he said that he hasn’t always had it so easy and that when he started out he had to borrow a Million Dollars, yes $1,000,000 from his father and pay it back with interest.
Here is Trump’s take on burka wearing women. I guess he thinks they are “low energy” like Bush and Carson.
