Johnson Supports… What, Utter Recklessness with Our Armed Forces?

Congressman Dusty Johnson says he supports Donald Trump’s approach to Iran.

Maybe Congressman Johnson should speak to some actual military experts and consider supporting the troops instead of Il Duce. Current and former officials tell Politico that Trump’s reckless behavior in the Middle East is putting our troops and our global military power at risk:

As the military conflict with Iran deepens, the president’s behavior is hamstringing the U.S. military, warned nearly a dozen current and former officials. In particular, Trump’s threats to commit violations of international law are fueling perceptions in the Muslim world that the U.S. military is little more than an imperial occupying force.

…”The institution is losing its credibility because it is continually being politicized, it’s politically being antagonized and it’s seen … as a Defense Department that’s either out of touch, that’s rogue, that’s partisan, [or] that’s lawless,” said a former senior military officer who served in the Trump administration and requested anonymity to speak freely.

“You don’t know what’s solid and what’s reliable,” added a former senior Pentagon official who served in the Trump administration [Bryan Bender and Jacqueline Feldscher, “‘It’s Terrible’: Fears Grow That Trump Is Kneecapping the Pentagon,” Politico, 2020.01.08].

Dusty, please, turn off your partisan auto-respond and acknowledge the recklessness of the current Administration. The sooner we get back to having a real President who acts on evidence and expert advice for the good of the nation, the better.

This guy is absolutely worthless. I have written to him a few times and gotten then standard reply of, “Thank you for contacting me. I am concerned. I don’t always agree with the President. Nancy Pelosi is blocking things. The Obama administration shoulda, woulda, coulda,…” Then, he votes the GOP line each and every time, no dissent, no questions. He seems to be SD’s very own Susan Collins.

Recently, in a KELO interview, Dusty proudly proclaimed, that during his most recent trip to the Middle East, he was personally informed by the head of Israeli intelligence, that Soleimani was the most dangerous person in the Middle East; but did he really have to go on an expensive junket like that to learn such an answer? Couldn’t he have just Googled it?

I assume Dusty learned about military stuff by reading Sergeant Rock comic books.

Trump’s approach to Iran has been a complete cluster****. Can’t wait till his four years are over so we can get back to some sanity.

Obama had the right approach: easing Iran into more appropriate behavior through sanctions, carrots and diplomacy, not bluster and force. Iran was on much better behavior as they were negotiating that deal and after. There were far fewer attacks carried out by their proxies. Since Trump scuttled the deal, the attacks by proxy forces have increased.

Trump supposedly rejected neo-con claptrap during his campaign, but never seemed able to put that into his Iran approach, which in his mind had more to do with his hatred for Obama. So, his approach to Iran was set up for him by the neo-cons, who used his mentally ill Obama fixation to great effect. Trump is just dumb and manipulable. Putin did it. So did the neo-cons.

Trump says he doesn’t want endless war or regime change, yet he’s too dumb and too weak to understand and stand up to people who maneuver him into neo-con policies, such as ending the JCPOA (the Iran nuclear deal) and assassination in someone else’s land, thus violating their sovereignty.

Dusty should be smart enough to see this. He’s just a coward, and can’t say it.

In the meantime, here at home, Puerto Rico has suffered a major earthquake with no assistance from the government. Puerto Rico is not like South Dakota in it’s capacity as a state versus a territory, but it is similar to what Chubby and Dirty are telling us here. You have a disaster, and you fix it. We ain’t gonna help ya.

Iran just did what Chubby did over chocolate cake with China’s leader, bomb the hell out of an empty space with cruise missiles. Remember what these Iranian guys missiles did to Saudi Arabia’s oil refinery, they hit all targets precisely to knock them out of production. American troops are sitting ducks in the sandbox. Iraq told us to pick up our toys and leave and I think that is one helluva plan. Iran, China and Russia are more capable in handling the Mid East, we are too much like Israel.

Dirty Johnson should just go back to being dirty, as his statements prove. Collect his checks from his handlers and plan his lucrative retirement.

