What’s a lieutenant governor for? In South Dakota, handing out candy to trick-or-treaters when the Governor is away from the Mansion:
Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden and Sandy Rhoden will host the annual trick-or-treat festivities at the Governor’s Residence in Pierre on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. CT.
“Sandy and I don’t usually get very many kids that stop by our ranch out at Union Center, so this will be all treat and no trick for us this year at the Governor’s Residence!” said Rhoden.
On Halloween, Governor Kristi Noem will be attending her son, Booker’s, play-off football game in Hamlin County. Booker is a senior in high school this year [Governor’s Office, press release, 2019.10.29].
Governor Noem says she hears the Rhodens’ costumes are “incredible!” What would be the most incredible costumes for our Lieutenant Governor to wear tonight?
10. A large paycheck for police (a truly imaginary creature in South Dakota)!
8. A real Republican with real moral principles!
7. Bill Napoli with a gag in his mouth!
6. The Marlboro Man!
4. A campaign contribution in a laundered white sheet (and wearing a broken contribution cap)!
3. A campaign finance report submitted on time!
2. A well-informed public official!
And the best possible costume…
1. The Governor!
Dress warmly, trick-or-treaters! Wear layers!
11. A genuine, non-SDGOP, state government corruption investigation!
12. an outside truly independent oversight panel with full subpoena powers and teeth. That would likely scare wingnuts to death.
Mind your manners. Mr. Rhoden can carve a knife with a pumpkin.
A gut punch.
