Noem Moves from Not Interested to Not Ruling Out Run for President in 2024

Absentee Governor Kristi Noem is shifting her public position on her White House aspirations. After insisting in July, right after her fireworks show and Air Force One ride to Washington with Donald Trump, that she doesn’t want to go back to Washington

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem on Wednesday said she is not interested in running for president in 2024 and would rather stay in South Dakota.

…“I spent eight years in Washington, D.C.,” Noem said, referring to her tenure as a congresswoman. “I am so happy to be home in South Dakota” [“Noem Says She Is Not Interested in 2024 Presidential Run,” AP, 2020.07.09].

Lewandowski’s still-ill-groomed poodle pivots in New Hampshire to the well-worn and significant coy dodge that might as well be a declaration of Presidential intent: she’s not ruling anything out:

During her trip to New Hampshire, Noem made a quick visit for breakfast at the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester, which has long been a must-stop for White House hopefuls. The governor spoke with customers and the kitchen staff. And when she arrived at the Trump New Hampshire headquarters to greet staff and volunteers, a woman in the crowd yelled out “Kristi for 2024.”

…Noem isn’t ruling anything out when it comes to her political future.

“I haven’t even ruled out what I’m doing tomorrow,” she said [Paul Steinhauser, “On the Trail: Coronavirus Spurs New Fight Over Out-of-State College Student Voting Eligibility,” Concord Monitor, 2020.10.16].

Noem most certainly has an idea of what she’s doing tomorrow, and it’s not fighting coronavirus or governing South Dakota. She’s assembling her national campaign team. She’s on the road rousing a national base. She’s cranking up the volume on her official Governor’s Twitter account to spread anti-Biden propaganda that has nothing to do with South Dakota and everything to do with the messages she’ll need to use to establish herself as the leader of the opposition to President Biden. She’ll watch Trump lose on November 3, figure out how far she has to triangulate her message to re-arouse Trump’s dejected followers while not alienating too big a portion of the Trump rejectors, and then announce sometime in 2015.

So it is happy to be in South Dakota? Can you pin down a day she was actually there?

  2. Dan B. 2020-10-18 10:32

Seriously, how do we begin the recall process on Garden Noem????

  3. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2020-10-18 11:12

Sorry, Dan: when it comes to Governor, we have to get our vote right the first time. South Dakota only provides for recall of municipal officials.

But we can elect a whole bunch of Democrats to the Legislature to force her to negotiate a better budget.

Once they find out how antigay she is (probably endorses gay conversion therapy), the press will have a field day with her. She will be brought down to reality and fall hard.
The far majority of Americans support gay marriage, including many Republicans. When you hang out with far right kooks it’s easy to feel you are at the top of the field.
Endorsing nonmask wearing will come back to haunt her also after another 200,000 Americans die this winter.
The reality is most American voters are more moderate than she is. Most voters do not want Roe v Wade repealed. Most votes do not want the ACA repealed, they want it expanded.
Of course it’s fun when you just have rallies with your far right supporters and only go on Fox news. You need more than the racist 30% of the electorate. Today’s moderate republicans want to get away from their ‘racist southern democrat of the past’ image. Noem is too close to Trumpism to do that.

Ha! She can’t even manage a state much less trying to lead the country! Stick to riding your horse Noem and trying to shoot those pheasants you thought you could protect with your absurd predator bounty program!

  6. Owen 2020-10-18 11:59

She better worry about 2022. She’s not going to get by that (I hope)

  7. Loren 2020-10-18 12:50

    Run! Kristi! Run!

trump blew through 1 Billion and is working on the next 250 million on his campaign. GNOem can see how this whole thing works to generate money for her pocket. She will hire the first dude, as he is clearly not a smart man, a patsy. Direct money to him for some kind of campaign work related business, and there you go, collect the dough. She knows that she would probably not even carry this state when the clown car starts. That doesn’t matter, it’s all about the benjamin’s. Lew knows the tricks, so you can bet he will continue to groom her for his share of the grift.

The GNOem platform is the same platform the republican party has right now… nothing, so this will not be a hard hill for her to climb. She will run against Q ANON in the zoo primary’s, as an outsider…that is really one of them, for another drubbing.