Iran missed our base on purpose. ImPotus lies again.

  7. o 2020-01-08 14:54

Mike, in his defense, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar never said the photo was not photoshopped.

  8. o 2020-01-08 14:59

Bad energy policy, especially the reliance on fossil fuel, forces us to have crisis like this on far too regular of a basis. The warmongers, theocrats, and profiteers need to be kept away from the Mid-East powder keg; only sustainable, domestically produced energy will afford the US that opportunity.

  9. Eve Fisher 2020-01-08 15:28

“In 2018, the U.S. had its best single-year increase in energy production. American energy exports surged 64% from 2015 to 2018. For the first time since 1973, the U.S. was a net energy producer for two consecutive months, in September and October 2018.” This is from Senator Roy Blount, from the Republican Policy Committee.

Basically, Republicans always talk out of both sides of their mouth: the US is a net exporter of oil, and yet we must get the oil in Iraq and/or Iran; the US is energy independent, and yet we can’t quit buying imported oil. 19% in 2017 – and God forbid we should do something like cut back, conserve, use promote alternative green energies, etc. Instead, we must stay in the Middle East, and make sure the pipeline doesn’t dry up. Makes so much sense, doesn’t it?

O, that’s his story and he’s sticking to it. But, seriously, is that anyway for an alleged adult politician to conduct himself?

  11. cibvet 2020-01-08 17:28

Would using o’s defense of Gosar be the same as “trump doesn’t lie because he doesn’t say its a lie?’

  12. jerry 2020-01-08 17:42

Chubby lied, nothing new . Impeach him already so he doesn’t get Israel blown up.
Check out this Senator on how farfetched this whole fiasco really is. And worse of all, the departments that are supposed to be a buffer from this madman, are just as corrupted as Chubby is.

Then we have Dirty Johnson’s head up his arse approach. How embarrassing for our state to listen to his drivel.

  13. o 2020-01-08 18:12

mike, after I had read Gosar’s defense of never claiming what he posted was authentic, it reminds me of how hard President Trump works to NEVER testify under oath. Under oath one is legally obligated to tell the truth and there are consequences for not. That is why he has never been deposed. Outside a legal setting, is the President “obligated” to tell the truth?

  14. mike from iowa 2020-01-08 18:53

Expecting drumpf to act like an adult and presidential is too much of a burden on him, O. He is not mentally or emotionally fit to be even our bogus potus. I hope voters wake up and get to the polls in November and sweep out all wingnuts.

Two thirds of the world’s population see drumpf as a negative for trust. Unless you live in conservative countries or dictatorships. They approve of drumpf.

I read this morning where Iran contacted the Iraqi government some 5 hours before the missile attack and notified the Iraqis that it was coming. Whether or not the Iraqi’s notified the US forces seem to be unknown. Since all military personnel were in bunkers at the time of the missile strike, one could logically conclude that Iraq had advised our troops to take protective cover. Damage minimal. I’d be inclined to agree with Porter….. If the Iranians can precisely target a Saudi Oil Facility and put it out of commission for a few days; they can easily knock off a few aircraft and ground troops at an established base. We should fully understand by now that nothing that comes out of Trumps, Pompeo’s mouth is either honest or trustworthy. As my dad would say; “the potlickers would lie if the truth fit better.” And any partisan that soaks up and believes the twisted disingenuosity that comes out of their mouth is deceiving themselves and all of us that they tend to represent…………………however badly………….

Minnesota Public Radio wants to help us distinguish the lies and fakes so they’ve created a service. I didn’t see where you have to be a Minnesotan to use it. That means Dustmop could!

Iran notified the US and Iraq 3 hours before they shot the missiles into the ground. They did this to make sure there were no casualties and to show the Americans that they could hit whatever the hell they were aiming at. Long past time to go. Let’s move on to someplace where we can win one. Afghanistan, fail. Iraq, parts one and two, fail. Africa, big problems. I think maybe we should invade Greenland. Shock and awe them and call it a day. Or we could cut back 5 carrier groups, army bases around the world and use the money for our own infrastructure and our own education. Booyah!!

