More Republican family values: the Trump USDA wants to kick half a million kids off free school lunches.
Congressman Bobby Scott of Virginia, Chairman of House Education and Labor, says that USDA chief Sonny Perdue’s staff told the committee last week that a rule change making it harder to get food stamps will also cause 500,000 children to lose their eligibility for school meal programs. Congressman Scott wrote to Perdue Friday to ask why USDA did not include that fact in its publication of the stingy new pro-hunger rule in the Federal Register:
Jeepers, Trumpists: if you want to make more kids go hungry, the least you could do is be open and honest about it. Just say it: we’re the richest, greatest, most food-stuffed country in the world, but we can’t afford to make sure every kid has a full tummy and can concentrate on learning.
trump continues to squeeze farmers and ranchers whose products these 500,000 children eat every day. Note to South Dakota farmers and ranchers, the vast majority of these children are white kids. You’re not punishing the children of color only, for the most part, these are white kids. Get a new plan and a new gump.
So there is some theoretical line that makes families too wealthy for school lunches but not an accompanying line that makes billionaires too wealthy for tax cuts? Again, the question really is who are the “welfare queens” or “freeloaders” in the Corporate States of America.
Does reducing the number of students on free and reduced lunches also reduce a schools Title funding? Does the Fed get to underfund two obligations with one stone here?
