Now killer Jason Ravnsborg is just rubbing it in our faces. Having clung to his job as Attorney General for seven months after killing a man by his reckless driving, Ravnsborg now brags about getting on the list for his long-sought promotion to full Colonel in the Army Reserves:
No impeachment, no felony charges, and now his little eagle—justice is hard to find in South Dakota. Well, now that Jason may qualify for higher Army pay and pension he wanted, maybe he can finally resign from the Attorney General’s office.
Sad, sad, sad. I knew many privates in the Army that were far better men than this wimpy piece of humanity could ever be.
Look at the bright side – if he gets promoted, that pension becomes a guaranteed revenue stream in any judgement from a civil case.
Continue to stick the victim’s family’s noses in the complete lack of accountability. Unbelievable.
This is disgraceful. This is also all on the Biden administration and South Dakota Democrats. Unbelievable that they voted against impeachment And failed to bring any type of resolution condemning the illegal killing of this poor man or the abusive of office that persists.
He has clearly been under charged and the attorney generals office which would normally review such circumstances is prevented from doing so because the attorney general himself is the subject of the crime.
Of course someone tried to blame the federal government for lack of enforcement of state law.
Kill someone and still get promoted. The standards are set very low aren’t they?
The legislatures need to man up and give this fellow the Boot. Stop being mean to transkids and start being mean to this rotten egg, you crazies!
Can the Commander-in-Chief override a Colonel promotion?
Much as i dislike Republican lack of integrity in all matters, Cheneys must be gleefully happy in their Jackson Hole gated communities over Matt Geatz’ perfect demonstration of ignorance of professional ethics on the world stage.
Dems are getting an extraordinary boost. McConnell, he’s next? Haha. I can see WY from my house! What happens in WY happens in SD.
Isn’t there a path to PETITION the President in the White House over federal Injustice? Wouldn’t do any good to petition Slippery Kristi….
The colonel promotion list must be approved by a vote of the US Senate. Rounds, Thune or any other US Senator could put a hold on the vote.
ps … President Biden is also going to pay for America’s progress with moderate to large cuts in the military budget.
*automatic promotions like this one are symptomatic of military waste.
Let’s be clear folks, he has NOT been promoted yet. I’m guessing they will wait until his case is settled to make a decision. If I was a betting man, he won’t make Colonel. He might even be lucky enough not to receive a court marshal or discharge. As I understand it, Jason Rumblestrips is a transportation specialist in the Army, and this doesn’t look good.
Detroit is correct. The killer is on a list from the promotion board. It’s likely the sequestered promotion board knew nothing of the killing and its circumstances. It’s likely the Secretary of the Army knew nothing that the victim’s face entered Ravnsborg’s windshield. The Secretary of Defense has not reviewed or sent a consolidated list from the 8 presidentially commissioned services (Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, NOAA, and Space Force) to the President for consideration of nomination. The President has not reviewed the list of potential nominees. Finally, the Senate has yet to provide its confirmation. One senator can put a hold on the list (and have in the past). I’m aghast he’s on the list. I’ll be shocked and mortified for the republic if he remains on the list, is nominated, and confirmed. Ravnsborg amateurishly spiked the ball before crossing the goal line.
Fire up your letter / email writing campaign to stop this miscarriage of justice for “conduct unbecoming”, et. al.
well…does he have a combat infantry badge.? Has he been actively engaged in ground combat with the enemy.?
The National Guard is night and day different than Active Service. If he was full time active duty stationed somewhere, his rank would have been stripped, and he would have been in so much more trouble right after the details of his accident involving Joe Boever became known.
Arlo, Combat Infantry Badge is only awarded to Infantryman during Combat. Those who saw action but NOT as an Infantryman are awarded Combat Action Badges which is my understanding he does have.
John, if the list is just a list and not final promotion, as Detroit says, does the final decision-maker take public comment? Who is the final decision-maker? How do we contact that person or panel?
If the promotion list is just a list and not final promotion, it seems odd that Ravnsborg would get out in front with this bragging. Is her really that tone deaf?
It states, in 2021 South Dakota Legislature Senate Resolution 701: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that it is requested that upon congressional passage the name of each person awarded a Medal of Honor for the acts noted above be removed from the Medal of Honor Roll enabled under section 1134a of title 10 of the United States Code.
The military issued Medals of Honor to soldiers for the senseless murders of children, women and in man in the state of South Dakota in 1890 at Wounded Knee.
