Goodwin Frets Special Session May Cut into Veterans’ Day Speech Time

Representative Tim Goodwin (R-30/Rapid City) would rather make speeches than do his job in Pierre:

I am concerned about having a time crunch trying to accomplish too much in just a two-day Special Session. I have no idea how long the impeachment proceedings will take, nor do I know how long the redistricting will take.

I do know that Veterans’ Day is November 11 and that I’m speaking at the Veterans’ Ceremony at the Little White Church at noon in Hill City. Don’t be fooled by the “little” in the name. It actually is quite large.

I say that in case anyone wants to extend Special Session. It would be unpatriotic and inappropriate to have Session on Veterans’ Day. I will do everything in my power to stop that from happening and if it does, I’ll be at the Little White Church at noon on Veterans’ Day even if we go all night on the 10 of November [Rep. Tim Goodwin, “Special Session Packing a Lot into a Couple of Days,” Rapid City Journal, 2021.10.20].

Come on, Tim: most South Dakotans will be working that day; don’t you think that doing the once-a-decade job of drawing fair Legislative maps and the first-in-history job of considering the impeachment of a South Dakota elected official warrants putting off your holiday speech?

  1. Goodwin is an ALEC disciple but the good news is the South Dakota Republican Party has an alien in its belly.

Mixed in with the copious narratives about the horrific Republican culture of corruption, lack of student preparedness, rampant teacher flight and soul-killing Trumpist insurgencies there is still more bad news coming from the central and southern Black Hills.

In 2019 in a town named for a war criminal South Dakota’s Republican District 30 legislators, Reps. Tim Goodwin, Julie Frye-Mueller and Sen. Lance Russell held court with administrators and board staff from three counties. Nearly everybody in the room said they felt helpless as they lose local control to Pierre.

All three District 30 representatives voted against the budget a year ago, and pledged to those in attendance they would do so again if it did not include the required education increase. Hill City School District Board of Education member Dennis Krull said he believes the cap takes away local control, and said Hill City stands to lose $269,000 because of the cap.

So, are the people that have to work on Veterans’ Day unpatriotic, or is it just if Goodwin has to work that it’s unpatriotic? Was he drunk when he made that statement? Did he think about all the people who have to work to put on a Veterans’ Day event that he gets to speak at? Are they “unpatriotic?” You can tell he doesn’t care about them. He’s only concerned about his time in the limelight. If Rep. Goodwin doesn’t want to do his job, he should resign. Otherwise, he should do his job, and stop whining.

Francis, I had an uncle die ‘over there’ the next day; posthumously given the French Croix de Guerre
war medal. Fortunately for his family, the ody was delivered back to his homeland-South Dakota forburial. I.m sure, he was working on the 11th of November! \
Trouble is, Goodwin, like way too many of his legisative cohorts of South Dakota, feel they are entitled by their success in becoming a legislator entitles them to serve themselves, not those they were elected by….

Worried about missing a photo op? Is he thinking of going for Thune’s job? ;-)

Trump refused to attend Veterans Day Services at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery. It is where the Marine Corps dead from the WWI battle of Belleau Wood are buried. Belleau Wood is one of the battles that will live forever in Marine Corps history.

Another life-long Democrat turned “Republican” to get elected.

Meanwhile, as Veterans’ Day approaches we can count on former President Trump to set the proper mood. We know Trump doesn’t like veterans who got shot down over North Vietnam and were imprisoned and tortured. He also doesn’t particularly like veterans who endorsed the man who defeated him soundly in the safest and securest election in history. Well, sure, Colin Powell made mistakes, but, unlike Trump, he owned those mistakes, didn’t try to make excuses or fabricate some false narrative around his failures to make them seem better.

