There was a mountain lion sighting in the 200 block of NE 1st Street, in Madison, around 11:30PM this evening. The mountain lion was believed to have been spotted traveling north. At this time, we have received no other reported sightings of the mountain lion.
We encourage all citizens to keep their pets indoors and to be aware if you are planning on going for a walk or jog.
The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks was notified of the sighting. Another sighting occurred earlier this evening about 4 miles south of Madison. At this time, we believe the mountain lion is likely just traveling through the area [Madison Police Department, FB post, 2023.10.18].
South of town earlier in the evening, heading toward Trinity Lutheran Church and Dairy Queen at midnight (DeLon! Lock those dumpsters!)… look out, Nunda! That mountain lion is headed your way!

Appears to be a pathetically small mountain lion, compared to the width of the sidewalk. Send him to iowa to fatten up on corn fed beef and hawgs.

A pathetically small mountain lion. Madison-level pathetic. Not a Black Hills of South Dakota quality kitty.

Near 100 % chance it is a Black Hills catamount, providing it really is a catamount.

  4. KELO teevee has the cougar on a ring camera so expect some Republican to kill it.

Looks like grudznick’s other neighbor’s mangy house cat to me.

Tail is too short to be a cougar, even a this-year’s kitten (mom was slaughtered in the Hills?) Large danged bobcat though.
