Woman Leaves Child in Car for Two Hours: Felony Child Abuse! Trump Strands Border Kids in Vans for 39 Hours…

A Rapid City woman faces felony child abuse charges for leaving her child in her vehicle in the heat for two hours:

Brendyn Medina is the public information officer for the Rapid City Police Department. He says Officers responded to a call at 640 Floorman St Monday morning.

Medina says the child may have been in the car for more than two hours and was in a state of distress when the officer arrived.

He says the child was sweating profusely and the officer broke one of the truck’s windows and removed them.

After the child was removed they were immediately provided water and a medical unit was dispatched to take them to Rapid City Regional Hospital [David Scott, “Rapid City Woman Arrested After Leaving Child in Vehicle,” SDPB Radio, 2019.06.04].

Facing no felony child abuse charges yet is the Trump Administration, which left some children in vans in the Texas heat for 39 hours:

Under the blistering Texas sun last July, 37 migrant children boarded vans for what was supposed to be a 30-minute ride….

But when the children, all between 5 and 12 years old, arrived at Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s adults-only Port Isabel Detention Center, rather than seeing their parents, they saw a parking lot full of vans just like theirs, with children from other facilities who, just like them, were waiting to be processed and reunified with their parents.

It was 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018.

Not until 39 hours later — after two nights in a van — did the last child step out of a van to be reunited. Most spent at least 23 hours in the vehicles.

…”To now learn that children as young as five years old were left in vans for more than 24 hours is simply indefensible,” said [Rep. Greg] Walden [R-OR]. “I support enforcement of our nation’s borders, but … I strongly believe that children should not be separated from their parents. Period. And those separated should be cared for as if they were our own children until they are reunified with their parents. This is not who we are as Americans” [Jacob Soboroff and Julie Ainsley, “Botched Family Reunifications Left Migrant Children Waiting in Vans Overnight,” NBC News, 2019.06.03].

The Rapid City Police Department (via SDPB) says that “if anyone encounters a child or animal left inside a vehicle, and is concerned for their wellbeing, they should immediately notify the police who will send an officer to evaluate the situation and take steps to safeguard them.” Maybe we should send the Rapid City PD to protect kids from Trump’s border child abusers.

Leaving children in hot cars—that’s an impeachable offense, isn’t it?

This behavior must offend our SD sensitivities or we wouldn’t have a law forbidding this behavior, yes? So we will see our congressional delegation stand tall and rebuke this sort of behavior from the current administration, yes? No? Maybe? How about a photo op for John? Anyone? Buehler? Anyone????

Trump Administration just stopped teaching English classes for immigrant kids held in detention.
    * I guess that’s one way to produce more new Republicans. Keep ’em stupid.

It might be an impeachable offense but I doubt Dusty agrees, and as you know the House impeaches and the Senate conducts a removal trial. I also doubt Thune and Rounds consider it a serious enough offense to warrant removal if a trial were to come to pass. They have a very high tolerance for these sorts of things.

Why are all these kids coming here? Is there some sort of propaganda being spread in Central/South America? Or, perhaps is there violence being promulgated on the people down there by associates of the Deep State CIA drug trafficking (Air America)? It is a crisis on the Southern border that will continue to put pressure on The US system until it breaks. Luckily, we have someone in office who can sweep away this kind of propaganda, make the hard decisions for the children of the future who might have some possibility of a decent life in their home countries.

If you aren’t seeing this as weaponized propaganda, why not? It’s Trump’s fault? Isn’t that just a DC power play to say that? I mean, how do we solve this problem that doesn’t include personal attacks on our President, who did not create this problem?

With huge falsely construed incentives to come here, it won’t matter who is President.

Porter, it’s all about corruption “A team of researchers inside Pfizer made a startling find in 2015: The company’s blockbuster rheumatoid arthritis therapy Enbrel, a powerful anti-inflammatory drug, appeared to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 64 percent.

The results were from an analysis of hundreds of thousands of insurance claims. Verifying that the drug would actually have that effect in people would require a costly clinical trial — and after several years of internal discussion, Pfizer opted against further investigation and chose not to make the data public, the company confirmed.” Washington Post 06.05.2019

John Dales asks “Why are all these kids coming here?” It’s called Climate Change. Why aren’t crops being planted? Same answer. Why is there no market for ag products produced by American farmers? trump/republicans and Climate Change

    Porter, that’s hilarious! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

On the completely opposite side, what Wilted Weenie’s ICE is doing to those innocent children is horrific, inhumane and monstrous.

Remember folks, in 10-15 years, when our crime rate grows, the young people with severe anger and other mental health issues were deliberately created by Wilted Weenie, Stephen Goebbels Miller and the rest of the subhuman socio-, psychopaths in the current deministration and GOP/NRA/Chinless Wonder McTurtle/Pootie.

Drumpf is that blind squirrel that manages to find a kernel of nutmeats every now and then.

Some unthinking people really believe Drumpf knows or cares about what his so called policies are doing. He doesn’t. He just wants to promote himself and get rich off the government with the aiding and abetting of wingnut sychophants.

John Dale- how many of Drumpf’s businesses has he repatriated to America, like he demands of everyone else? Show us you actually know something about Drumpf and guess none.

John Dale asks “Why are all these kids coming here?”

They are coming here because they have been led to believe that the United States is a land that will provide freedom, safety, and economic opportunity, which are basic human needs that are apparently not being met in the countries that they left.

There was a time when most of us believed that the US actually tried to accomplish the goal of providing freedom, safety and economic opportunity to all. Perhaps John Dale is right in suggesting that the values of providing freedom, safety and economic opportunity to all in the US have become mere “propaganda.” What seems to be surprising, however, is that so many Trumpian conservatives seem to relish the belief that our Country will no longer even support the foundational value of providing freedom, safety and economic opportunity for all.

By the way, the link to the article about photos from 2014 being used in an article about our current incarceration and abuse of immigrant children and families does not assert that these practices don’t exist under the Trump adminstration, nor does the article deny that such horrid practices have actually increased in severity under the Trump administration. It seems to be the case that when the conduct of Trump conservatives leaders is so obviously reprehensible that it has become indefensible, the go to answer is to point to another person of adminstration from the past and claim that they engaged in bad behavior too, as if that somehow justifies the current Trump conservative abusive conditions for children and families seeking freedom, safety and economic opportunity.

David Newquist, can this be reasonably chalked up to unforgivable lack of Republican government oversight?

  12. David Newquist 2019-06-05 20:55

Mike from where I went to school,

This is the same state facility where Gina Score died in 1999. The story I linked is extensive and specific in the incidents of abuse it relates. Many of the children involved were removed from homes because of maltreatment. They were put in a place where the mistreatment is even worse. It’s not a matter of oversight. South Dakota is unfit to care for children and should be so declared.

Thanks for the explanation, Mr Newquist. And the link.

This extremely well-written Sojourners article makes crystal clear a Christian’s obligation to refugees. It’s a report on the trial of the NGO aid providers in Arizona. They are Christian folks who understand their calling to provide water, food and respite to anyone in need, regardless of politics.

Biblical support is clear, as is Christ’s directives to his followers. It’s not just for the GOP or Wilted Weenie and his deministration, but anyone who resents and wishes to punish the refugees for being refugees.