Someone tell Goodwin that all the Great War vets are dead. The US has too many military “holidays”. In the grand national scope consider that the US does not have a holiday commemorating the end of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War (the war that killed the most Americans), the Spanish-American War, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the Iraq War, or the Afghanistan War. Psst, no one cares, so sayeth this combat vet who had 4 relatives serve in combat in WWI.
Given the choice between upholding democracy by impeaching Ravnsborg and investigating the abuses of the part-time governor verses giving a speech no one will remember . . . Goodwin’s duty is to uphold democracy in Pierre. Man, we’ve fallen sooo far that guard colonel is unable or incapable of figuring that out.

Religious far right nut job Bob Fisher, and Goodwin buddy (I think), has his annual Veterans Day Sale’s Event at all three of his stores. Car dealerships and damned near anyone who has something to sell, has their sales at this time. The newspapers have huge ads on their print papers for this sales nonsense. As a combat wounded, disabled veteran, I could give two craps about this day anymore. It did used to mean something when I was a kid, but those days are long gone. Goodwin needs to do his job and stop using veterans as a crutch to his incompetence. You dummies have all the information you need to impeach this murderer, get the job done. Do it for the veterans you claim to support.

Meanwhile, we taxpayers are shelling out billions more for shells that will mean more veterans. That money could be used to build infrastructure to provide energy to keep us all from starving in the very near future.

Mr. jerry makes some good good sense, here.

  13. grudznick

That Mr. Goodwin made colonel in the Army is a scary scary deal.

Meanwhile, active military families go hungry. Meanwhile veterans go hungry while Goodwin and his lying bunch of frauds do nothing but posture with more and more lying.

“The Senate Appropriations Committee, in a report this week accompanying its new Defense spending bill, expressed concern over reports of thousands of military families suffering from hunger.

“Studies have found that one in eight military families were food insecure prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and this number has now grown to one in five,” the report said.

Back in June, the House Appropriations Committee’s comparable report had called the development “alarming” https://www.rollcall.com/2021/10/22/lawmakers-decry-alarming-hunger-in-u-s-military-families/

Man, we spend a billion or two to get these war birds at Ellsworth while troops go hungry. Bomb the hell out of people but we cannot feed our own military family’s. Goodwin, pull your head out troop and start doing your duty. Put this murderer on trial, stop being AWOL.

Really not sure how that guy keeps getting elected. Every time I see him interviewed on the news, it looks like he’s had a few…

  16. Jake

Meanwhile, as some military families suffer food scarcitym we have in South Dakota an Attorney General (Top Cop) who is worried he won’t get his promotion to full-bird Colonel to feed heavier from the trough than he already does. And, a local legislator, Goodwin, is expressing concern that he may have to go without sleep a little or work a little bit harder on the issue of impeaching him for his killing of a pedestrian and deal with his party’s governor’s misconduct and gerrymander districts all at the same time! Sooo nuch to do-so little time!

  17. ArloBlundt

Well..I think Goodwin is looking for an excuse not to vote on the Ravensborg impeachment. I think there are many other Senators who are luke-warm on pulling the trigger for the Governor. These Senators don’t owe the Governor anything, are in safe districts, and feel a couple of traffic misdemeanors don’t call for such drastic action. After all, it could happen to anyone who uses a cell phone while driving at night.

  18. Well Larry, Hill City lost Sue and sold Stan. For 31 million! That little building has as many Dinosaurs as a big museum. Now every rancher west river will start digging. A big triceratops was sold too that came from east of Rapid. Money in the ground, start digging, folks. No laws against it the United States. I’m sure they’ll think of something in Pierre, won’t they? Love that town of Hill City, total tourist trap but fun all the way.

  19. Jake, it remains inconceivable to me that any legislator would be looking for reasons to leave Ravnsborg in office. He’s a disgrace to the office and to the Army Reserve. Goodwin could boost his patriotism score by kicking that killer out of office.

  20. Bob Newland

    That moron was an officer?

  21. grudznick

The word on the streets of Hill City is that Mr. Goodwin is not the author of Grouse 2.4, which seems to have gained traction amongst the legislatures across both aisles. Grouse 2.4 is not as kind to Mr. Goodwin’s district but leaves Ms. Taffy mostly alone.
