2021 Blog Year in Review: Most Popular Outclicks from Dakota Free Press

Happy New Year! It’s 2022, so pass me some of that tasty Soylent Green, and let’s see what you ingredients were reading while the world came undone in 2021.

Hyperlinks embody the indispensible blog ethos of “see for yourself” of Dakota Free Press and of any other online publication seeking to educate the public. Almost every Dakota Free Press post includes multiple hyperlinks to quoted sources, supporting material, and related articles from the DFP archive, not to mention occasional tangential reading and funny stuff. I sometimes spend more time looking for articles to link than writing the actual text that appears in my articles, because hyperlinks matter that much. No blog is an island; our words live in context, and this amazing technology at our fingertips, in which we connect our words to those of others with these magical <a href="Insert your URL here"> tags, help us better understand our words and their place in the world of thought and fact.

You blog readers get this. You click a lot of the links I place on Dakota Free Press. Here’s a list of the web addresses that received 100 clicks or more in 2021:

Wow. Couldn’t be more appreciative of the support and interest we get at The South Dakota Standard from you and your readers, Cory. People should know that you were very instrumental and helpful in getting my blogging ventures going over the years.

Thank you Cory for your accuracy and your pursuit of well-researched and sourced information. As we watch newspapers bite the dust (today and Christmas Day, the Sioux Falls PRAVDA Leader chose to not publish) throughout South Dakota, the new platform for reliable state news in the foreseeable future will include public radio, the Rapid City and Sioux Falls-based TV stations and the online services of South Dakota Standard, South Dakota News Watch and Dakota Free Press. The Aberdeen and Watertown dailies’ merger appears to be failing. PRAVDA Leader is now publishing in Iowa, which makes its news two or three days old. The RC Journal is fading in as are the dailies in Yankton, Pierre, Huron, Brookings and Madison. They’ve shrunk in relevance, size and subscriptions, which is very sad. Their future rests somewhere between dissolution or morphing into two-day weeklies, shoppers or 100 percent online media.
