Lying Traitor Pat Baumann Runs for District 30 House

A treason-talker is running for District 30 House. Pat Baumann of Custer announces his Republican candidacy in the Custer County Chronicle (which maybe needs to be respelled with Ks) with basic and base Trumpist lies, wildly exaggerating crowd size and praising the January 6 insurrection as a great patriotic awakening:

Pat Baumann, supporter of insurrection and the Big Lie, Republican candidate for District 30 House in South Dakota.
Pat Baumann, supporter of insurrection and the Big Lie, Republican candidate for District 30 House in South Dakota.

My wife and I were in Washington DC Jan. 6, 2021. We witnessed something that the major networks refused to cover. Standing shoulder to shoulder with an estimated million other concerned Americans, we became part of a great awakening. In addition to being awakened to the darkness that is creeping into our government, we were awakened to the realization that ‘we the people’ carry the light that will push that darkness back! [Pat Baumann, press release, Custer County Chronicle, 2022.01.20]

A million people did not stand shoulder to shoulder to listen to the loser of the 2020 election call for violent overthrow of the government. Baumann over states the number of protestors milling about on the mall by at least a factor of 10 and the pre-riot rally crowd by perhaps a factor of 100. The people like Baumann who cheer and promote the lies spread at that rally are not patriots; they are dupes at best, traitors at worst, but definitely not honest, level-headed, reliable defenders of the United States Constitution.

The only sentiments that January 6, 2021, should awaken in any patriot are disgust and determination never to allow such crimes against the Caitol and the Constitution to happen again. That Baumann cheers this day of infamy disqualifies him from holding any office requiring an oath to faithfully uphold the Constitution of the United States. That the Republican Party allows such an insurrectionist to run on its ticket should disqualify the entire party from electoral consideration.

District 30 already has two radical right-wing Representatives, Tim Goodwin from out by Sheridan Lake and Trish Ladner from Hot Springs. Neither is term-limited. Whether District 30 can come up with any better options remains to be seen.

One could say the language he and his ilk chooses is Orwellian in nature. Like “stop the steal.”

The complete reverse of their statements is the truth, like calling a democratic and fair election and the American transfer of power “the darkness that is creeping into our government.” Baumann and the thugs who are now the Republican Party are an existential threat to freedom in the United States of America. They thrive in darkness and slime, like cockroaches.

It’s baffling that Dan Lederman is able to keep his grip in the SDGOP while the extreme white wing hijacks the party.

QANON Pat, what a doofus. Add his daffy bride in the mix and you have ignorance bliss. Cory, that zinger on the KKK for the Kuster paper, was pretty sharp.

This guy makes my day. This is not just ignorance but sheer stupidity. What can you say other than calling out the basic lies of the base. At least he’s awake. He did miss that the day was overcast and he helped spread the darkness. I watched the major networks that day and they covered it well too. So he can’t count, that’s a problem with all the trumpies in DC. They are all larcenous liars aiding and abetting

This fellow has been fighting the woke mob down there in Custer City. But do not send him to the legislatures for the District numbered 30.

  6. Porter Lansing 2022-01-23 13:01

Anywhere in South Dakota has a “woke mob” of liberals?
    C’mon, man …

  7. Richard Schriever 2022-01-23 13:36

Porter we can only hope that this is a sign that a sense of sarcasm has somehow bubbled the the murky surface of what passes as grudz’ mind.

Bauman said: “In addition to being awakened to the darkness that is creeping into our government, we were awakened to the realization that ‘we the people’ carry the light that will push that darkness back! ” Look, people can have their hallucinations and delusions. Generally, we used to say, “Oh, that’s just Crazy Pat,” and let it go. There is some scary mass delusion, promoted by foreign and domestic supporters of totalitarians. The crazy and lazy sycophants, like Bauman should be in a padded cell, never in a place where they have any power to take away our rights,

“We the people” elected Joe Biden as President. Bauman may live in a community that voted for Trump. That’s fine. That’s their right.
But I live in a community that voted for Biden, and Bauman was in DC to take away my communites’ right to cast our ballots for the candidate we wanted. People of Bauman’s ilk thinks his community should vote, but my community should not. That ain’t democracy.
Bauman’s “people” are just the people he agrees with. My people are all the people, whether they agree with me or not. I believe in real democracy. Bauman believes in totalitarian autocracy.