I, for one, look forward to have Mr. H in the legislatures and Ms. Noem back in the District of Columbia

    Pretty good Mr. Claussen

Jenny, I welcome Noem’s national candidacy and all the attention it will draw from national investigative journalists. Millions in farm subsidies, the lies about the estate tax….

HHH, George McGovern and (almost) Tom Daschle were South Dakota presidential candidates who actually wanted to serve the USA.

    How’s that for contrast?

  15. buckobear 2020-10-18 23:56

Hurry ….. build the fence !!

  16. mike from iowa 2020-10-19 08:39

Remember how fast wingnut lege in South Dakota changed the rules so if Daschle ran for potus he would have to surrender his Senate seat and be replaced by a doofus wingnut?

  17. o 2020-10-19 08:49

Mike, don’t worry, that was changed back when Thune was giving a look to that possibility.

  18. Korey Jackson 2020-10-19 08:54

    Hmmm.

There is a Facebook Group called “Kristi Noem for President 2024”, with 14K members.

  19. Dave 2020-10-19 09:04

she is selling t-shirts and sweatshirts now… some with the state seal… i didn’t think that was legal? tell me again why our governor needs to sell t-shirts? do the proceeds go the education department? check out Store.KristiforGovernor.com

drumpf says he will run in 2024 if he loses this election, and, he forgot to say he might be in prison and ineligible to run.

I remember that, O. I wish Dems could change rules as whimsical as wingnuts.

  21. jerry 2020-10-19 10:21

With a GNOem/trump ticket, here is the stupid you will get.

““If you vote for Biden, he will surrender your jobs to China. He will surrender your future to the virus. He’s going to lock down, he’s going to want us to lock down,” Trump said.

“He’ll listen to the scientists,” Trump continued. “If I listened totally to the scientists, we would right now have a country that would be in a massive depression, instead of, we’re like a rocket ship. Take a look at the numbers.”” trump campaign rally in Carson City, Nevada 10.18.20

Yeah, that Joe Biden, having the audacity to believe scientists that say the earth is round and that we have a Space Station…oh and vaccines…Vote for trump if you want to stay stupid.

Noem/Paul is most definitely on the table.

    GIRL POWER!

I have a lot of juicy content at PlainsTribune dot com right now for those of you who want to face fear.

    I just saw COVID Kristi’s self-promotion t-shirts ad: https://store.kristiforgovernor.com/

It’s a cartoonish picture of her as Uncle Sam pointing at you, saying “WE WANT YOU” and “South Dakota open for business”. Below that is a notice DON’T MISS OUT … O N T H E N E W GOVERNOR KRISTI NOEM SWAG
    ORDER HERE

So, this is the priority while the pandemic spirals out of control because the jerk in the Uncle Sam clown suit made no attempt to protect the public. Sickening.

It’s just been one big spree while that fool runs for president … in 2024! Hey, COVID Kristi, it’s 2020 and your constituents are suffering and dying. Do your job (or at least give the appearance of it) and drop the t-shirt hawking and campaign stops in other states.

SD, under the followership of Kruel Kristi and the SDGOP is a massive fustercluck, top to bottom.

First, there is her level of callousness. She has absolutely no regard for the deaths and permanent disabilities C-19 is causing and will cause.

    Second, the spineless SDGOP.

South Dakotans, you have my sincere sympathy.

Excellent links gentlemen. I’ve been saying the GOP needs to start over. Call it the Lincoln Party and look to him and Eisenhower for your founding principles.

Sounds like Chase Rice is a good fit for Kruel Kristi. He’s happy to kill off his fans, is a pro at double speak and real country music people think he’s a jacka$$.

Yup, they’re a match made in egotistical idiocy.

    Rolling Stone endorsed Biden.

“His keen understanding of loss connects him emotionally to the honest struggles of Americans whom he seeks to serve. And it gives Biden the moral authority to ask the rest of us to sacrifice as well. Biden calls us to the responsibilities of citizenship — to think of ourselves as threads in the fabric of our society, of owing allegiance to one another, individually and as a whole, and of seeing ourselves connected to the values at the core of the American experiment.”