“More details have emerged about the early intelligence that helped ensure Tuesday’s Iranian missile strikes left no dead U.S. soldiers or damaged buildings at the Iraqi bases.

According to the New York Times, a three-hour early alert put the bases on high alert and sent military officials scrambling to plan responses — especially in case the strike hit any Americans.

The alert came as President Donald Trump was meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Vice President Mike Pence and White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien led the preliminary talks in the Situation Room.”

See, it’s all for show. Anything to keep the American people in the dark about the impeachment and the real tragedy of Puerto Rico’s plight as a colony of the empire.

Jerry’s last paragraph nails the reason for this outpouring of US treasure and risk to lives. Liar-in-Chief will do anything, risk anything to anyone Other than Himself for self protection.

  21. jerry 2020-01-09 14:31

Chubby and the bandits do give us some relief though, at least “Deep State” is no longer their meme. Now they can use the intelligence to further line their pockets with even more and bigger lies.

  22. leslie 2020-01-09 18:50

Another sideways glance goes to bloomberg: “Boeing shares rose on reports of an accidental missile strike or terrorist bomb, rather than mechanical mishap, may be responsible for the crash of Ukrainian jet near Tehran on Wednesday.” Wtf? Killing all passengers. Reminds me of a joni mitchell tune or two. Still think trump has any brains dusty?

Ohsarge, back for more abuse eh? My 8 year old grandchild has more sense than either you or your stupid president and his MIA republicans.

Iraq just booted us out of their country. No if’s or but’s about it. They said for us to pack our bags and get the hell out. Let’s hope that is not the chaotic running out of town we got in Vietnam. The assassinated Iranian generals last mission was indeed “Mission Accomplished” without a doubt.

“Iraq has asked the United States to begin the process of planning the withdrawal of its troops from the country, five days after the Iraqi Parliament voted to end the longstanding American military presence there in the wake of the U.S. killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi said in a statement Friday that he had asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a phone call “to send a delegation to Iraq to put a mechanism [in place] for implementing the Iraqi parliament decision to safely withdraw troops from Iraq.”” https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/iraq-asks-u-s-make-plans-withdraw-forces-n1113391?cid=ed_npd_bn_tw_bn

So now that we have all those troopers coming home with no further need for their services there, that means we should have at least trillion dollars to use for our infrastructure and education. Booyah!

    From Mike’s excellent link,

“Republicans really are dumping constitutional principles once dearly and closely held for the sake of power.”

    Yeah. They really are. 😥

    From the WSJ link….

That reporters and editors in Washington, D.C, find ways to avoid seeing the plain truth was brought to mind by this morning’s Wall Street Journal. In a piece about the president’s new national security team—how its “cohesion” resulted in Soleimani’s assassination—seven esteemed reporters committed one of journalism’s professional sins. They buried the lede. Nearly 30 paragraphs into a 2,200-word story, they said:

Mr. Trump, after the strike, told associates he was under pressure to deal with Gen. Soleimani from GOP senators he views as important supporters in his coming impeachment trial in the Senate, associates said (my italics).

Now, these are unnamed sources. They were speaking on background. In isolation, I wouldn’t make much of this. But in context, it matters—so much so, it warrants its own reporting, which we have not yet seen. That context would be the absence of legitimate non-political reasons for ordering Soleimani’s death. In all the reporting I’ve read, administration officials can’t keep their stories straight. On the one hand, that suggests no good reason. On the other, that suggests the most obvious one.

The buried lede suggests something else worth exploring. The president may not have been alone in seeking to please Republican senators who will sit in judgement of him during the impeachment trial. It may be that a Republican senator—Lindsey Graham comes to mind—encouraged the president to act on Soleimani. In that case, we would have to face yet another unbearable truth: some Republicans in the United States Senate are conspiring with the president in defrauding the people to maintain power.