The US Constitution’s 14th Amendment, Section 3, prevents Baumann from holding office.
Section 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

If elected, as soon as Baumann takes an oath of office and thereafter engages in, espouses or gives aid or comfort to insurrection – we must remove him from office.

    Why People Like Trump:
Finding common ground quickly promotes likeability.
Most people have little in common with Trump but many Americans live vicariously through Trump.
Trump’s success, popularity, and self-confidence fill the secret dreams of ordinary people.
To reject Trump is to render the aspirations of most Americans meaningless.
You might be surprised at how many people say they will not vote for Trump in public but will punch his name when the voting curtain closes.

I am all in favor of ‘stopping the steal’ which is being promoted, perpetrated and perpetuated by members of the Republican Party. Of course they are members of other organizations as well.

  12. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2022-01-23 17:00

96, Francis, it’s surprising and disturbing how often we can take Republican protest slogans and use them to describe exactly what Republicans are doing. We need to stop their steal. We need to stop their cancel culture. We need to stop their political correctness, now taking the form of their “Critical Erase Theory” (a phrase I’m happily stealing from Twitter).

Traitors like Baumann will set the stage for wrecking this country. He would have no qualms about rejecting honest election results, refusing to seat Democratic candidates who win their districts fair and square, and allowing a Republican governor to appoint Republcian replacements. We need to keep election stealers like Baumann out of the Legislature.

Larry, Lederman holds control over the SD GOP by keeping the SD GOP in power. Ultimately, he will learn the national lesson that accepting more and more treasonous, fundamentalist, extremists to hold that power ultimately poisons the organization, making it unrecognizable and detached from reason and democracy.

We yearn for the days when crony capitalism was the most concerning critique of GOP governance.

  14. larry kurtz 2022-01-23 20:28

Hey Zeus, Owen, do you believe Dan Lederman will be the first Jew to convert to christianism just before the End of Days?

  15. larry kurtz 2022-01-23 20:32

The extreme white wing of the Republican Party wants a not so civil war over CRT because oligarchs fear an admission of guilt implies liability and they will be compelled to pay reparations to Indigenous and to the descendants of enslaved people.

Ha, more of the same. He belongs in Pierre like gas buildup in the colon and probably just as stink. More inept inbred Republicans.

Candidate Pat will fit in well with the herd of stupidity passing laws, holding meetings, eating, passing gas and doing self important things or something. Commerce in the Pierre does well during this time… like Sturgis in August except not as classy or wealthy.

The candidate’s dislike for any human not in his image is known so not much would change for those not n his likeness.

Let the unwinding of the State and U.S. Constitutions begin.

  17. John Dale 2022-01-24 20:41

    That headline, tho ..

We are in a rebooted Weimar Republic with this kind of information architecture and rhetoric.

  18. Mark Anderson 2022-01-25 01:13

John Dale,, “Outside it is winter, but in here it is so hot. Ooo
Every night we have to battle with the girls to keep them from taking off
all of their clothings So don’t go away tonight, we may lose the battle..”
Lyrics from a wonderful Cabaret show presented by CRT. That’s a theatre in Connecticut
    of course.

  19. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2022-01-25 07:04

Yup, John, that headline is accurate. Baumann is a liar and a traitor to the rule of law and the Constitution.

I fear we are in a rebooted Weimar Republic with putschists agitating to installing the new Reich. We must fight the putschists.

  20. larry kurtz 2022-01-25 07:35

    Epp, stupid autocorrekt.

  21. Chris Reynolds 2022-01-25 11:03

More canting nonsense from yet another 1/6 insurrectionist who believes God has ordained him to shepherd the rest of us. We need legislators who will protect water, not walk on it.
