Rounds Endorses Scott Over Trump

In arguably good news, Senator M. Michael Rounds is breaking with traitor-despot Donald Trump and endorsing fellow Senator Tim Scott for the Republican nomination for President:

Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) has committed to backing his fellow Republican colleague Tim Scott (R-SC) as he prepares to launch a run for the White House in 2024.

Rounds has offered effusive praise for the South Carolina senator in recent days and on Wednesday revealed his endorsement in an interview with the Washington Examiner. He is the first senator to support the nascent campaign of Scott, who is expected to launch his candidacy in his hometown of North Charleston on Monday.

“I do,” the senator said when asked if he plans on endorsing Scott. “I’ve already told him I would.”

“I think he is the closest to Ronald Reagan that you’re going to see,” Rounds added.

…“He’ll bring our country together. He cares deeply about making the right decisions,” Rounds told the Washington Examiner. “I believe he will build a good team. He’s got a business background. He’s got a great personal story, and he understands and he truly cares about people” [David Sivak, “Tim Scott Picks up First Senate Endorsement Ahead of White House Announcement,” Washington Examiner, 2023.05.17].

Scott might help remove the stain of Trumpist corruption and violence from his and Rounds’s party brand, but he’ll still bring us the theocratic and misogynist dystopia that Rounds and friends are pushing. So Rounds’s endorsement promises only faint progress for true liberty and democracy.

I think either Trump or DeSantis paid Rounds to tout Scott.

Marjorie Taylor Greene and her Christian Nationalists support Donald Trump because they’re convinced he’s the Antichrist who will enable them to conquer the Seven Mountains. The End Times fulfill a prophesy and welcome a supernatural extraterrestrial to create a one-world government. No higher being could be anything but predatory. It’s dystopian fantasy run amok. Just say it: radical christianic terrorism.

Has anyone ever listened to Tim answer questions from reporters? He can use word salad and twist into more shapes than John Thune, and that’s saying something!

At least he’s not Mark Robinson.

Neither Tim nor Mike could identify and vote to convict criminal behavior when it counted. What’s changed?

    Mr. Trump is toast.

Republicans wanted a packed SCOTUS and they got that but Mr. Rounds won’t run when his term expires because Pierre is a must tinier pond than DC is. Besides, he’s lonely and life is far less satisfying without a bed partner.

All I can say is duck Senator. The Trumpsters will be after you

buckobear has nailed it. If Trump shows up in your neighborhood, the moral level of your neighborhood just hit rock bottom, and I’d say that for people who didn’t hold Trump accountable when they had a chance to nail the coffin shut on Trump’s political criminality. Tim Scott and Mike Rounds enabled Trump for four years, and neither Trump, Scott or Rounds is fit for office.

Vi Kingman, trumpeters might but Trump won’t come to South Dakota. Biden won’t either, why bother? There’s maybe 10 states that will see an appearance of the second coming. He’s a lying POS but he’s not totally stupid.

Vi Kingman hit the nail on the head.

How many signatures does Mr. Scott need to get on the ballot in South Dakota?
