Coronavirus Erases Decade of Job Growth—Time for Competent Management

Coronavirus has wiped out the Obama jobs recovery:

More than 3.8 million workers in the US filed for unemployment benefits last week as the country faced the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. More than 30 million American workers have filed unemployment claims since the beginning of statewide lockdowns in response to the coronavirus pandemic in March. That number far exceeds the 22.4 million new jobs created since November 2009 at the end of the last recession [Shannon Jones, “As US Unemployment Reaches Great Depression Levels, Millions Still Unable to Obtain Assistance,” World Socialist Web Site, 2020.05.01].

Donald Trump showed no ability to improve on Barack Obama’s job growth numbers, even years removed from the recession from which the Obama Administration had to save us. Rebuilding the American workforce after coronavirus will take more than daily improv and Lysol injections. It will take competent, experienced leadership, and now in his fourth year on the job and especially amidst the biggest crisis of his term, Trump has demonstrated zero capacity for competence or learning from experience. Vote for new management in November!

    mfi, Faulty tests in Iowa, Utah, and Nebraska show just how badly competent management is needed to deliver competent judgement.

    “Shares in Co-Diagnostics tripled in late February, when it received certification to sell its coronavirus test in Europe. On April 3, the day the state signed its contract with Nomi, Co-Diagnostics received emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to sell its test in the United States.

    Now the company is supplying thousands of tests in Iowa and Nebraska, where state officials last week issued no-bid contracts worth more than $50 million to Nomi and the TestUtah team.” https://www.sltrib.com/news/2020/04/30/this-is-potential-public/

    How can workers and the general public depend on safety measures when those that are doing these tests are marketed on Wall Street? A no bid $50 million dollar contract? What could go wrong?

    Good on your Attorney General. The Attorney General here can’t spell gouging, so no danger in a lawsuit coming from him.

    Florida is no longer publishing covid19 deaths. Silly me, I thought we Americans were accusing China of that sort of thing. So the numbers will be for 49 states only.

    The U.S. saw its largest one-day death toll from the coronavirus pandemic to date on Thursday as several states began to reopen parts of their economies.

    According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), 2,909 people in the U.S. died on Thursday, shattering the previous record of 2,471 deaths reported on April 23, CNBC reported.

  11. How can Florida not release that data? Don’t we have to know the trajectory of infections and deaths in order to responsibly implement or scale back reopening measures?

    After seeing and reading this, you kinda get the idea that Florida’s trajectory is straight down and only about them, to hell with the rest of the 49, it’s all about Florida.

    “Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) argued on Sunday that Republican controlled states might lose their “competitive advantage” if states controlled by Democrats receive coronavirus relief funds.

    “Florida, we were flush before this,” DeSantis told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo. “Obviously, this is going to hit our revenues because you’ve had key sectors of our economy like tourism that have taken a huge hit.”

    “It’s one thing to help a state with lost revenue from the pandemic,” he continued. “But this pandemic should not be used to bail out obligations that were run up over 20 or 30 years. I think that would be very unfair to the states that have done it well.”

    “And so, I think if you’re going to make a state whole from pre-pandemic, that’s one thing,” DeSantis said. “But to go beyond that and to bail out pensions or to do things like that, a lot of these states weren’t being managed properly and I wouldn’t want to see Florida and Texas lose our competitive advantage because they are getting bailout money and we’re not.” https://crooksandliars.com/2020/05/ron-desantis-says-red-states-will-lose

    We shouldn’t be so sure of our testing results here either. We went a long time with a lot of burials that we will never be sure of and a lot of pneumonia cases that were thought of as just that were never tested. Speaking of testing, trumps inner circle and friends, have a test that gives results in 15 minutes. NOem knows all about those tests as she has received them. Someone should ask her about that, but the sniveling little twerp would just lie.

    Florida report, corruption at it’s finest and why else? trump has his headquarters there is a pretty good reason. Thick as thieves for sure.

    “State officials have stopped releasing the list of coronavirus deaths being compiled by Florida’s medical examiners, which has at times shown a higher death toll than the state’s published count.

    The list had previously been released in real time by the state Medical Examiners Commission. But earlier this month, after the Tampa Bay Times reported that the medical examiners’ death count was 10 percent higher than the figure released by the Florida Department of Health, state officials said the list needed to be reviewed and possibly redacted.”https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2020/04/29/florida-medical-examiners-were-releasing-coronavirus-death-data-the-state-made-them-stop/

    By all means, Florida is open for business. Go there and just beware of the consequences. Also, remember that Daytona has a big rally there as well, so we can expect the biker crowd to bring us covid without a doubt. Between 4th of July and the Rally, bad times ahead going into the fall.

    Here’s a silver lining amidst the current bleak news – Reaganism is dead. The era a small, incompetent government is dead. The people will no longer stand for the myths of Reaganism.

    In addition to UBI & national health that’s independent of job status – we should receive FDR’s 2d Bill of Rights: Among these are:

    The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
    The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
    The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
    The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
    The right of every family to a decent home;
    The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
    The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
    The right to a good education.

    Final body count for today. My 70k prediction for tonight came up short and the 28% death rate of cases with outcomes seems awfully high. But it is what drumpf is.