Too bad the inbred Republican party was to busy going after weeders and transgenders to clean up their backyard. But, there is the 2022 session to clean out their slop pail. Or not.
They said on the TV last night that the Army knows about Mr. Ravnsborg’s misdeeds, and they are looking harder at this. You fellows need to help make a more public stink about this so the Army is shamed, shamed I say, into revoking Mr. Ravnsborg from the list.
Yes, Cory, it seems Jason spiked the football too soon. You are also correct, he is this ignorant and tone deaf. This is the same guy who doesn’t have a passcode on his personal cell phone, doesn’t bring an attorney with him to a voluntary interegation, and surfs the web while driving at night. It shouldn’t shock anyone he spoke too soon. In some weird way he probably thinks it will help his case.
SD Dems voted against impeachment ? Wow. That tells me all I need to know about D Party. Never will they serve as Governor. If they get a majority in House or Senate, they will vote elephant Taliban.
The Democrats are Republicans now. Against impeachment? Unbelievable.
New Party is needed.
I have noticed that some folks have discovered an interesting psychological weapon (or maybe have inadvertantly fallen into a trap) to attack Democrats. A Democrat might support 95% of progressives’ goals but disagrees on a single issue (or even favor only 75% or 60% of progressive goals), while the other party supports absolutely none (or maybe 5%) of progressive goals. For example, the top Republican Senator, McConnell, publicly declares Republicans should vote no on every single progressive proposal from the Biden administration.
Instead of focusing on the significantly greater support from Democrats on most progressive issues, the folks that employ this psychologal weapon designed to depress and discourage progressives from voting for Democratics, will try hard to focus all attention on the single progessive issue opposed by this Democrat, while ignoring that Democrat’s stand on all other important progressive matters. Then not only do they attack this particular Democrat, they project his or her supposed failure in not supporting the particular issue to all Democrats and assert the Democratic party is worthless or turncoat. I am not all that sure how effective this weapon is for discouraging votes for members of the only party offering the most support for progessive issues, but it seems to be frequently repeated here of DFP and elsewhere.
For example, one commenter implies Democrats are responsible for the failure of the legislature to impeach Ravnsberg because apparently Democrats as a block didn’t not vote for impeachment, even though the legislature is overwhelming Republican. Since many progressives wanted Ravnsberg impeached, suddenly the psychologicasl weapon is now employed to assert Democrats have become the enemy, with no mention or apparent regard for the positive progressive goals Democrats support (and Republicans oppose). It is then argued that the Democratic party is essentially worthless and should not be supported due to the vote on this single issue (or in some a cases more than one issue) despite the party’s positive support for so many other issues that a progressive wants supported.
This simply makes no sense for progressives. It does make sense, however, for Republican operatives and propagandasts to pretend to be progressives and demean Democrats for a particular anti-progressive vote (if that is what it actually is) to weaken whatever support exists for electing Democrats in the future. While it always makes sense to advocate for the support of whatever progressive legislation one hopes to see passed, wholesale attacks on Democrats that disagree on that particular issue is tantamont to “throwing the baby out with the bathwater.”
BCB is a nice person. Polite and empathetic. I’m always in awe of the tolerance.
I however don’t listen to or give a darn about what Republicans think or want.
After Trump, why bother?
We’re going somewhere and Republicans can either help push or stand by and watch because bi-partisanship goes away when Leader McConnell advises his team to obstruct us.
Porter, thanks for your kind words. Sorry for all the typos in my last post!
Like it or not, bcb speaks truth as it is spoken among men. I am not happy with some of his pronouncements, vut I know he is right.
Cory: there are 2 “final decision makers”. The first is POTUS. The second is the body of the senate who must “consent” – just like a cabinet nomination and other high offices of the US executive branch. It’s not unheard of for a senator to put a hold on a list to force removal of a name.
Along the way beforehand the Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of Defense vet the list before making the recommendation to POTUS. It is not uncommon for names to fall off the list for a myriad of reasons (voluntary retirement, further investigation, subsequent incident, etc.).
Interesting, John: do the Senate and the President directly approve every promotion? All the way down to corporals and privates?

What is so Progressive for Democrats saying No on Ravensborgg impeachment? It isn’t.
SD Democrats are trained by out of touch leaders to vote Elephant on many issues. Losing for 43 years, not standing up for progressive values.
